Swapo celebrates 49th birthday

SWAPO celebrated its 49th birthday over the weekend with a gala dinner and a star rally which was preceded by a music show featuring the likes of The Dogg, Lady May, Jackson Kaujeua (senior) and Swart Baster.

On Saturday night the party hosted a gala dinner where the 2004 manifesto review was launched.
Yesterday, President Hifikepunye Pohamba said the review indicated that the Government had achieved most of the promises the party made.
‘In fact, the Swapo Party Government has broadened its development agenda and introduced additional programmes to accelerate the socio-economic development of our country,’ Pohamba told a huge crowd at the Katutura Youth Sport Complex.
He promised that Swapo will do even more for many Namibians to ‘enjoy the fruits of Independence’.
Pohamba also gave an extensive rundown of what Government has done over the past 20 years of Independence, highlighting the provision of services such as health, water and security.
‘The Swapo Party’s record speaks for itself with regard to our commitments to the country and the well-being of our nation,’ he said.
The rally, attended by governors, mayors, regional and local councillors of various regions and towns as well as the party’s functionaries from all over the country, was spiced up by various music performances.
In fact, in the crowd must also have come for the music as there was a huge applause when master of ceremonies Jerry Ekandjo announced after Pohamba’s speech that Lady May, The Dogg and Swart Baster would take the stage.
