South African Police hunting for ‘pink’ robbers

SOUTH African Police are hunting for two men who were dyed pink after an attempted cash heist in Port Elizabeth yesterday.

‘We are looking for the suspects who were colour-stained pink when the security device in a cash box activated,’ said Eastern Cape police spokeswoman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg. The men allegedly overpowered a Group Four security guard as he collected money from a fast food outlet at around 8am.The men disarmed the security guard and took two cash boxes from him. As they fled the scene, the driver of the Group Four security vehicle observed what was happening and attempted to run over one of the men.One of the men then dropped the cash box he was holding and continued to flee. The other man got away with a cash box. He got into a Nissan Sentra and fled the scene. The car was stolen at a shopping centre on Sunday, and was later discovered around the corner from the heist, with pink smoke streaming out the windows.’The car was still idling, we could see the powder through the windows. The safety device exploded leaving everyone inside the vehicle and the vehicle itself dyed pink, even the roof outside the vehicle had a pink tinge to it,’ Janse van Rensburg said. The alleged robbers had fled the scene with the box containing only slips.-Nampa-Sapa
