WINDHOEK – The Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) has named a street after the late Janine and Suzelle Davin, who died in a gruesome head-on collision near Swakopmund in December 2006.
The street leads into the National Tennis Stadium in Olympia and will be known as the Janine and Suzelle Davin Lane. The street name was unveiled on Saturday before the NTA’s annual prize-giving function, at which Suzelle was also honoured as the Best Junior Woman for 2006.The Davin sisters were well known for their sporting achievements in South Africa and Namibia, with both excelling in tennis and hockey.Their deaths sent shock waves through the tennis and hockey communities and their memorial service was attended by hundreds of people.Their former coach, Elizma Nortjé, yesterday said the renaming of the street after the Davin sisters is a positive sign and would serve as an inspiration to junior tennis players. She said the two sisters contributed immensely to the development of tennis and that they represented the country at the Federation Cup in the past.Nortje coached the two sisters from the age of seven.NampaThe street name was unveiled on Saturday before the NTA’s annual prize-giving function, at which Suzelle was also honoured as the Best Junior Woman for 2006.The Davin sisters were well known for their sporting achievements in South Africa and Namibia, with both excelling in tennis and hockey.Their deaths sent shock waves through the tennis and hockey communities and their memorial service was attended by hundreds of people.Their former coach, Elizma Nortjé, yesterday said the renaming of the street after the Davin sisters is a positive sign and would serve as an inspiration to junior tennis players. She said the two sisters contributed immensely to the development of tennis and that they represented the country at the Federation Cup in the past.Nortje coached the two sisters from the age of seven.Nampa
