Stuck In First Gear

I AM disappointed by The Namibian’s Top Revs, allegedly a motoring supplement, but seeming to consist of feeble advertorial, puffs for various models, drawn from press releases from the manufacturers or distributors concerned, mostly in South Africa, There is no local content, or no critical reviews, or local test drives to provide insight on how suitable various cars may be for local conditions.

Surely it would not be too expensive to arrange for a local knowledgeable driver to do these? Or are you afraid of the advertisers? For example, there has been an adulatory reception for a car model known as the Toyota Avensis. Whereas the BBC programme said of this car: “You know the ad where they are all looking at the Avensis, and they all fall silent? That must be because there is nothing to say about this car.Absolutely nothing at all.If pushed, you might say that the radiator is ugly, but that’s about it…!” Bill Torbitt WindhoekWhereas the BBC programme said of this car: “You know the ad where they are all looking at the Avensis, and they all fall silent?
