* I AM urging Namibian political parties to have debates on various issues pertaining to developments in the land of the brave. We have now moved out of the propaganda world to tangible developments.
– Levi
Food for Thought* MS Iivula-Ithana, The Namibian’s editor is not crushing Namibia’s image internationally. You are doing a fine job of that all by yourself with your senseless utterances!Bouquets and Brickbats* I LIKE what I see of Pick ‘n Pay Swakopmund’s revamping. In one breath, Henry Feris we know that Swakop is near to your heart. Good luck and good fortune for your company and for the whole Namibian nation. – DCS* I THINK the losses of the GIPF, reported yesterday, say a lot for the skills Mr Ruppel and his team. In fact they should be up for medals, not criticised by politicians who allow the waste and theft of millions and let state properties fall into disrepair. * I HAVE always enjoyed reading the political editorials in The Namibian and feel that their call for democracy in Namibia is needed. The editorials in the October 16 edition are particularly good. Can these be translated into local languages and possibly broadcast over the radio to reach people who are unable to read English? * I WOULD love to applaud Mrs Isaks, a teacher at Concordia College. After all these 12 years of my life in school, I have never met a teacher who would do whatever is in their power to make a learner understand like you did. You are such an angel teacher. The world needs people like you. Keep it up. God will bless you and your career for that. – Tangi * PLEASE let’s just send positive and messages that are encouraging. GOOD grief, my mother taught me to wash my hands with soap and water after using the toilet 59 years ago. I still do. I taught my kids the same, soap was still on ration in England as well. Drugs, STDs, alcoholism equal bad parenting.Running the Show* MR President (Hifikepunye Pohamba) there is a need for you to organise youth affairs administration in the country, there is no progress in youth economic empowerment.Scholarships* THANKS Mr (Vitalis) Ankama (Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education) for clearing up and addressing the China bursary issue as it is. The earlier response from the Hon Minister is purely cheap political propaganda.* OH, no, is this what we call Namibia, the land free of division. Just look at who is in the majority on the list of the Chinese bursary scheme? Our own elected government playing hide and seek with us while some are advantaged. After all, it is Africa. Keep it up top brass at the expense of the poor.Politics* WHAT is wrong with some of our politicians/leaders? Meme Ithana you are a Justice Minister but your attacks are not what will make us support mighty Swapo. Stop the attacks and mention constructive plans that our party has in place for after the election! Meme Lister you continue to tell it like it is.- Djamo mekunde * I AM annoyed by Pendukeni Ithana. Why can’t she just face Gwen Lister in person rather than attack her every day at rallies?Education* WHY are some teachers wearing their party colours at schools here in Omusati Region? Imagine someone from a party other than Swapo doing the same! Chaos of course. Many are poor performers who now follow rallies everywhere while their innocent learners are suffering. Shame on them. – An apolitical teacher* WHY is IOL giving us loans without our consent and then start deductions from our bank accounts without us having signed anything. Who is giving IOL the mandate to do such a thing? When you enquire, you are told to wait ‘we will get back to you’. I want an answer from the MD of IOL. – Ex-studentIn and From the Regions * PLEASE Minister of Health, the Grootfontein State Hospital needs urgent expansion and a child-friendly environment. Currently it is too small and overcrowded. And it needs more nurses.- Luke* WHY can’t the Government consider cutting down on the tax during the bonus month of government employees.- Nangula, Omusati* PLEASE Ministry of Labour help those people who are working at Oneshila Mini Market. They need your help.*MRS Gwen Lister of The Namibian, we don’t know what criteria you use to select SMSs for publication. Our story is not controversial or juicy, but please, we are asking a small favour from you. Please ask Chief Kgosimang of the Batswana Traditional Authority what happened to all the money and cattle, sheep and goats that were pledged at a fund-raising event in Gobabis at the end of August 2007. We were told that the money would be used to establish a trust fund for the Batswana people. Please, we want to know what happened to our money and all the animals that were pledged. We never received a financial report. We want a response from the chief. Finally, I just want to thank you The Namibian for helping us ordinary people to get the truth into the open.* IT is time Nored upped its electricity provision in Helao Nafidi. We are sick and tired of constant power failures. It happened twice on Friday and from six on Saturday. When we are supposed to cook our meals?* NORED has lost it and we are fed up. The electricity goes off at the times when we are working or cooking. Friday and Saturday is enough for this year. You claim to switch off power to upgrade wherever, but the problems of power failures are never addressed. We are tired in Ohangwena, Helao Nafidi.General* THE Ministers earn enough! A salary plus all benefits! Someone wants them to earn more without working even! Rather raise the pensioners’ monthly grant to N$2 000! * INSPECTOR General of the Namibian Police. Your members manning the roadblock south of Windhoek are harassing and demanding money especially from South African truck drivers. Instead of issuing fines to these drivers, they are demanding money because they are hungry as they put it. This is creating a bad image of the whole of the police force. Please look into this serious matter. * EX students in Sierra Leone: Response to the SMS of October 13. We did not hide our identity in the advert, so why not call one of us for clarification. We have no hidden agenda. It is purely a reunion and the party is voluntary. This is a social club, not a political one. Nor do we intend discussing politics. But we can never change the fact that we are all Namibians, regardless of our political affiliation, who were sent there by Swapo, hence the recognition. As to the question why now: the answer is simple: there is time for every thing. City Fathers Please…* CITY of Windhoek, the road markings on our streets do not last. The humps in Heliodoor Street were built a month ago, but already the markings are gone. Perhaps the paint is diluted or it is of low quality. Please investigate! NBC* NBC we the poor people of Namibia who cannot afford DStv would also like to watch FA / EPL on weekends. Please we pay TV licences thus want soccer on NBC please! * CAN NBC Current Affairs remove the days left to go for election advertisement from the left corner of television screens, because it prevents us from knowing people who make part of the news as their names and portfolios are concealed by it. Health* I THINK it will also control the spread of HIV-AIDS, should the Government introduce sperm screening programmes in Namibia for married dads to be! * I REALLY feel sad to see poor parents appealing for help from poor fellow Namibians for their babies to undergo possible operations. (NBC news Sunday October 18, baby with a huge growth on her face.) Why do we have a Ministry of Health in this country? Don’t they put money aside just to help out for emergencies like this? All we hear is vote, vote while they are ignoring people in serious need. Please Dr Kamwi try to assist that poor baby to go for surgery before she dies. – Citizen in tears * I’M appealing to the Government to assist patients who need funds for operations. It is painful to see people in pain and parents pleading for assistance. If companies like Trustco and MTC can give millions for competitions, why not for saving lives of those who don’t. Please I beg.- Richard Madi, Gobabis * IT’S sad to see infants struggling with rare diseases and big companies doing nothing to help while they make millions of dollars every day. Please help?- Gege.Service Please* CHECK when you buy yoghurt at Klein Windhoek Checkers – many of them are expired. * FERREIRA’S Garden Centre please change your Sunday closing time from 13h00 to 12h45. I was there at 12h45 and you were closed?* FNB how can we help you: as one of the biggest banks in Namibia your rates are very high but your service is the poorest I have experienced over the years. * THE Department of Maintenance in the Ministry of Works is taking five days to respond to a complaint of a blocked toilet. Please Hon Helmut (Angula) speed up your services.Labour* GIPF what is wrong with getting our pension through our banks? Lost and Found* NAHEMIA Kahweka. I lost my wallet in a green Toyota taxi in Windhoek with my ID card, bank ATM cards for Bank Windhoek, Nedbank and Nampost smart card. If found please contact me at 085-552-0393 or 085-566-8050
