Suspects arrested for farm murder

ALMOST three months after the death of 66-year-old Anna Jacoba Reed at a farm near Leonardville, Police in the Omaheke Region made their first arrests in this case on Sunday.

Two men, 34-year-old Hendrik Swartz and 28-year-old Adam Khuxab, were taken into custody by police at Gobabis, after crucial evidence linked them to the robbery and murder at the farm Arib on September 22. The men are set to make their first appearance in the Gobabis Magistrate’s Court today, both facing charges of murder and robbery.A spokesperson for the Police at Gobabis, Sergeant Michael Matengu, said yesterday that Police had dug up a moneybox as well as a bag of clothing reported stolen from Reed’s home.Matengu would not elaborate on where the items were dug up, or how the two suspects were implicated in their discovery, saying that this would all be revealed in court.Reed was murdered either on the night of September 21, a Thursday, or early the following morning, while she was alone in her home on the farm. Her family were informed of her death the next day by a housekeeper who had discovered her body at the back door to her home.Reed had reportedly been beaten in the face with an unknown object, and Police reported that she had died of strangulation. At the time of her death, the only items reported missing from Reed’s home were a pair of binoculars, a moneybox and a dress.
