* I WONDER what is wrong with Namibians? Our nation is becoming less vigilant and finally mute on issues of national concern. Many of the recent practices by our Government are similar, if not worse than those of the colonial regime. For example the abolition of the Oshiwambo Service Open Line etc. Please Namibians wake up and react to autocracy and the power abuse of the ruling elite. Open Line should be re-introduced.

Food for Thought* I HAVE read on occasions about attacks bees and the lucky escape of victims. It could save lives if the readers are educated about escape strategies during such attacks.Note: Can anyone provide information on what one should do?- News Desk* WHO runs Windhoek? The City Council and the residents or MTC?Bouquets and Brickbats* MR Chris Smith. You took the words right out of my mouth. Where to my beloved Namibia? When will our Government and and union leaders learn? Mr President and the ACC (or is it Anti-ACC) have lost the fight against corruption. And please stop. Just like Mr Smith, I am embarrassed to say the least.- Lineekela
* I APPLAUD the superintendent of Oshakati Hospital for his visionary leadership and achievement. It’s a shame that none of the leaders who commissioned the wards mentioned his name and those currently in charge. Appreciation is a motivation. Dr (Richard) Kamwi should know that. The hospital was filthy and staff were unprofessional for many years. Thanks to the current superintendent for the changes. Is it because he is non-Namibian that he can’t be recognised?* TIME to correct the wrong, Channel 107 DStv thank you for showing the life of our Founding Father of the Namibian nation but his name is Sam Nujoma, not Samuel Nujoma. Thank you.* DOG fighting in Oshakati! People can really be low!* MR Noble, owner of the pit bull (terrier) you should be thrown into the lion’s cage!* CHOPPING down our heritage of ancient trees on the roadside between Karibib and Usakos is sacrilege. The contractors obviously don’t care about the destruction of their bulldozers.- Colleen* WHAT happened to talk show on Radio 99? I want an answer please!Traffic TalesSafety should come first* AN increase in traffic fines is an increase in the bribes they receive so they can have a lekker December. No one pays those fines. A lot of people rather pay bribes and move on. Why not introduce a points system like in many countries where one could lose their licence after accumulating a number of points. Money should not be the driving force because we know it ends up in pockets. Safety should come first.* SHARP increases in traffic fines will equal sharp increases in bribe money. Well done and just before Xmas!GIPP Saga* THE Swapo Government is taking away the nation’s right to democracy. Why are they against the demonstration about GIPF? They should remember that it is the people who put them in power and therefore they should keep their threats for themselves. Power belongs to the nation. Let us save our beloved country. We love you (Evilastus) Kaaronda!* COME on Namibians. It is a joke of the year to appoint the Auditor General to head the GIPF audit. Wait and see the outcome. It will be an embarrassment. Namibian civil servants wake up and smell the coffee.- Iipinge, Okahao.* CIVIL servants, our unions are useless. They are unable to represent us the workers who are paying their salaries. Civil servants please wake up and let’s unite.- Rona, Windhoek* PUPPETS, that’s what they are, the leaders of the unions. Who do they think they are? Do they think the masses are stupid to wait until after the elections. Let’s do it ourselves. We do not need their leadership anymore. Let’s campaign among ourselves comrades. We can’t let them and our own Government keep us hostage. We did it with the apartheid government who were brutal. The time for action is now. We need other leaders who listen to the electorate. Viva the workers.- Kole
Election Fever* OPPOSITION parties please wake up and stop the blatant bias of NBC! Why don’t you for instance appoint an expert to daily record NBC coverage of all political parties’ activities during the run-off to the elections and expose the NBC for what it is?* HOW does the Electoral Commission of Namibia plan to contribute to uplifting the living standards of the unemployed if they appoint a person from Tsumkwe and refer him/her to Grootfontein for training without food or accommodation provided and with a warning that they will be replaced immediately if they fail to report on time? Is it constitutional to oppress the poor to the extreme? Was it really necessary to put such hostile conditions? Is there an hidden agenda?Politics* SWAPO Party Youth League’s Elijah Ngurare said in Keetmanshoop: ‘We do not want alcohol here.’ Sir please repeat that all over Namibia. Also look at the owners of most alcohol shops; they aren’t white! Thanks.* IT’S sad that the majority of Namibians vote for a political party which doesn’t stop corruption, favours the Chinese above Namibians, ignore peoples’ plight yearly and makes empty promises.Running the Show* MINISTRY of Youth, those of us who were born in the country during the liberation struggle were asked to submit our details and jobs of preference, where did you take this information? Mr Frans Kapofi please answer us now!Business as Usual* HI management of Rossing Mine. Please bring back the Driver of the Year competition.Health Matters* THE Ministry of Health, we want a New Start Centre here in Okahao. Please do something. We are travelling a long distance from Okahao to Oshakati.* THE Ministry of Health should replace the management at the Katutura Hospital with immediate effect. The hospital is dirty and smells worse than a rubbish dump. The list continues. Please give us people who are visionary, not deadwood. The nation expects a lot from us and we should not fail them.Education* MINISTERS of Education is World Teachers Day only mean for Nantu members? Because the T-shirts printed for that event were given only to Nantu members at various schools in the Erongo region. And Justice for All* PLEASE impose stiffer sentences on those committing robberies and cutting safes (open) with cutting torches. In and From the Regions* POLITICAL and traditional leaders of Karasburg Constituency please be so kind and connect the power supply of Warmbad reserve as a Christmas gift to the poorest of the poor.* PLEASE our council at Omundaungilo we want NamPost. Look at the old people travelling from Omundaungilo to Eenhana. Please council do something.NBC* NBC TV why we are paying TV licences. Your channel has been down since last Thursday in Outapi. When are you are going to bring it back?- From OutapiService Please* WHAT is the use of MTC having a customer care call service if we cannot get through on their line. It happened that when I registered for Aweh on November 8. I could not enter all my best friend’s numbers due to the malfuctioning of their system. I work in a rural area. I tried to call their customer care centre but all my efforts were in vain. My number is 081-285-9160.* SERVICE station owners – why are products sold at your places so expensive?* HOME Affairs is definitely a joke! Tried to re-register my baby on her father’s surname after we got married. For weeks later they couldn’t find the documents and then they realised they treated it like an adoption. On none of the forms was it ever indicated as one! Can someone please sort this out?- DesperateACC Alert* CAN the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigate the Unam refund of students loan? How can they say the money will be sent back to the Ministry of Education while the students have to pay back upon completion of their studies.- Nico* PLEASE ACC at Keetmanshoop go and investigate the traffic office. Some people get a driving licence without driving. Please.Responses to recent SMSes* IN response to the SMS about Home Affairs officials not doing their job they are hired for. It’s good and well to complain about Home Affairs and I don’t agree with the SMS. I am pretty sure that when you go and ask about your citizenship, it is that you still need to bring outstanding documents or you simply don’t qualify. Stop seeing officials in a bad light and take the trouble to go and find out. We have got heads of divisions in case your questions can’t be answered at the counter.
