Suspect arrested in Wanaheda murder

The police on Tuesday arrested a suspect in the alleged murder of a woman (39) at Wanaheda in the capital last week.

Fina Nghifikwa was shot and succumbed to her injuries last Tuesday.

She is believed to be the latest victim of a long-running scam syndicate that lures unsuspecting women under the pretext of viewing rental rooms.

National police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi on Tuesday said Nghifikwa was lured by the suspect under the pretext that he was selling a house.

He allegedly said it was necessary that they go to the area to view the house in question.

“It took a week-long intensive investigation and coordinated intelligence-led operations. So the officers of Nampol and City Police this morning managed to arrest the suspect, who has been or is a wanted suspect in various robbery and murder cases. He was found in the company of five others in the Lafrenz industrial area,” Shikwambi said.

She said the suspects were found in possession of firearms, knives, and balaclavas.

The police are conducting further investigations, Shikwambi said.

“We had people, community members, who were collaborating with the police as they were pursuing the suspects. And through their interrogation and questioning and looking for witnesses . . .

“We really salute those who continue to collaborate with the police by providing the necessary information, leading to the successful apprehension of the suspect,” she said.

Nghifikwa was the victim of a broader criminal operation that has been active for years, particularly at Wanaheda, Goreangab, and Otjomuise, Shikwambi said.
