Soldier charged for fake photos

LONDON – A part-time British soldier faces a court martial next week in connection with fake pictures published in the Daily Mirror newspaper supposedly showing UK troops abusing Iraqi prisoners, the ministry of defence said yesterday.

They were published just days after similar images appeared in the United States showing US soldiers abusing prisoners at Baghdad’s Abu Ghraib jail, photos which inflamed the Arab world.
