Stock theft suspect nabbed

A MAN wanted in connection with alleged stock theft to the value of close to N$250 000 is behind bars.

John Thitjoro Mwambu (27) is alleged to have been involved in the theft of 42 cattle, 12 sheep, 10 goats and two horses.The alleged theft took place at farm Goeie Hoop in the Gobabis area earlier this month.According to the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Herman van Wyk, Mwambu worked at the farm, but packed up and fled as soon as his former employer informed him that the animals were missing.The Police arrested the alleged stock thief at Otjiwarongo late on Thursday. It is understood that he was traced with the help of a former colleague.Van Wyk said this other man has not been identified as a suspect yet.The investigation has been expanded to search for the mastermind behind the theft, as the Police suspect Mwambu could not have orchestrated it alone.Mwambu is expected to appear in the Gobabis Magistrate’s Court today.
