Swapo to splash out on new HQ: Wants N$149 m

THE ruling Swapo party has revealed plans to build a new head office worth N$149 million, with private companies are expected to foot part of the bill.Swapo president Sam Nujoma told a weekend Central Committee meeting that the party’s structures needed to prepare themselves for a massive fundraising campaign.

Nujoma said the idea of new headquarters emerged a “few years ago” from the politburo as the party geared to meet challenging demands and support the administrative machinery. “This is a mammoth task before all members of the Swapo party and it requires hard work, commitment and dedication,” Nujoma said.He said Swapo did not have the money to build the new head office and started a fundraising drive over the weekend.”The party will also try to source funds through contributions by members and companies as well as through donations from supporters and sympathisers,” he said.The Stocks and Stocks construction company built the current Swapo head office in Katutura around 10 years ago.”This is a mammoth task before all members of the Swapo party and it requires hard work, commitment and dedication,” Nujoma said.He said Swapo did not have the money to build the new head office and started a fundraising drive over the weekend.”The party will also try to source funds through contributions by members and companies as well as through donations from supporters and sympathisers,” he said.The Stocks and Stocks construction company built the current Swapo head office in Katutura around 10 years ago.
