AC Boxing Academy’s Flame ‘Special One’ Nangolo is one fight away from becoming eligible for a world title shot.
The boxer will headline AC Promotions’ May Day Boxing Night, where he will defend his World Boxing Organisation Africa super featherweight title against Zimbabwe’s Tinashe Mwadziwane at the Roman Catholic Hall in Windhoek on 2 May.
Nangolo heads into the bout unbeaten after 14 professional fights, while his opponent has a record of nine wins and one loss.
Speaking at a press conference in Windhoek yesterday, AC Boxing Promotions founder Imms Moses said they have been preparing Nangolo for a potential world title opportunity by sparring him with American fighters.
“Boxing is an expensive exercise, but we have been doing this with the support of our sponsors, and we can see that we are doing something right for the country,” said Moses.
“The public can expect quality fights on the night. Special One is very close to breaking into the top 15, and this fight is important for his progression towards a world title opportunity,” he said.
At the press conference, it was also revealed that AC Boxing Academy has entered into agreements with national broadcaster Namibian Broadcasting Corporation, while the David Namwandi Trust is also on board.
Speaking on behalf of the David Namwandi Trust, Gerry Munyama highlights the broader impact of sport.
“Sport is not merely competition; it is a powerful vehicle for transformation. Boxing, in particular, embodies discipline, resilience, respect and courage – qualities not only of great athletes, but of great citizens,” he says.
“Our support for this event is rooted in our commitment to youth development. Platforms like this provide purpose, structure and opportunity for young people, while also allowing talent to be recognised and celebrated on a national stage.”
The undercard for the night features several bouts.
Divas Namugongo will take on Iipinge Paulus in a four-round lightweight contest. Robert Ndalelwa will face Abraham Petrus in a four-round junior welterweight fight.
Paulus Amavila will trade blows against Fillipus Amwaama in a six-round junior middleweight bout.
Hafeni Ngesheya will lock horns with Reinhold Matheus in a four-round lightweight clash while Ruaan Rasper is scheduled for a showdown against compatriot Salom Petrus in an eight-round national junior welterweight title eliminator.
