Swapo’s Fredericks elected new Lüderitz mayor

Swapos’s Brigitte Fredericks was elected as the new mayor of Lüderitz on Friday.

Fredericks in her acceptance speech said: “It will no longer be business as usual”.

She said she is “fully committed to serving the people of Lüderitz.”

Fredericks, who previously served as the deputy mayor, added: “My plan is clearly indicated in the Swapo manifesto and the sixth National Development Plan.”

She said she will focus on housing, youth empowerment, job creation, as well as economic empowerment for the town and equal land beneficiation for all investors.

The new deputy mayor of the Lüderitz Town Council is Popular Democratic Movement’s (PDM’s) Gideon Kalenga, whereas Ockert Theron of Swapo was elected chairperson of the management committee.

Venom Mununga and Bessly Makaula will serve alongside Theron as members of the management committee while Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) councillors Junior Nehemia and Tutaleni Batromeus will serve as ordinary council members.

Swapo managed to score four seats on the council, PDM one and IPC two in the recent local authority elections.
