SWAPO secretary general Sophia Shaningwa today announced the appointment of Austin Machana Samupwa as the party’s “executive director / permanent secretary”. In the position, Samupwa would be responsible for the party’s administration.
At the same occasion Shaningwa also announced the appointment of Tangeni Paulus Haindongo as “special adviser / deputy permanent secretary” in the office of the secretary general.
The appointments follow promises by Swapo president Hage Geingob to transform the party into an organisation that will be administered “with efficiency, professionalism and good governance”.
Geingob made the promises during his campaign rallies for the party’s presidency in the run-up to the Swapo elective congress of last November.
Shaningwa said the two were appointed on the strength of their academic qualifications and “vast experience in administration at both political and government level”.
“I have no doubt that the PS and his team will come up with positive changes, policies and administrative structures that speak to our mandate and membership at large,” she said.
