* IT is time for labour unions and student organisations to concentrate all their effort on matters relevant to their constituencies. Workers’ and students’ problems are neglected for the sake of politics. Wake up and do your jobs.

* EAT soccer, sleep soccer, wake up soccer. When do wives get attention? At least now I will get attention. Thanks no English soccer. Food for thought* CHILDREN born in exile must be given jobs, instead of giving money to ex-combatants. Our mothers and fathers please speak out for us to get employment and stop demanding pay-outs. The Government has done enough for you in the form of income-generating projects in addition to a monthly payment of N$500. Veteran Affairs Minister please look into this.* SOME Namibians have it all wrong. The policy of national reconciliation does not mean that we should forget the past. It seems that we only want to forget what suits us. Lets talk about the mistakes made before Independence so that people can close the chapter on their missing beloved ones. Talking will not destabilise national security, but silence will. So let’s talk and walk the talk. – Peaceloving NamibianFrom the regions* PLEASE Government, you are now busy destroying the North by establishing too many towns and pushing us deeper into desperation.* WAKE up from your sleep, Councillors of Outjo. Your youth are perishing. Many night clubs, too much drinking and alarming teenage pregnancies. Build recreational facilities for young people and close down some night clubs. I want to see you contributing towards helping the youngsters to help themselves improve their lifestyles for the better. – E.A.* IS it not shameful to our Government that water points in rural areas will stand as white elephants because of high charges? People are now abandoning taps.* PLEASE, why are the headmen, councillors and other leaders sitting and discussing the issue of IDs and other documents. My advice is to select people in all 13 regions and send them to Windhoek to go and sort out those documents and take them to churches in their villages. Please, The Namibian team, pass on this idea to the nation.* ILLEGAL gambling machines are not only in Windhoek, Caprivi is also infested. Somebody please do something.* WHY is the Government reluctant to protect the property of its people? Zambians are stealing our cattle. Should we take law into our own hands? Minister of Defence and Minister of Security, do something. Patrols by soldiers are urgently needed, especially in the Sibbinda constituency in the Caprivi Region.* SHOPRITE Mariental is not catering for the poor because their prices are higher than those of cuca shops. Please review your prices.Thanks.* OMADHIYA village in the Onesi constituency isn’t enjoying the fruits of the independent Namibia. Since 1990, there’s been no electricity. – Grade 8-10 classes* LET’S talk about education at the Ompakoya Primary School in the Omusati Region. No development, a bucket system, electricity in certain areas only. WHAT is going on? I’m a pure Kwanyama who is disappointed by what we are doing to the San in the Ohangwena Region (Open File, August 14). Our leaders must change and remember that the San are the original Namibians. I am shocked and ashamed.* IS the Deputy Prime Minister acquainted with the history of the San people, especially here in the North? If not, then she should go to our Elcin church headquarters at Oniipa and find out how many projects have been tried by both our church and by the Finnish missionaries.* THE Deputy Prime Minister in charge of San affairs has now decided to interfere in traditional matters for the sake of the San people. This concerns the cemetery at Nkongo. I am not saying that the San people should not be buried with the others.* Doctor Amathila should know that here in the North, just as in other parts of the country, we have communal cemeteries, cemeteries for different denominations and even family cemeteries.* IN the early days our fathers travelled from here in the North on foot through wild animals on their way to the South even as far as Oranjemund in search of wealth and other commodities for their and their families’ survival. Why can’t the so-called marginalised not fight to survive? Football fury* I WANT to sell my Smart Card. True there were killings, but it’s not as easy as you say to forget. Their silence has resulted in the submission to the ICC. WHY are private doctors using state funded pharmaceutical items free of charges at the Oshakati Hospital? Is that not corruption? No wonder we always exceed the budget.* ITS such a pity that doctors in State Hospitals work so hard but earn a mere handful and are taxed heavily. No housing or car allowance. Look at the Vets, they earn twice as much as medical doctors. My best wishes to all Namibian doctors who serve the nation with such rewards. – Rapingua* HOW long are nurses going to continue buying their own uniforms? Nurses are buying everything needed for their job in State hospitals such as thermometers, stethoscopes, scissors, etc. They are working under pressure. I wonder what next, maybe buying medication? Just look at nurses’ salaries!* DEAR Dr Kamwi can you please give your junior doctors their rightfully deserved market-related car and housing allowances, before we lose the very few we have to the private sector.* WHY doesn’t the Keetmanshoop clinic based at Tseiblaagte have no transport to take patients to the hospital. Patients have to find taxis. Is this fair, Mr Kamwi? – From Ibu* MR Kamwi, is the Oshakati State hospital also of European standard? I’ve never been to Europe, so they must also have smelly wards, cockroaches and rude nurses? Wow! – Alpha General* TO the Minister of Justice: I would move to establish a small claims court. It’s so expensive to engage a lawyer if, for example, somebody owes you N$500. This would make our justice system one of the most progressive in AFRICA. – Makbright, Arandis* INCREASE the wages of the security guards. They are helping in combating crime. They are the unrecognised heroes of this country. Labour Ministry help out. – Rambo* CAN the NFA tell us which section of the Labour Act says that a person can be appointed automatically after acting for six months in a position? Stop reserving positions for unqualified people. We want to see transparency and fairness in appointing the new CEO.* I THANK the labour unions who are speaking about the grievances of securities guards, especially to bring their salaries on par with workers in other industries. Guards should also stand up for their rights. – Ndjoba* ABOUT the Police Recruitment System: do they really think of the work that reservists do? You find that some reservists arrest people with mandrax and dagga, while there are officers who have never arrested anyone, but they don’t want to employ them (reservists). Why? Take even two reservists per region and give them employment in this intake!! – Worried Namibian who wants an answer from the Safety and Security minister* I REALLY want to ask the NUNW leader, MR KAARONDA, if he is aware that some Government employees have worked for more than 17 years but earn N$1 000 a month.* ONE Police mortuary with one normal bakkie to load corpses in the Windhoek-Rehoboth-Okahandja area, while the Special Field Force has more then three mortuary bakkies just to transport SFF members to the north if they pass away. Why is everybody turning a blind eye to this? SFF doesn’t have a mortuary, just a normal office that they call a mortuary.* IF what Kanu Amadhila is saying is true, than there’s no fairness and transparency in NFA and its Disciplinary Committee.* I OFTEN visit South Africa and how proud I was to tell them how beautiful and safe our country is. Government, please do something I cannot afford bodyguards.* PRESIDENT Pohamba, in your inaugural speech in March 2005 you promised that you’d lead by example in fighting corruption. Is it not a form of corruption when you travel on taxpayers’ money but uses official time meeting privately with Swapo leaders? As Head of State on an official trip, why can’t you meet leaders of all political parties during that time? Corruption camouflages itself in different forms!* I’M desperately hurt. They always disturb the opposition leaders when they are delivering their speeches. Please prepare because viewers are shocked by your behaviour.* DEAR Editor, I want to know if a political party is the property of certain individuals. Please help me in this regard, as well as the public at large.* OUR politicians only focus on their interests. They have to follow the example of a good leader, Bishop Kameeta.
