Swapo deputy secretary general Uahekua Herunga has announced that the party this week registered Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as its presidential candidate.
She was registered with the Electoral Commission of Namibia.
Herunga announced this at a Swapo rally at Endola in the Ohangwena region on Saturday.
“She is officially registered at the ECN as our presidential candidate. Go out in huge numbers and vote Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and Swapo party so we can go beyond a two-third majority – as we normally do,” Herunga said.
Last month, a group of Swapo members led by Reinhold Shipwiikineni requested that the ECN not allow Nandi-Ndaitwah to be registered as Swapo’s presidential candidate for the upcoming elections.
The group claimed Nandi-Ndaitwah was not procedurally nominated as Swapo’s presidential candidate.
