Survey shows Walvis Bay hesitant over municipal police

ALTHOUGH a Municipal Police for Walvis Bay may seem like the most likely sidekick to the existing lawenforcement fraternity, the majority of respondents to the recent survey on the need for such a force, were in disagreement over the additional fee that would be added to municipal bills.

Considering this objection, the outcome of the survey may indicate disfavour for the establishment of a municipal police force, according to municipal sources. A good sample rate of all income groups at Walvis Bay, from all suburbs, was included in the survey although it has been made known that many of them did not favour the additional N$175 that such a force would cost them.During last week’s Walvis Bay Council meeting, Mayor Derek Klazen said that sufficient information has now been gathered on the viability and the affordability of a municipal police force, and the direction Council should take in this regard. He added that the final decision is expected to take place at the next ordinary meeting, and that this would be in line with public sentiments as demonstrated through the survey.A good sample rate of all income groups at Walvis Bay, from all suburbs, was included in the survey although it has been made known that many of them did not favour the additional N$175 that such a force would cost them.During last week’s Walvis Bay Council meeting, Mayor Derek Klazen said that sufficient information has now been gathered on the viability and the affordability of a municipal police force, and the direction Council should take in this regard. He added that the final decision is expected to take place at the next ordinary meeting, and that this would be in line with public sentiments as demonstrated through the survey.
