Solution floated for Aus water problems

KEETMANSHOOP – The Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) is expected to upgrade the water supply system for the southern settlement of Aus at a cost of about N$ 3 million this year.

The funds will be spent on the drilling of an additional borehole and the electrification of the existing manual system. Luderitz constituency Councillor Fluksman Samuehl told Nampa yesterday that serious efforts were also under way to solve Aus’s water supply problem permanently. The settlement is currently served by eight boreholes but does not have enough underground water to meet demand.Water at Aus is rationed at certain hours of the day to ensure a sustainable usage of water.Residential areas in high-lying areas are especially hard-hit with some households unable to source water from water points for up to six weeks. The Councillor noted that according to a report by the NamWater Regional Manager of the Hardap and Karas Regions, and given future development possibilities at the settlement of about 2 000 residents, water would have to be sourced from the Koichab Pan which supplies Luderitz with water. This would cost about N$13 million.”We are trying everything possible to solve the water supply problems at Aus and are very happy with the patience that the residents of Aus showed so far despite the very trying times they had to go through,” Samuehl noted.Aus is some 200 kilometres southwest of Keetmanshoop.- NampaLuderitz constituency Councillor Fluksman Samuehl told Nampa yesterday that serious efforts were also under way to solve Aus’s water supply problem permanently. This would cost about N$13 million.”We are trying everything possible to solve the water supply problems at Aus and are very happy with the patience that the residents of Aus showed so far despite the very trying times they had to go through,” Samuehl noted.Aus is some 200 kilometres southwest of Keetmanshoop.- Nampa
