NIGERIA’s’ Super Falcons beat the Brave Gladiators 2-0 on Saturday to complete a 10-0 London 2012 Olympics qualifier aggregate win.
Despite the defeat, the Gladiators kept pace with the physically and technically superior Nigerian girls, who in truth never looked troubled for the entire match. Orti Ebere scored the fist goal of the match, following poor defending from the home side in the box after 20 minutes. The job was complete before the break when the Flacons where awarded a spot kick after Brave Gladiators defender Rejoice Kasaona deliberately handled in her penalty area. Mbachu Stella Chinyere stepped up to coolly slot the ball past Namibian goalkeeper Sussana Eises. Namibia rarely threatened, and a speculative shot wide of the Nigerian goal by pint-sized striker Juliana Skrywer is the best they managed in the first half. Although Nigeria looked unnerved by the slippery rain-induced conditions in the second half, in the end they managed to see out the victory. sheefeni@namibian.com.na
