The bank”;s chief executive, Mercia Geises said that this partnership cements Standard Banks”;s commitment to the company”;s purpose which is, “Namibia is our home, we drive her growth.”
The hope is that this partnership will allow the sport to evolve and give the players a platform to fully immerse themselves in the sport and develop their talents.
She stressed the importance of using leadership platforms and resources strategically to impact the community, especially children and contribute towards them being able to achieve their dreams.
“You can have all the money in the world, but if you don”;t have proper leadership to maximise the potential of what money can buy, it is worth nothing,” she said.
“Physical activity has numerous holistic benefits for people that tend to be underestimated. For a child to be active fosters purpose, which encourages them to use their free time productively, and also discipline, that can spill over into other avenues of their lives such as academics. Physical activity also improves brain function and has a positive impact on mental health,” she added.
National co-ordinator of the Namibia School Sport Union, Solly Duiker expressed his gratitude towards Standard Bank for the sponsorship, stating that the contribution will go towards supporting the Super League Rugby, while making sure that all players can afford to take part.
He added that they want to infiltrate all the regions of Namibia to identify and develop talent across the country.
Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero in her keynote address stressed the importance of reporting on activities done when receiving funds of this nature, and to be transparent in order to build trust, and relationships that can last many years.
She also expressed the importance of being mentally fit and the need for sport phycologists who can train sportsmen and women the skills needed to be mentally fit within their industry. This further underlines how big and versatile the sport industry has become and how many different jobs can come from this industry if governed correctly.
The chairperson of NSSR, Ainsley Daniels said that the Standard Bank Rugby Super League will kick off this coming weekend and will continue with league matches until the end of September when the finals will be held.
