* WHY should young people vote? All we hear from our politicians is how bad the other politician is. The opposition should start winning votes by acting now without bad-mouthing Swapo. They should organise themselves and create development projects in the communities. Some of us vote for action and not for what is being promised. Swapo has to stop calling non-Swapo members puppets, traitors and enemies. We are all Namibians and have the right to belong to any political party of our choice. The war ended 19 years ago. We should live in the present and build the future, not getting stuck in the ‘liberation’ speeches.

Food For ThoughtMagnificent Fish River Canyon* TOURISM generated N$10,9 billion for Namibia in 2007 and it employs 77 000 people. But I’m sure that the tourists would reconsider coming to Namibia if they know that the MD of NWR gets paid N$140 000 a month since they would like to see their contribution empower the poor and go in line with Vision 2030. Not widen the already huge gap between the rich and the poor. Wake up Namibia, when will we stand up for what is right. – Manfred HamannPolitics* THESE politicians are our parents. We respect them a great deal. They can be criticised but not insulted.* I’M applying to our Founding President to humbly retire from politics as his speeches are accompanied by lots of destructive motives. We are running our own race, please Founding President take a retirement package and rest while there is time. Playing games with your grandchildren will only earn you harm, disrespect. God corrects those he loves. Your time has passed thus receive that with joy, open hands and arms, smile.- Concerned granddaughter* REF to ‘Founding Father talks war again’ article in the paper on September 21. I’m disturbed by statement. Have we not put the war behind us? Has he not retired? The article can cause unnecessary hatred!- MV* I’M very disappointed by the message which was given by Former President (Nujoma) at Ongwediva. Please advisers for the Old Man do your homework. It’s very bad to hear we must beat them up with hammers in our peaceful country. We don’t want war anymore please. Regards.- Okongo* THE white citizens, investors, donors, friends, visitors and tourists must be living in fear for their lives. As always his habit, at a Swapo Party rally at Ongwediva on Saturday, Former President Sam Nujoma has declared ‘whites, imperialists, British, an Englishman’ as ‘poisonous like a Mamba’ and ‘let us beat them with hammers in their heads’. The so-called Father of the Nation should behave, please. We are running out of patience with the Hitler-Mobutu-Mugabe-like hatred of humankind. Namibians, especially the ever-chanting Swapo Party members, should know that hallucination is sickness and they should have shame for cheering a confused old man.* OUR Namibian people, when will we unite to improve many things that need to be improved rather than continually forming many political parties. People stand up united, like the United Nations, from there we fight poverty, crime and unemployment. My Namibians you are still challenging the freedom you were given by Dr Nujoma. Let’s stop this selfishness. Sometimes the Father of the Nation gets sad because of our blindness.* WE thought that the Ombudsman is non-partial. He defended Nujoma’s hate speech. Looking for re-appointment.* I TRIED to compare Nujoma with (former SA president Nelson) Mandela and almost irrevocably tarnished the great Madiba’s image* NAMIBIAN nation, if we treat the whites like the Founding Father says we should, we will turn into another Zimbabwe. * OUR Father of the Nation, we want you to talk about unemployment, education, and corruption. We see corrupt leaders being promoted.* MR Nujoma’s hate speech and the cowardly failure by Swapo or the Government to do anything about it – after all the almighty ‘Father’ of the nation is committing a crime under the laws of Namibia – shows that there is no hope for this country being a multi-ethnic, tolerant society. I am preparing my children for emigration.* FOUNDING Father talks war again. He definitely needs leadership classes from a true leader like Nelson Mandela.* FATHER of the Nation sorry, sorry but you make me walk with shame. If you cannot fight with knowledge then I, as a young Namibian, am very proud to fight with wisdom rather than hammers. How many jobs did you create? Not voluntary jobs, lifelong ones. – Shingunguma.com* I AM not one for many words but seriously, is the Founding Father serious? What is that hate talk all about? No wonder we are breeding violent youth!* IN the late Seventies (Chief Clemens) Kapuuo says the whites must stay, Swapo says they will go to Kakamas. He is a puppet. We believe that. Now we must beat up the Englishmen! No, the game is over, Swapo, rest in peace, we are not going to believe you again.* I AM totally disappointed in Sam Nujoma for what he said in The Namibian newspaper of September 21 (‘Founding Father talks war again’). How could he say that about other people just because of their colour? Instead of uniting the nation he is dividing it, in his position.* THIS time Sam Nujoma has really gone too far with his hate speech! Inciting people to murder Englishmen and other whites with hammers is the ultimate in depravity, as well as it is a serious crime! It looks like he is intent on flushing this country down the toilet, just as mad Bob did. When potential tourists hear such threats, they will just go somewhere else! So will investors and donors. This vile speech may yet cost Namibia dearly. * CAN someone please tell Sam Nujoma how much aid Namibia receives from the so-called imperialist countries?- Teacher in Windhoek * WHY did Uncle Sam not mention the Chinese and their flagrant human rights violations? * MR Nujoma before you blame the imperialists, did you think about who made the cars we’re driven in? Doubt if it’s the communists that we adore unconditionally.* SINCE when is Mr Nujoma a Zim citizen or spokesperson? If the whites are exploiting our resources, who is giving them the licences if it is not the Swapo Government. Please Sir, don’t try to mislead the nation. When Namibia gets money from the whites they are investors. When do they become imperialists?- Eddyx * WOULD Canada give me asylum because the former Namibian President is inciting fellow Namibians to kill me with a hammer? * MR Nujoma, please don’t open your mouth. Retire gracefully and look at setting your own house in order before trying to justify chaos in Zim.* SANCTIONS aren’t to blame in Zim, corruption of democracy is. Namibians, protect your Constitution and your right to fair, safe elections.- A British imperialist in Windhoek * FOUNDING Father talks war again. Hi Namibians. Does the Founding Father as a leader encourage the youth as the leaders of tomorrow to beat the Englishman? What about the law?* I AM a very young Namibian that has been admiring our former president, but what I read in his speech he gave, in the newspaper, leaves me speechless!* PLEASE! Anyone finds an Englishman, do so, beat him up, Nujoma said. What does he mean by that? He must stop using bad words.- Beattah Erasmus* IF a white said about blacks what Sam Nujoma said about the whites, he would be locked up for racism. But it’s against whites so it’s fine! Is that the world we live in now! Is it really colour or do we just hate each other? What a great country to raise kids in! Treat people the way you want to be treated!* HOW can Sam Nujoma be allowed to get away with saying those things! He is promoting racism, a hate of whites! Besides that he is chasing away foreign investors! We, all of us, no matter what our colour, need to work together to make a better country! To make a better world! * SORRY, instead of beating up of Englishmen with hammers, please why can’t they beat up first all the thieves and botsotsos in Namibia? I am disappointed if this message is true.- Katamile* AS a Namibian citizen I feel deeply ashamed of our Founding Father. He is embarrassing us more and more. Comrades, please don’t give him the mike again. Namibia does not want to become a sad joke like Zimbabwe on the international scene. * MR ex-president, people want to hear how the Swapo Government will minimise corruption. We have heard a lot of times about the cruelty of the whites in your speeches. Leave the past behind focus on the present.* EX-president please leave the whites alone. We have been independent for 19 years now. The whites are long gone and invested in the infrastructure and well-being of the people. Why not use your six-page prepared speech instead of violent speeches? I don’t deny being beaten by those white policemen back then in the eighties, but today I’m a disciplined man with principles. Rather focus on all the millions that are going missing from the state coffers, so that we can have better education and healthcare. Let’s fight corrupt politicians rather than the whites that have been lending and sponsoring this country money.- Wayne Benjamin* IT’S worrying to hear people who are supposed to promote unity and reconciliation in the country promoting hatred and racism. I’m referring to the comments of former President Nujoma in The Namibian of September 21, when he was quoted for calling on anyone who finds an Englishman to beat them. It’s puzzling how a honourable man such as the founding father can think that he has the right to promote hatred and violence while the normal public person gets prosecuted for racist remarks in public. It’s time that president Nujoma becomes responsible and walk his talk. Whites are also Namibians, so unless we realise that, then we can never see Namibia independent from its history.* HOW will we ever obtain peace and reconciliation if prominent politicians like Nujoma keep on giving anti-white hate speeches? It is sad to see that they are playing the boring and foolish racist card in rural areas. It is cheap and does not have us fooled. We have moved on, ex-president, why don’t you.* WHEN I read your report on Nujoma’s utterances on Saturday, I seriously question his intentions … Can this nation afford to follow the route of Zimbabwe? Please Swapo or President Pohamba tell us!* FOUNDING FATHER, let’s call on all Namibians to fight corruption and theft of our scare resources, instead of declaring war on other states. Millions of dollars disappear from State coffers and you, as the Founding Father of the Nation, choose to remain silent about it all.* SAM Nujoma, this nation bestowed a title of respect and privileges on you. Judging your present statements, do you believe you are entitled to that respect?* PERHAPS the Founding Father should study a bit of English history. We don’t normally stand around when people attack us, ask Argentina! Having met Mr Pohamba years ago, I found him a truly intelligent gentleman. Long may he be in power.* SAM Nujoma’s cries for war on the British are simply stupid. He is a racist, arrogant. Looks like our old leaders are cursed, first Mugabe now Nujoma.- The Dream!* WE Namibians must just remember one thing if we want to get of Dr Nujoma’s hate speech then we must vote Swapo out of power. There is no other way of ending this embarrassment to the Namibian nation.* IT is completely nauseating to constantly hear the ranting and incitements to violence by former President Nujoma. Calling on the public to ‘beat up’ English people is dangerous to the extreme. Mr Nujoma is becoming an embarrassment and a danger to society. During the long years of the struggle Mr Nujoma never fired one shot in anger. I believe Mr (Hifikepunye) Pohamba should repudiate Mr Nujoma’s hate speeches which do irreparable damage to the reputation of our country. Thank God we limit terms.- We have received a huge number of messages concerning President Sam Nujoma’s address at the weekend rally in the North. A selection of these is included here. Unfortunately the sentiments expressed in some of the supporting messages are not suitable for publication. – NewsdeskTrade Minister Hage Geingob* CAN Dr Hage Geingob not speak his own language at meetings, while he is addressing the majority of Damara-speaking people in Khorixas? Politics In General* WHY is it that the Americans always get their way and not other nations? They send top officials to other countries where their citizens are imprisoned and negotiate for their release and are getting their way. So the same must be done to the five Cuban nationals who are imprisoned in America.- Melvin MM, KatimaNWR Affair* DEAR Mr Tobie Aupindi, I, a Namibian taxpayer and thus your employer, allege that you are guilty of gross mismanagement and demand a truthful written explanation if you deem yourself not guilty, or the integrity to resign forthwith if you are. Best regards.- Arthur Goetz* I DON’T get it! How is it possible that Swapo-linked companies get to be stakeholders of State assets as in the case of NWR? Does that mean that one day when they are voted out of power they will still be owners of State assets? * JOHN Grobler aka Jonathan Cobra should publish the salaries of all ministers, permanent secretaries, secretary to Cabinet, CEOs and MDs of all companies in private and public sectors. To single out Tobie is [allegedly] a clear vendetta Cobra has against him personally and defeats the entire objective of transparency and accountability.- SPYL Member- Appreciate your take on the issue. As I see it, Tobie’s salary ended up on the frontburner because of the controversy surrounding NWR. – News EditorBouquets And Brickbats* A BIG thank you to the TIGERS FC team management, coach and players who are making us proud of their performance so far. Keep it up.- Natangwe Ileka, Donkerhoek* BRAVO to ECN for … finally placing info regarding Supplementary Registration of Voters in The Namibian newspaper. If ECN continues to be remote controlled by Swapo, ECN will lose credibility to conduct free and fair elections. That act damaged the ECN and Swapo. Bravo! In And From the Regions* I AM very concerned about employment here in the South, Keetmanshoop. Vacancies are always advertised at different ministries, but it’s always people from other towns who get the jobs. What about us the residents of the South? When will we get that job? There is no development in the South. Education* UNAM SRC! It’s time you find a solution to this nonsensical situation, where students have to queue up for more than 30 minutes to hand over their bags at the parcel counter before they are allowed to get into the library. That’s time wasting.- Concerned students
