SMSes Of The Day : Friday

* THEY say we should count our blessings, well Namibians should really do that. Having travelled to other African countries, I really appreciate the cleanliness of our country. I want to thank everyone for this. Please keep it up!

Food For Thought * A CALL by churches for tough action against shebeens must be taken seriously. We cannot be a nation of drunkards. Our goals and vision cannot be accomplished. Shebeens have a big effect on our children. May God bless all who protested against shebeens in Keetmanshoop. I believe we will do the same in Katutura.- Baloyi* IF all employers paid their workers market-related salaries, we can avoid strikes and save companies from a loss in production, legal costs, time and all other implications. Good labour relations ensure better work relations.ACC, We Need You!* ACC we need your toll-free number to report any corruption! We really need this number!Politics* KINDLY note that having a single seat does not mean a party has the mandate to bring along changes at will. Just look at how the opposition’s contributions are outvoted in the Parliament.* I FAIL to understand why these prefabricated political analysts only analyse the opposition but not the ruling party.* I AGREE with the SMS of Tuesday, September 30, in your newspaper, talking about Margareth Mensah-Williams and Swapo’s singing and dancing Minister Marlene Mungunda. Truly speaking where were these ladies during those hard days when women like the late Gertrude Kandanga, Ida Jimmy, Ida Hoffman, Nashilongo Elago, Maria Kapere, Elina Ndapuka, Lindy Kazombae and indeed Gwen Lister, the only fearless female journalist at that time and still now, were known to us as representing the oppressed women of Namibia inside the country? Equally in exile, women like the late Mekulu Putuse Appolus, Dr Libertina Amathila, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Pendukeni Ithana, Ellen Musialela, Pashukeni Shoombe, Susan Nghidinwa and Airah Taapopi-Shikwambi were known throughout the world to be the representatives and spokespersons of all oppressed but fighting women of Namibia under the banner of the Swapo movement. Why are they so vocal and even going to the extent of insulting seasoned leaders like Dr Amathila, Nahas Angula including the current Head of State. Please tone down, we know the people who fought for the liberation and independence you are enjoying today, please. Who is driving you behind?Bouquets And Brickbats* THANK you Bank Windhoek for opening a new branch at Omaruru.* I WOULD like to compliment all the nurses at 3 East Windhoek Central Hospital and the theatre staff. Thanks for truly great service.* VIVA UDF, Khorixas is developing, keep up the good work, may the Lord bless you.General* FRONT page of Republikein of October 2, trophy hunting – only a demented and sick person can derive pleasure from shooting a defenceless leopard.* YOUR Excellency can we do away with Ministry of Presidential Affairs and replace with Developmental Affairs – 2030? Presidential Affairs could be dealt with by a PR person.* RIGHT to a fair trial. Is this exclusive in traditional authority trials? One would be very shocked if I said a 77-year-old woman of Ondonga was told to shut up! The best leader listens to his people and investigates.* SHAME on the City Council? Streets are named after significant heads of states and heroes, it’s like that all over the world. What Lucky Packet? How easily one forgets the fingers that feed one. Eish!* IN my view, the mission and existence of NSHR is right, but its management and administration is wrong, hence failing it. Grouping people like the ‘Omusati clique’ is uncalled for from such a supposed to be reputable organisation. You are the fire extinguisher and not otherwise. Please keep to the generally assumed mission. – Kakukutu, Oikango, Ongwediva.* THEY are just kids for God’s sake. Yes, they did wrong [stole a horse and slashed open its belly] and am sure they are aware by now. Are you a parent? Then what do you mean “they don’t deserve to live”?* A SOLDIER is the very one who can defend the country, but he is one who is getting a low salary. Does the President know about this?* WHY is it that every time the Avid case comes up in The Namibian newspaper only the photo of [Paulus] Kapia is coming up with it? Is he the only one involved? Why not the photos of all the accused or alternate photos for each issue when the case comes up. Otherwise the newspaper will be seen as biased towards Kapia. – We hear you. Just to note that he’s the highest profile person involved and among the key players in the incident. – News Editor* PLEASE The Namibian newspaper what are you try to promote, teach and tell this nation, because some SMSes are very insulting, not respectful and give a bad image to the younger nation. Please do not allow some SMSes that insult our minister. – There’s often a fine line between what some perceive as insults and others see as criticism. The intention is not to insult anybody, but Namibians have the right to question the decisions of the people they elect to power. – News Editor* THIS country lacks leadership and the consequences will be irreversible chaos. – Kamati* CITY of Windhoek please do something! We were awoken at 01h30 on Sunday by the constant screaming of a woman at the house next door. We walked out and saw her being severely beaten up by her ‘husband’ for failing to cook (according to him). We tried to call the Police but we had no airtime and we couldn’t find a single free emergency number in the directory! Please look into this!* GIPF, if only 10 000 out of 30 000 pensioners have submitted their certificate of existence then there is a problem of information getting to the recipients . I am fairly up to date with events but have not seen it anywhere. What about the elderly? I propose that GIPF get off their butt and go into the community to register. Don’t say that you have no option but to suspend their payment.* ‘FOOD and Mouth’ or ‘Foot and Mouth’, please say which is correct. (The Namibian, Tuesday, September 30, page 15). – Foot-and-mouth disease is the name of the cattle disease. There is a spelling mistake on the vehicle. – NewsdeskIn And From The Regions* HARDAP regional leaders, where is the money that has been sent for the flood victims from the office of the Prime Minister? Please.Show Time* IT’S not only the Windhoek Show that’s become like a Chinatown. The Ongwediva Show is the same. Both shows became Chinatowns long ago.* THE Windhoek Show. It is about time that the Windhoek Show Committee be replaced with young, fresh, creative minds. Please plant grass where the rides are and some shade trees. Come on guys, the show feels like one big flea market.* WELL done to no fireworks this year at the show! May you keep up the high ethical standard of not putting animals in fear as well as not wasting money which really should go into education instead!Education* STOP moaning about the Ministry of Education! The Grade 11 learners don’t have a development studies teacher. – SVMT* TEACHERS are still mistreated on their day, World Teachers Day both by Nantu and the Ministry of Education. I’m very concerned because I have applied to Windhoek schools and I’m so desperate and hungry to get a post in Windhoek.* MR Kamwi Kabajani of Kunene Region, why do principals in Kunene not teach promotional subjects? They don’t even attend principal periods with the Grade 11 and 12 classes. Teachers are demotivated and this will greatly affect learners’ performance. Do you really care about people?Disconnections* WHAT’S the point of having DStv Compact if there is not even one movie channel?* TO all Namibians, I wonder when hearing how we (Namibians) react to the ideas and comments we give to issues in phone-in programmes on NBC radio. We tend to forget that every person has his/her ways of understanding and puts ideas forward differently. It is better to agree to disagree, than to get angry with one another. What is good for you, it might not be good to me. Please.* A CALL by churches for tough action against shebeens must be taken seriously. We cannot be a nation of drunkards.
