Standard Bank has new manager for market research

MALLY Likukela has joined Standard Bank Namibia as Manager of Economic and Market Research.

In his new role Likukela is responsible for conducting economic and market research relevant to the Namibian economic and business environment, with particular emphasis on the banking sector.

His role also includes developing the research agenda aimed at understanding trends in business activities, which include developments in different economic sectors, capital flows in Namibia and economic development initiatives.

Likukela previously worked as an economist within the Research Department at the Bank of Namibia for nearly eight years.

During that time he was tasked with administering the money and banking survey, a tool used to collect monetary and financial statistics from all commercial banks and other deposit-taking corporations.

He also worked in the policy research and analysis division, where he was responsible for, amongst other things, providing administrative and secretarial functions to the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) and conducting focused research projects.

Shortly before joining Standard Bank Namibia, he worked as a policy adviser at Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (Namfisa) for nearly a year in the research policy and statistics department.

Likukela holds a number of academic qualifications from the University of Namibia, namely a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Research Methodology as well as Development and Planning Economics in 2001. In 2007, he graduated with a master’s degree in Economics majoring in Monetary and Financial Economics. In addition, Likukela holds several professional qualifications in monetary policy and financial sector issues from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
