DURING the recent Assembly of the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) held in Mozambique end last month, Namibia’s Reverend Phillip Strydom was elected as President-elect of the UCCSA.
The UCCSA is a church in five countries with Synods in Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe. At the same Assembly, the Reverend Basil Manning was inducted to lead the UCCSA as President until 2013. Strydom is a former Chairperson of the Namibia Synod, President of the Council of Churches in Namibia (CCN) and also served as General Secretary of the CCN. He will assume the Presidency of the UCCSA in 2013, following in the footsteps of three other Namibians, namely Peter Lamoela, Steve Titus and André September, who formerly served the Church in Southern Africa as President.
