Soldier stabbed to death

A NAMIBIAN Defence Force member was stabbed in the neck and died on the spot at Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi region on Monday evening.

The incident happened at the deceased soldier’s bar in Choto compound. He was identified as Mbuti Shidute (29), and his next of kin have been informed. Shidute was stationed at the Greenwell Matongo barracks, about 20 kilometres outside Katima Mulilo. Zambezi regional police spokesperson inspector Kisco Sitali confirmed the incident to The Namibian yesterday, saying it happened around 21h00 after a fight broke out between the deceased and the 27-year-old suspect over money issues. A murder case was opened at the Katima Mulilo Police Station under C/R 35/11/2019. “It is alleged that they were quarrelling because of some money the deceased owed the suspect, and that led to a physical fight. It is still not clear how much the deceased owed the suspect. “The suspect, a Namibian, was arrested, and is in police custody. The weapon used to stab Shidute was confiscated,” Sitali added. The suspect is expected to appear in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court today.
