SMSes of the Day : Friday

SMSes of the Day : Friday

* IT is surprising to learn from the President’s speech on Saturday that the witch-hunt is back again. This time against traditional leaders who use their democratic right to make their political choices. What about the chiefs who were allowed to march in favour of third term for the former President? Why were they not given the same orders to choose between traditional leadership and politics? Is it because the march was in favour of Swapo? Feedback please, Mr President.

* KING Taapopi, I salute you and your wife for publicly taking HIV tests. Let us hope for more leaders following your example of voluntary testing. The nation needs role models among our leaders to fight stigma. Food for thought* DESPITE Zuma’s reputation the important lesson for our African leaders is to please learn to step down when it’s time to go! Sadly Mbeki’s inability to do so left the delegates with no other option but to vote for a man who in their opinion was courageous enough to send Mbeki into forced retirement! Had Mbeki heard the voice of the people, the choice for South Africans would have been wider with the likes of Ramaphosa etc.* WHAT message do Police officers give to the public when they are called to investigate a robbery just to find they also helped themselves to some cash from the already shocked employer in full view of closed-circuit cameras?Politics in general* I KNOW it’s the democratic right of people to form and join political parties, but I don’t see the use of having too many political parties opposing each other. Namibians, please look at good examples like in US, where there are only two political parties and yet they are developed compared to us.* TRUE leaders are only able to finish what they started if they are let to. If only the Father of the Nation had acted professionally like Mandela? Mandela did not take sides, he supported the two candidates and waited for democracy to prevail. If the former president was fair and democratic he won’t have interfered to the extent of firing a person without reasons. So, please don’t ever compare Swapo practices to those in the ANC.* COMPARING Jacob Zuma and HH does not hold water. Supporters of Zuma were not subjected to witch-hunts, victimised, called names and intimidated as was the case with HH supporters. I can’t recall Zuma’s supporters being referred to as enemies and threat to peace and stability. I did not even hear of any suppression.* ZUMA’S political woes in South Africa and those of HH and his supporters in Namibia are totally different and incomparable. In Namibia armoured vehicles were stationed at the place where the congress took place. During the extraordinary congress of 2004 it took almost the whole night to count less than 600 ballots, whereas in SA it took a few hours to count about 4 000 ballots. No one was expelled from the ANC for supporting Zuma, but Nyamu was for backing HH.* WHEN election time comes the President goes on a campaign trail holding many political rallies to inform people to vote for the ruling party, but after elections they don’t care any more with people who voted.* Please, fellow Namibians, there is a difference between king and kingdom. Comerade Shipanga did not talk about the Queen but the kingdom, because there are some elements who came to Oukwanyama kingdom with their politics clouded in tribalism. Nobody is talking about the Queen but the area in which these activities take place.* CAN’T the Oukwanyama Traditional Authority declare Swapo’s Hosea Shipanga persona non grata and order him to leave Oukwanyama?* I WANT to know the policy of the RDP on land redistribution.* THE nation is getting tired of RDP stories. Let the nation unite for peace and stability in the country. We are all aware of your empty promises and self-enrichment strategies. If you have more money build new stadiums, as a political party will not earn you national recognition. When one is tired of politics you should rest and not confuse the nation. These parties will only divide the nation. – Marten* EVERYBODY can see that Swapo continues with its agenda of empty promises, and I am appealing to the nation to be vigilant and take corrective decision if we really want to take this country to a better future. It is true that we have enough resources to develop this country but things always end up with a selected few. How can you develop the country without educated and a healthy nation!* MY advice to RDP is to concentrate on the work at hand and to avoid pointing fingers.* WHAT is wrong with the mighty Swapo! Yesterday it was those reactionaries, RDP, the enemy of peace, now it is the traditional leaders. Wonder who is next?* THE SMS December 19 refers: NSHR office bearers do their work, including participating in call-in programmes, according to the Namibian Constitution and the various international human rights principles, norms and standards as a yardstick. If any NBC programme is ‘abused’, then the broadcaster’s trained staff, managers and policies have to be re-evaluated. Do not blame the callers because they do not manage themselves.Hurricane Katrina* IF prizes were won, Governor Katrina Hanse-Himarwa would walk away with the award for most appearances in media with negative publicity.* I AM a concerned resident of the Hardap Region and am so ashamed by the behaviour of our Governor. Her behaviour is neither honourable nor acceptable for a public figure.* HANSE-Himarwa is a politician like any other, who can make mistakes. Why judge her as if she is perfect. I think this food /wedding issue was her family problem, so leave our Governor alone please. – MH* IS Hurricane Katrina telling the truth by implying that her brawl is an acceptable part of culture? Can the Nama Traditional Authority shed more light on this one?* “THIS normally happens with all NAMA weddings,” said Governor Katrina. Fighting at weddings is never tolerated by any culture. Just join a boxing club.Education* MINISTRY of Education please go to Dagbreek and Môreson schools and see how many kids are put on the waiting list each year. I have repeatedly applied to the schools, but my kid does not get a placement. Please our kids are hungry for education but neglected every year because of limited spaces.* The Namibian of Friday is reaching Eenhana on Saturdays only. Please make sure that it is on time this Friday! We want to see our exam results in time. – Mbedeka yaNepando* I WOULD like to ask the Ministry of Education why it does not release both NSSCH and NSSCO at results at the same time. Aren’t they both marked at the same time? It’s not good to get half your results and wait a long time for the other half. We need our results as soon as possible to apply to tertiary institutions, especially those outside the country. – Fransina* ON behalf of Poly and Unam student loan holders. The Ministry of Education, we need you to settle our accounts before the 2008 registration!* CAN the Ministry of Education tell us why Delta High School is keeping reports of students back despite official directives?* PLEASE, Nantu do something about IOL double deductions from teachers studying with them. Another problem is that we register at the beginning of the year, but only receive our study in November, just before the exams.* MY gratitude to the hostel superintendent of Mwaala SSS. God bless you for your kind Samaritan attitude and keep on your lovely behaviour. – Former student. From the regions* HOW on earth is Elago Combined School being wired up for five years and not connected to the main electricity supply line? Ask the councillor and you will be told the contractor ran away or the budget did not include it. For five financial years without including it in the budget? We are tired of being fooled. This school has grades up to 10.* TWO Keetmanshoop municipal workers are charged for being drunk at municipal year-end party. The question is will the CEO be charged for fighting in public with a resident?* MR Hakaye, the councillor of Okalongo Constituency, we don’t have electricity at Ombwana Combined School and the Community of Oshitalamesho village is drinking muddy wat
er.General* CAN One Africa please limit the number of ads they run while ‘Second Chance’ is playing. The commercials take up too much time I wont be surprised if you end up losing my viewership. I chose you above NBC because I believed in you, so please do not start to let all your viewers down by playing the same ads four or five times in between the programme. It takes up too much time.* I too would like to add to the complaints of Woermann Brock. The one in Damara-Gemengde section of Katutura is selling alcohol on Sundays while it is prohibited. What I want to know is whether they have a special liquor licence then the other retailers, who offer better services to their clients be it town or Katutura.Service please* POOR client services is not only at financial institutions nor at insurance companies. For God sake, visit House and Home Furniture at Wernhil. Their sales reps are very slow and unfriendly. My advice to the area manager is to recruit enough sales reps. And to remind him again to visit his competitors, e.g. Beares Independence, OK Kalahari just to mention a few and see what service is all about .* WHAT is it with MTC? For the whole the week I had to at least dial up to 20 minutes before getting through to the call centre only to be assisted by people who didn’t seem to know what they are doing! Hire more people if you can’t handle the customer base. I know you are able to trace a stolen recharge voucher within minutes but you don’t take interest in really assisting your customers.* MR Jesko Woermann is saying that they spent N$2 million on the Katutura branch, but the shop looks unfinished and very dirty. It also looks like a storeroom/warehouse rather than a supermarket. Please respect us. We are just as valuable customers like your ‘elite’ customers. – Toivo and Theo* WHAT a shame! The Ministry of Mines and Energy under the rural electrification programme constructed a power line all the way from Opuwo to Sesfontein, but to our disappointment this appeared to have been only for the main road into Sesfontein. The actual ministries and resident houses are still not connected we appeal to the relevant authorities to intervene ASAP!* WE, especially black customers, it’s high time that we also learn cleanliness. Those don’t care attitudes also contribute to these conditions.Food for thought * DESPITE Zuma’s reputation the important lesson for our African leaders is to please learn to step down when it’s time to go!
