SPCA Launches Urgent Appeal

AS most people know, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a non-profit animal charity solely dependent on the goodwill of the public at large and the corporate sector.

The Windhoek SPCA not only cares for the well-being of more than 140 dogs and over 90 cats at any given time, but also offers other animal-related services to the general public, in their ongoing efforts to make life a bit easier for the animal population. With the population and the crime rate in Windhoek on the rise, cruelty towards animals is escalating. To fight this trend, the Windhoek SPCA uses two vehicles to assist animals wherever needed, even outside the Windhoek area. This happened in the case of ‘Reha’ (pictured), who was involved in a hit and run accident at Rehoboth, in January 2007.She was simply left to die at the side of the road, and if a Good Samaritan had not contacted the Windhoek SPCA, who then drove to collect her, and offered her emergency care, she would most certainly have died. Our request to the public: recently the Windhoek SPCA Bakkie broke down, and is apparently irreparable, so to continue their work, their vehicle needs to be replaced.Being a non-profit organisation keeping costs low is of utmost importance. The Windhoek SPCA has N$50 000 available to purchase a second hand Bakkie or preferably a Kombi, with low mileage. So, if you have such a vehicle, or are willing to assist in any way possible, please urgently contact the Windhoek SPCA at 061-238654 or 0811244520 or e-mail spcawhk@mweb.com.na ‘Please help us to help those who cannot ask for themselves.’With the population and the crime rate in Windhoek on the rise, cruelty towards animals is escalating. So, if you have such a vehicle, or are willing to assist in any way possible, please urgently contact the Windhoek SPCA at 061-238654 or 0811244520 or e-mail spcawhk@mweb.com.na ‘Please help us to help those who cannot ask for themselves.’
