Swakop gang member sentenced for robbery

A MEMBER of a gang which robbed a tourist at Swakopmund last week has been sentenced to a fine of N$10 000 or three years in prison.

Michael Albino Ondunge (25) admitted guilt in court on Thursday, but claimed he only stole N$3 700 from the tourist. According to the Police’s crime report, the four suspects stole N$4 050 in cash from German tourist Barbera Monika Stahl when they pretended to assist her at an automatic teller machine (ATM).Four suspects were found with N$3 881 in cash shortly after their arrest.Ondunge was the only one who pleaded guilty at the first court appearance.The other three suspects appeared in court with Ondunge on Thursday.They were identified as Eduard Khaob (26), Samuel Shikale (21) and Petrus Doeseb (24).The other three suspects appeared in the Swakopmund court for a second time on Friday.Their case was postponed to April 12.The Police have an arrangement with the office of the Magistrate at Swakopmund to process cases involving tourists immediately to allow tourists to testify in court before they return to their home countries.According to the Police’s crime report, the four suspects stole N$4 050 in cash from German tourist Barbera Monika Stahl when they pretended to assist her at an automatic teller machine (ATM).
