SMSes of the Day : Thursday

* ONE wonders about conditions in which learners find themselves preparing and writing exams. The noise from bottle stores that happen to exist in close proximity to nearly every school is cause for concern. Go to Sam Nujoma Combined School in Kabbe Constituency, and you will hear the deafening noise from a bottle store less than 100 m away. Has the school management, school board, traditional leaders, parents and community at large taken the noise issue seriously? The answer is an obvious NO. Has the Regional Director of Education and his team, Circuit inspectors included, ensured that exams take place in a noise-free environment?

* THE Ministry of Health should review its staff establishment of all health cadres in all 13 regions. This will solve the problem of work overload and improve the health of the communities. Just look at the number of health facilities in Windhoek! Overcrowded all the time, long queues and very few staff! Population growth and migration are on the increase unlike in the past. Come on! Employ more people in health facilities and you will see the difference. Food for thought* I WANT the Ministry of Lands, Resettlement and Rehabilitation to tell us when the intend to resolve the dispute over the land between Otjerunda and Omakange in the Kunene Region. It has been now several years since the former president attended to this. I’m appealing to the current President and the Minister of Lands to quickly look into this controversial issue since it affects the progress of our game conservation programmes and above all it is a threat to the peace and stability that we currently enjoy in Namibia.* CAN I suggest that the Damara Gaob Festival this year be celebrated under the theme ‘UNITY IN DIVERSITY’. Let the Damara people allow for the differences that are there, but at least unite culturally. To all Damara leaders, please don’t use our culture as a platform for your political ambitions.* ALLOW me to space in your paper to express my views on VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN NAMIBIA. Violence against women is a major health concern, one that costs the health care system thousands of dollars and hundreds of lives. Violence affects women of all ages, races, ethnic backgrounds, socio-economic levels and educational levels. Two of the most common forms of violence are intimate partner abuse and rape. Even today, society not only accepts these forms of violence against women but also shifts the blame for the violence to women by asking questions such as , “how did she make him so mad? “why does she stay?” “what was she doing out so late?” and “why did she dress that way?” – Eunda* ALL taxis must have an unusual colour like purple to be visible and be seen from a distance. For instance all taxis in Addis Ababa are navy blue or were in the late nineties. Just a thought. – Uvaa (Good suggestion Uvaa. I personally think YELLOW would be a great colour! – News Editor)Guards for Iraq* THANKS to the public for having made their voices heard on the Iraq issue. America should clear up its own mess. USA could not listen to the worldwide outcry against the invasion, why are they now wanting to draw in other. Hope they find the weapons of mass destruction soonest and go back to save innocent lives on both sides.* LEAVE us to go to Iraq, because we have no jobs. If you don’t want us to go then provide us with jobs.* THUMBS up to the Government for closing down the SOC-SMG. We love Namibia even if there is unemployment. – Kauna, Arandis* HOW dare those Americans want to recruit Namibians as security guards in Iraq while their own people’s lives are already at stake there. They should leave us alone in peace with our poverty. We have already had enough during the liberation struggle of our country.* EVEN poverty will not make us stupid. Well done Government for having deported the bad elements!* WORLD policing is America’s unilateral self-entrusted task. Let them do the guarding of their own places in Iraq and Afghanistan.* TONY BLAIR is gone, now you turn to the poor to assist you in your evil axis war! Just call him back so that he could do his part as you planned. Leave Namibians, they were not involved and have no interest in your projects in Iraq and Afghanistan. From the regions* WE are experiencing a very big problem with FM radio reception at Tsandi. It is however not the whole area but only at the nurses’ home. There is no reception inside the nurses’ home rooms and we have to go out of our rooms to listen to radio. Can the NBC do something, we miss out on FM radio services, especially the Otjiherero services. – Unoo.* AS much as I give credit to The Namibian, I am not happy with the photo that was published of Chief Sitentu Mpasi of the Kwangali tribe. I believe I know how he dresses formally and in his traditional attire. As a respected man, he needs to be portrayed respectfully (decently). Please make an appointment to take a decent picture for use in your publication.* ERONGO Regional Governor and the Daures Constituency Councillor: When are you bringing electricity to our rural areas called Kandaries and Okombahe or must we get the ACC to investigate.* MTC, Cell One , RA, MVA, CoD, Swapo, DTA and all civil engineers please help us Okongo road users. We are dying from accidents taking place every week. What is worse is that no media reports on these accidents. We are also Namibian and not Aafuka or Kongolese as you call us. Thanks in anticipation.* THE Traditional Authority Act is clear, Justus //Garoeb, Elifas //Khoaseb and Apius !Auxab should concentrate on organising the UDF congress and not the Gaob festival, because they are all confused politicians and are confusing the Damaras further.Murder and the B1 Butcher* SHOCKING Police incompetence! Does NamPol not use DNA sampling? Mr Ndeitunga, you must issue a public apology to the Namibian public, and more importantly to Olivier’s family for the hell they had to go through. And please, just find this maniac. – Osho* ‘BUTCHER victim alive! How pathetic is our system? Just unbelievable! * B1 KILLER, you can trick everyone on earth, but not GOD. He saw you when you did it, He knows where you are. So repent before your destruction brother. – Uncle CGeneral* ONE wonders why when a poor person commits a crime like rape they are arrested right away, but the rich ones will wait for the decision of the Prosecutor General.* WHAT are the duties of the traffic officials? They are seen driving up and down the city streets for accidents only. Drivers violate traffic regulations but the law enforcement agents turn a blind eye. Please implement the offender-chasing system to give fines out, only then will the law be obeyed!* I DON’T understand why we are still exporting primary products? We should add value to our products through manufacturing before we export them. We need more industries or factories so that our people can get jobs. Business people try and set up factories, instead of just buying and selling. – MAO Karasburg* AN SMS in yesterday’s edition refers. People should be honest. The NBC was never late at the event at Heja Lodge. The programme was changed. The PM was not even reading the speech. What did the NBC miss there? The event was fairly covered. No matter what, NBC will always be the best.* DON’T kill the messenger “poor cleaner”. Clara (Bohitile) is just doing her job like you’re supposed to do. Anyway, how do you afford cash loans? * I HAVE also experienced unfriendly service. Standing in a queue waiting for chicken in one of the well known restaurants in the city for one hour. I asked the lady in English if there was enough chicken, she replied in her mother tongue that I don’t speak nor understand. Later the chicken was ready and she started to give to all customers that were waiting, except me. She later turned to me telling me that there was nothing for me. Please employers, take your workers for customer service training.* CAN the Ministry of Education tell us why the adjustments of some teachers’ salaries are taking so long after the submission of their qualifications.* I WONDER, who is in charge of University of Open Learning. The institution seems not to allow students to discontinue their studies. Even when we wrote a letter of cancellation they don’t stop deducting from your salary. Is this the varsity of nation building? Please UOL change your way of doing business.* THE Ministry of Labour and labour unions must do something about the salary structure in Government and it’s parastatals. Some people are earning more than N$500 000 per annum, while others get less than N$15 000 per annual, which is not fair.* THERE’S a terrible wholesale slaughter of dogs in Wanaheda near Ceasars Court. Will the SPCA and Police please investigate. The stench of rotting dog intestines around this area is unbearable. – Worried dog lover* DEAR Minister of Home Affairs are you aware that your Immigration Officers are earning poor salaries compared to Customs Officers? Please increase the salaries of these officers because what they earn is nothing. On the ball* I JUST want to tell the NFA and the Brave Warriors coach that the African Nation Cup is no joke. Therefore from Morocco the team should remain in camp until February. No Christmas break for them until the tournament is over.* BRAVE Warriors technical team should not select Henrico Botes. He will only have a chance to play the last game as he is suspended for the first two games. That player is overrated. He is struggling to make it in South Africa.* IT is difficult to accept what happened to the once mighty Chief Santos and is still going on today. Only two options are available to rescue and turn around the fortunes of the team. We should provide an accountable, visionary and shared leadership and or register the FC as a company (cc).
