Swapo announces election candidates

Journalist and general manager of ‘Consumer News’ magazine Willem Gariseb are among Swapo’s candidates in the upcoming regional council and local authority elections.

Gariseb will contest for the Windhoek Rural constituency.

This is contained in the party’s candidate list for the Khomas region.

Former City of Windhoek mayor Fransina Kahungu garnered 52 votes to run as a candidate, while Uunona Sakaria got 62 votes, Albertina Amutenya 55, and Matheus Shoongo 59 votes.

Demetreo Beukes got 57 votes, Toini Ambambi 49, Austin Kwenani 56, former Windhoek mayor Queen Kamati 49, and Paulus Immanuel 56.

Angula Nambata got 47 votes, Inghamba Sam 55, Elizabeth Hofni 47, and Luis van der Merwe 52.

Meanwhile, Martha Iikela got 43 votes and Gabriel Tjàtindi slotted in with 49.

Political parties and independent candidates have until 16 October to submit their candidate nominations to the Electoral Commission of Namibia.

The list will be published by the commission on 5 November.

Several constituency councillors have retained their candidacy nominations as they will now contest for regional constituency positions.

This includes current Khomas region chairperson and John Pandeni constituency councillor John Moonde, Stefanus Ndengu for the Moses ||Garoeb constituency, Christoper Likuwa for the Tobias Hainyeko constituency, Emma Muteka for Windhoek West, and Richard Gaoseb for Katutura East.

Former Windhoek mayor Muesee Kazapua will contest for the Katutura Central constituency.

Samora Machel constituency’s hands have changed, as Lydia Kanime heads to the polls.

Wayne Sissing will contest for the Khomasdal constituency and Flip de Bruyn for the Windhoek East constituency.
