LOCAL Sports Consultant Quinton Steele-Botes will be the Chef de Mission of the Namibian team participating in next year’s Commonwealth Youth Games.
The Commonwealth Youth Games will be held on the Isle of Man from September 7 to 13.
Making the announcement on Tuesday, NNOC Secretary-General Abner Xoagub called on national sports federations affiliated to the NNOC, to submit the names of athletes in time and not at the eleventh hour.Xoagub said the bulk of the national team for the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games will come from the athletes who will represent Namibia at the forthcoming Zone Six Under-20 Championships, scheduled for Mbabane, Swaziland from December 7 to 22.The new Chef de Mission, Steele-Botes, will be leading a three-member management committee, which includes Dawie Augustyn and Jesse Schickerling – all members of the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) Board.The committee has about six months to make sure that all logistics are in place and sports federations affiliated to the NNOC are informed accordingly.The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency, located in the Irish Sea between the Islands of Great Britain and Ireland, within the British Isles. – Nampa
