SMSes of the Day : Friday

SMSes of the Day : Friday

* THE Dogg, Gazza and Pride.I just do not get it. To all artists, a little humility will not harm you. Be humble and you will go far or remain proud and fall.

* CONGRATULATIONS to The Dogg, Gazza, Tate Buti, Ou Stakes and all citizens for their great support to our local musicians. One love to us Mshasho fans, good health to my fellow GMPs, hugs to Omalaeti.coms and kisses to Damara punchy. Local is lekker, our money determines your winnings and don’t be carried away to change your careers, I salute you DOGG! – Kyle Food for thought* HOW on earth can one farmer fence off 1 000 hectares of communal land denying thousands of poor landless people access to the communal land? Worst of all, the person doesn’t pay tax to the State or a tithe to God. Yet you ask the GRN or God to assist you in time of drought. I don’t care if a farmer fences off the whole of Oshikoto Region as long as he pays the required tax per year.* THE Dogg’s apology on the Oshiwambo service of the NBC did not make any difference because he only apologised to the Oshiwambo-speaking people, while he insulted the public on NBC TV. He should apologise on NBC TV so that the whole nation can hear.* AVIS Dam is a place that everybody knows they can take their dogs to run a bit. If [the policeman who shot a dog there] has a fear of dogs, what was he doing there? Dogs are curious animals, they smell everything. It’s what they do. He was just trigger happy, that’s why the worshond almost got shot. His firearm should be removed and he should be sent to do community service at the SPCA and take responsibility for the veterinary bill. Our hearts go out to Hagler.Challenge met* I KNOW for sure you are not going to print this in your paper. The Avis dog shooting made it to the front page, but one woman making the difference doesn’t. Is a dog more important than someone who tries to make Namibia a better place to live in, you do the math. – This newspaper has published numerous stories about charitable work done by individuals. We regularly run reports on people and communities, their struggles and those individuals who try and make a difference. One such case was a recent front-page story with a picture about a woman, who runs a crèche in Havana, one of Windhoek’s informal settlements. That story, and other reports run about people making a difference, have attracted considerable public interest, especially the business community and individuals who donated to the crèche. The report on the dog being shot at Avis Dam is more than just about a dog shooting. It involves public safety, rights, community, the behaviour of those entrusted with ensuring our safety, gun culture, etc, etc. Further, while we regularly run reports on community issues, it is rare that a dog is shot by a law enforcement officer in a public place without any apparent provocation. Sadly, though, cruelty against animals remains too pervasive in our society. Finally, we hope that you, whoever you may be, have done something this week to make a difference! Thank you. – NewsdeskCreative* I found Wednesday’s Dogg-Dog front-page picture very humorous, especially with the current Dogg-Gazza and Dog-Cop brush-offs. Keep it up The Namibian! – MTP – Thank you! We try. – NewsdeskHurricane Governor* I’M sick and tired of all the rumours going on about our beloved Governor of the Hardap Region. For God’s sake she is only human. God will punish her (Aletta Kooper) for all her (alleged) lies. Enough is enough whoever you might be Aletta Kooper, you will regret everything you did. – If you have additional information on the incident, please feel free to inform us about it, but it’s better to desist from threats. It might fuel the situation, rather than resolve it. It seems that too many people are already in need of anger management courses. – News Editor* I AM tired of the Hardap Governor, who is always in trouble. She should rather become a boxer than holding her current post. – Nadia* ENOUGH is enough, Katrina.* HAGE Geingob, Swapo vice president, please come to the Hardap Region and talk sense into our leadership. Come soon! Please, the house is on fire. Do it for us, its not late yet.* ONE of the Governors I would love to see one day stripped of her portfolio is Hanse-Himarwa. Is food scarce in the South or what? How can she stoop so low fighting over food? I think Swapo should stop tolerating the type of leadership style that inflicts pain and hurt to the souls of those we are entrusted with. Next time the Swapo Party should seriously assess the credentials of would-be Governors. – Chris – Thank you. Although food was allegedly involved in the incident, I’m not sure that the fight was over food. No one has yet commented on what exactly sparked the encounter. – News EditorTrade deal* THE European Union was not able to get a deal at the Doha talks. Now they try to bully ACP countries into this one.* THE Government was right to refuse signing the EU deal. They have the consumers and we have the cattle. It’s a bluff, they will be back, why should we let them flood our market with poor quality East European goods? Farmers look to the Middle East and Asia, that’s what New Zealand did when Britain stopped dealing with them on joining the EU.* FOR whose benefit will it be if farmers are told to go and find other markets? GRN stop being selfish and consider other options that will benefit all parties involved. – RosiePolitics in general* AS an outsider, it seems that tribal power and politics has gone too far and has entrenched itself in Namibian politics. You can either have small independent tribal states or one united Namibia, but not both.* HANDS Off! Don’t strangle the media or freedom of speech. Swapo wants us to believe it is a democratic party. Give us reason to trust you. Is the RDP such a bitter pill to swallow?* I WONDER how SPYL found out about the letters of reprimand to two NBC employees. Don’t the concerned employees know about company confidentiality? Good job Umbi.Education* CAN the public relations officer of education respond to the nation why they do not want to combine the Grade 12 certificates in one certificate? Many Grade 12 graduates who have sat for an exam five times are walking around with five certificates each one only indicating the subject passed. My suggest to the ministry is to establish a programme whereby any member of the public who wish to combine his/her subjects into one certificate must contribute a certain amount provided that it must clearly indicated the subjects and when such people/person sat for such exam. – OKA* MR PS of education how do you expect to have national standards if national promotional post standards don’t exist? How can a hard-working teacher be led by a weak and uncommitted teacher? Come to Caprivi unexpected and ask for all applicants’ application forms, shortlists and appointees and their papers and previous results. – Concerned teacher* HONOURABLE Minister of Education, 95% of teachers who graduated last and this year are unemployed. They have been applying to both rural and urban schools but without success. Being a teacher has become a worthless status because teacher graduates remain on the streets for more than two years, especially in the North.* WHY does the Polytechnic of Namibia not offer B Tech Human Resources through distance? We did National Diploma Personnel Management through the Polytech and now we are working in the North. We want to further our studies through distance at Unam Northern Campus. We need help from the Polytech management!* IS Unam aware that a certain lecturer is selling accounting question papers for $2 000? Marks can also be changed for a payment. Though this issue had been reported nothing is done and the person is still in the employ of the institution.* WHAT is going on in the Ministry of Education? Why are some graduate loan holders repaying their loans, but others are still enjoying their full salaries without any deduction? Is it a must to pay back the loan or is it when you feel like it?* PLEASE Ministry of Education must pay the study loans of Unam students since we will not get our results on December 14 if they have not settled our accounts yet. We are afraid because it’s difficult to pay on our own to get our results. This is a serious issue please help the students out.* I HOPE the Ministry of Education is aware that teachers applying for Head of Department positions are made to sit for tests before interviews. The problem is that this is done in the Oshigambo Circuit and was done quite recently at Onamulunga Combined School. I want the Ministry of Education and the Public Service Commission to tell us if this is the latest criteria. We know instances where people are promoted because they are known by the inspector and the committee conducting the interviews. On the ball* CAN somebody please tell me why on earth the Warriors need to go for a training camp to Europe for a competition taking place in Africa, of all places to Germany! African teams go to Europe when preparing for the World Cup to acclimatise. Why don’t we go to East Africa and get used the hospitality of other African countries, because every time the Warriors venture into Africa we hear about the bad reception they received. Let’s wake up and smell the grass Barry!* IN response to an SMS writer about a new coach. For your information Bhutan was only admitted to the Fifa family at the 2005 congress in Paris. Their ranking will not be high. Even Namibia for the best part of 17 years of admission has been languishing at 169 and is only stabilising now, as you are aware. The new coach was preparing and forming a national team for organised football through the KNVB. Let’s read more about the game.* OUR under-17 national team is in the camp for the past 2 weeks, yet we read nothing about them. They are playing this weekend international games please Corry, our best soccer editor, find out and let us know what’s happening, we rely on you !General* NAMPOST parcels sent from overseas are either missing or half of the contents are lost. How trustworthy is NamPost really? Stealing and covering up won’t help. Are there any surveillance cameras at the NamPost mail centre to monitor operations? For the last five years all my gifts were opened. Who is responsible? Any actions?* I WOULD like to make an appeal to our leaders, Mr President and your Cabinet increase the salaries of Police officers especially in low ranks. These people are paid very little compared to the job they do. They are struggling to support their families. Please help them.* WE have moral duty to guard against religious groups that seek to undermine all forms of African culture. They are interpreting the holy scripture in such away that all African norms are evil. They never pray together with other Christians or enter their churches.* PLEASE bring our Medic Donatha back. NFA you think you are punishing her, but you are punishing us the national players with so many injuries. Players are complaining not having proper treatment, so please we need the right person with experience. The players need to be happy. Barry choose the right people on the right time, this woman is no chancer, but is qualified.* HIV test results are taking so long to get at the Windhoek Central Hospital. Why? They tell us to come and get our results on a specific day, but when you go there the result is not yet out. They will tell you to wait, it happened to me two times and to my sister three times. – Ashimbanga Theophilus* I EXPECTED the NBC TV news sign language interpreter to explain and apologise for being absent for two days. What happened to courtesy and decent manners? – Ben Katamila* I’M very concerned about crime in Namibia. I don’t know whether the President and the Minister of Safety and Security are aware of the escalating crime or are they just ignoring it? Namibia is so small with small towns but yet the crime is so high. We have the Special Field Force and the NDF, the forces are not doing anything and should help the Police to combat crime.* I FEEL pity for our tourists that are attacked or killed and robbed of their belongings in Namibia. The President is the only one who can stop crime if he strongly commands his forces to stop crime in our country. We are no longer safe in our houses, we are travelling in fear. Our houses and cars are broken into and we lose our valuable belongings every day. Do you think Mr Garcia and other tourists who are robbed or attacked will come back? From the regions* DEAR new president of Swapo, I am a resident of Okandjengedi behind Spotman, there is no water, electricity, toilet and sewage and we use candles, wood and paraffin since Independence and have to travel long distances to fetch water.* PLEASE Governor Boois on the eve of your second tenure as Karas Governor undertake to do the following: Bury the hedged and make peace with your CRO, prioritise matters of development nature and cut down on funerals, weddings and BODC matters. Do not answer or respond to all media reports.* EXPECTING mothers are being sent back by nurses if they wear trousers when they visit Antenatal Care (ANC) at the Outapi Clinic. We don’t know if there is a policy which prohibits someone from wearing trousers when coming to ANC. Need feedback from Omusati Regional Director.* I DON’T know why there is no development in Khorixas. What are the counsellors doing and where is the money going to? – Lady A* THE drivers of the GRN 16200, a vehicle that is stationed at the Caprivi regional stores under the Ministry of Agriculture, must think and should know that we the taxpayers are feeling the pinch in maintaining GRN vehicles. This car is always driven after hours and is always in funeral and wedding convoys. Now that we are approaching the festive season the abuse will increase. We want the Permanent Secretary of Agriculture to act soon. Some of the staff in the same ministry have to hitch hike to their duty station outside town, while there is a car that’s is solely used for private purposes.
