Sophy The Ambassador to launch third gospel album

Sofia Kaponde

Gospel musician Sofia Kaponde, popularly known as Sophy The Ambassador, is set to launch her third studio album, ‘Twalandulamo’, at EMC Church at Walvis Bay on Saturday.

Born and raised at Amunganda at Ombata village, Sophy says her musical journey began in Sunday school already.

“I started singing when I was a child. From Sunday school, I joined the worship team, and that is where my love for gospel music began,” she says.

She says her first album, ‘Ndimulandule’, was the start of her recording career. Since then, she has released two albums and four music videos.

‘Twalandulamo’ means ‘we are next’ and has a strong spiritual message, she says.

“As Christians, we do what Jesus tells us to do. If Jesus tells us to come, we come. If Jesus tells us to keep quiet, we keep quiet. Jesus is spirit, so whatever the spirit tells us to do, we must do,” she says.

Some of the best tracks on the album are ‘Twalandulamo’, ‘Omivelo’ and ‘Ombili Ondina’, Sophy says.

She has collaborated with Sister Saima on the album, she says.

Sophy says it is only natural that the album launch would take place at Walvis Bay.

“I am actually based at Walvis Bay, so it is easier for me to arrange the launch here,” she says.

She says her music changes with the seasons.

“I sing depending on the condition or time. I sing songs depending on what people are going through. There is no big gap between my previous albums and this new one – all of them are powerful.

“That is why the previous album is still trending, and people are already loving this new one,” she says.

The entrance fee for the launch is N$50 for adults and N$10 for children, with the event scheduled to start at 18h00.
