Soli Deo Gloria move to next round in Joyful Sounds Choir competition

SOLI Deo Gloria Choir on Sunday emerged victorious and moved one step closer to winning the Joyful Sounds Choir competition.

The harmonious group knocked out their competitors, Christian Assembly and The Salvation Choir, in the second round of the knock-out stage of the competition. Soli Deo Gloria got on stage after a spirited performance by Vocal 4 and refused to hold back on entertaining the crowd with their powerful harmonious vocals.

“Their powerful choir and accompanying, grooving band took centre stage and never let go. It was evident from the word go that this choir not only has a history the choir was formed back in 1987 but is also firmly rooted within their community,” Kali Kasinda, one of the event organisers said. The choir conductor, Likius Kamapoha, introduced the renditions with pride, some composed by his peers and one composed by himself.

“The music was well rehearsed, with subtle choreography and spirited solo vocals,” Kasinda added.

The crowd was also entertained by local stand-up comedian Noel, while the judges comprising of Sharon van Rooi, William Peterson and Dennis Eiseb deliberated on who would go through to the next round. The Salvation Choir took third place while Christian Assembly came second.

Although they did not make it through to the next round, they still stand a chance to get back into the race by being called as a wildcard.

Kamapoha said he was very impressed with the initiative and organisation of the competition. “Being part of the competition and making it to the next round is very exciting. The choir is ready and prepared.”

The next round will see Okahandja Youth Choir, a youth organisation turned choir; Bik Ks, a choir which has been active for over 22 years; Mission Work Youth Choir; and the PPC Choir battle it out this Sunday, 12 October at the NTN at 19h00.

Tickets cost N$60 and are available from Computicket.
