SMSes Of The Day : Wednesday

* VIVA women with courage! Welcome and salute [Liberian President] Ellen [Sirleaf Johnson], our role model and our hope for democracy and a fair peace! Aluta continua! * THIS is a message from a concerned foreign citizen. The agreement that was signed between the Liberian government and the Namibian Government was a good thing to do. Because the continent members must do so that the member countries can trade among themselves, in order for the continent to benefit from its natural resources. Congratulations to the Namibian Government and Liberian government for a job well done. Let’s keep Africa or the continent trading among themselves.

Food For Thought * AFRICA’S post-independence failures thus far are the direct result of so-called liberation movements turning into selfish, self-enriching elites. [Kwame] Nkrumah of Ghana was the first, Mugabe is but the latest example. And if we do not watch out, those like Jerry Ekandjo and his SPYL will try and take us down the same road to ruin while cheering on Mugabe and his military dictatorship. Don’t let these selfish, self-seeking people ruin our beloved Motherland!* WHY, after more than a century since tens of thousands of Herero and Nama people died in Namibia’s first liberation war (1904-1907), is there still no memorial to their sacrifice? There is not even a single memorial at Luederitz’s Shark Island, in spite of thousands of people dying there in the German concentration camp! Swapo’s pretensions to have been the only liberation movement is cynical, false and totally dishonest. If we are to build a memorial to Independence, we should start with our first, real liberation heroes, not another over-priced Swapo monument to their own egos. And build it at Luederitz with Namibian labour, rather than another quick Chinese job like Heroes’ Acre – which is already falling apart!Rest in Peace* TO all public members friends and family on the unbelievable death of our Honourable Deputy Minister Gabes Shihepo, let us have courage and strength from the Almighty God in this time of grief. May his soul rest in eternal Peace. – Karlito EM lpinge, Houmoed* MY sincere condolences to the family, friends and the entire Namibian nation. Let us honour his [Shihepo’s] legacy by working towards a prosperous Namibia.Bouquets And Brickbats* I WANT to agree with Ms Lister in her Political Perspective of July 12. In this country hard work rarely gets recognised. People climb the ladder because they’re comrades. It leaves us non-comrades with nothing to aspire to. – Arandis* THANKS to the Government for providing clean water to the people of Okanya,Opoliyanda and Omuthitu. – Salomon SH* WAD (Women’s Action for Development) you are doing a good job but how could you jump Gobabis and open in Otjinene. We also need training at Gobabis. Please consider us. – Omaheke woman in need of skills* DEAR Editor the names of the deceased are constantly misspelt. Please enforce quality control measures. – In those cases where deaths are reported in the Police’s crime report, we have to rely on the information provided as we do not have any other means of checking names. But you are quite correct on the need to spell names correctly. Thank you. – News Editor* NBC-TV News. Stop showing dead bodies on the news. It is undignified, disrespectful of the deceased, their families and the viewers.Politics* I’M nervous about Elijah Ngurare’s words on Hoachanas, the poor, food, etc. Who wrote it? Clinton Swartbooi? These are things they’ve chosen to ignore all along. What’s happening? What’s this about?* SPYL and Elijah Ngurare, I am a white youth, and am sick of your rambling on about us. I was born after Independence, my parents brought me up to respect all colours, my best friend is black, I don’t look at his skin, I like and respect him as a person. Don’t blame me or other white youths for the colonial past, we had nothing to do with it, just let it go! Why must we suffer because of people we did not even know? Why do you tell me to live in Hoachanas to prove what to you? Why are you so bitter and twisted? Why are you so cruel? SPYL, visit the schools where there are white kids, you have never approached us with forgiveness and an offer of friendship. All we see is hatred. Give us white youth a chance. We are not at all that bad! – Dean (16)* WHAT’S wrong with Minister Jerry Ekandjo, and what are his personal advisers paid for if they allow the minister to make such silly and ignorant remarks? From ‘whites are killers’ to ‘Tsvangirai is a puppet of the British’. Isn’t it all shocking? We want national unity in Namibia and an end to dictatorship in Zimbabwe. We will not forget what the whites have done but we forgave. Just as we forgave those responsible for the disappearance of our fellow brothers in exile. – KwekuGeneral* MINISTRY of War Veterans, what do you mean we will receive our benefits as from next year’s Budget? Why do you always let us wait? Every time just wait. A person could even just die registered without getting his money. We don’t want to wait, just give us our money. We were even supposed to get our money in 1990.* PLEASE can the Chinese ambassador to Namibia come on Good Morning Namibia, and answer these questions. In any part of China, is there any business park called Namibian town or African town? If not, why not? Is it allowed in China to name a business park ‘African Town’. – Concerned Citizen* I WANT the Anti-Corruption Commission to visit the Omaheke Region again, please. [Alleged] Nepotism exists like nobody’s business. – Concerned citizen* I WANT to know why they don’t want trained chefs at the Otjiwarongo Army Base because the food is not up to standard. And in the mess we use to eat in, there are birds flying around. Please do something. – Heavy, Otjiwarongo* WHY is it that the taxis get away with murder? They drive like they want, causing accidents, and nothing happens to them! And if we say anything to them, they want to hurt you or they try to run you off the road.Marking Our Past* MEMORIES are better monuments than cathedrals.* THERE is no reason not to have a memorial to those who won Independence in a conspicuous part of the capital. This watershed achievement was hard won and reshaped Namibia for the better. Let us also remember what was fought for and not be as abusively elitist as those deposed.* IF one looks around Germany today, not a single statue commemorating any Nazi soldiers. Why? Because the Germans do not want to remember that. Which is why we as Hereros and Namas, and Namibian peoples at large, should work towards the demolition of that statue. Because we too don’t want to remember the genocide of our peoples. In And From The Regions* WHEN are we getting clean water at Onashali? Please the Omulonga councillor must do something.* WHEN is Okashandja School going to be electrified? Can the Oshana Councillors give reasons why the school near Ondangwa is still without electricity? Please give us power after 18 years. We have been patient long enough.* MUNICIPALITY of Grootfontein, you [allegedly] fail to do your work by cleaning the town, now you are threatening to penalise the community if we throw rubbish around. We promise we won’t unless you provide all houses with dustbins. Ministry of Defence thank you for a job well done. – Concerned Resident* I WANT to tell the minister responsible for regional development that the local authority leadership of Tsumeb is a mess. This is due to the fact that they do not want to listen to the demands, especially the Soweto residents who want toilets built with funds provided by the GRN. – Concerned MemberSporting* I’LL fail in my capacity as a Pirates supporter if I don’t congratulate the players. Excellent achievement. Being a champion means being a better team over 22 games. You guys deserve that. Sound management, excellent team and wonderful supporters’ made a winning team. – Davey, Swakop.* CONGRATS to Pirates for winning the elusive league. Thanks to the players, supporters and management. Get Mohammed for us. Africa here we come. – Rhuuksie, Mariental* OLD Mutual school tournament. I am a sports lover and a teacher by profession. I would like to air my concern about how the Old Mutual tournament is being organised. Please, let officials from Old Mutual be involved in the organisation of the tournament. There are many issues concerning some schools using school dropouts as players. Let us take a good example from Coke, players should use identification cards next time. Teachers cannot do it alone, let’s work together with one hand and achieve our goals and objectives. Thanks for supporting school sport and allowing youngsters to show their talents and skills.* ANGELA you don’t understand the politics of Namibian sports. The Springboks are supported by a Union that works on a budget of more than R800 million per annum. – NRULabour Issues* I APPLIED for a job at the Ministry of Justice in January 2007 and in July 2008 I received a letter in the mail stating that my application was unsuccessful! How can it take a year and a half to get feedback! It is unacceptable!* WALVIS Bay Police, please inform us about the outcome of the records clerk candidates who were interviewed on May 15. We were told that we would be informed about the interview outcome within four weeks but till now we have heard nothing from you. Please inform us so that we can stop worrying. – Records Clerk candidate* I JUST want to ask the nation if there’s someone who knows the organisation that works on the health inspection on supermarket to come and help us here at Lyeeta Shopping Centre in Okuryangava. Due to the closing of the toilet by the manager now the workers\staff have to use riverbeds since June 10.Sound Of Music* CAN NBC tell us, what is kasi music? What are the benefits of kasi music? Please we want something that we can benefit from.Disconnections* MY request to MTC to look at areas like Omunghongo, Okandonga, Haufiku-weenime, Oduludia, Omahahi, Onambaladi, Egologolo, Onkumbula, etc. We are in need of your service, we are suffering a lot. Your network point can be at Omahahi, Onambaladi so that can be connected with Epembe, Oshikunde, Okankolo and Ontana. This problem is in Ohangwena in Epembe constituency. Please we need your service over there. – ShindabiResponse To An Enquiry On Patents* TO register a patent you must find a patent lawyer in SA. Then you must decide if you want it national or international. Financing either with investors. Or sell the patent to someone who can manufacture it and collect monthly royalties. – Theuns – Thank you for responding to a reader’s enquiry. I’m sure the person who asked will appreciate it. – News Editor* AFRICA’S post-independence failures thus far are the direct result of so-called liberation movements turning into selfish, self-enriching elites.
