* I WOULD love to thank the three guys who saved my life at around 21h00 on Wednesday, September 16, when I was being robbed in Hochland Park. Even though I didn’t recover any of my goods, I’m really grateful for you helping me out. I don’t know what would happened to me if it were not for you guys. Thank you so much. Stay blessed.
– Rakkel
Food For Thought* IT is generally believed that politics is about forming ideals and persuading others to agree with those ideals and at the end of the day representing the people who share such ideals. It’s about gaining power through the trust given by the people and using that very same power to achieve the very ideals which form the basis of the support given by the people. However, sadly, most politicians seek power because of greed, ego, and have no long-term plan for the nation to better ourselves but a short-term agenda to enrich themselves. Currently most of them are on outreach missions campaigning for their political parties in the guise of their parties’ election manifestos, but in reality politics to these politicians is about themselves and nothing more. We have witnessed this for over 18 years now. When can we get honest and well-intentioned political leaders who would take us out of the doldrums of under development?Mind the ditch* I WAS stunned to see a person actually riding a bicycle and typing a text message at the same time, on one of the busiest roads in Swakop. I just hope it wasn’t for your SMS page.Chinese Scholarships* CORRUPTION? What corruption? Rich richer, poor poorer. ACC please investigate the Chinese scholarship granting procedures followed. Culprits to be brought to book. Enough of the cow milking approach now. We as a nation with integrity and ethics are really tired now. This type of practice must stop with immediate effect. Namibia is for us all. No one has more right to resources than the other. We all need to benefit regardless of our status, ethnicity, colour or political affiliation.* WE have many on the streets with adequate points, but no funds to pay institution fees. While daughters and sons of presidents, ministers and all those high-class people are given scholarships. Please you people of Namibia, you must be ethical.* TO the youth of Namibia, while you are waving flags and dancing at rallies the Government’s top officials are getting the best education in China with the scholarships which were supposed to be for the disadvantaged students.* PLEASE leaders of this nation, stop corruption. Why is the President’s daughter and other minister’s sons given the scholarships? Does it mean that there were no other students from poor families or what? Respect others, count our values too.- Julia Nghaamwa, Polytech* WELL, corruption is now so entrenched in Namibia that leaders don’t even see it anymore. It has long been alleged, but of course always denied, that Government bursaries are reserved for one group. When are the poor and marginalised ever going to be advanced? * WHY are top officials’ children being given priority? * MINISTERS, even our President who promised to fight corruption is also involved in grabbing scholarships meant for the poor. With all the high salaries and benefits that we pay them, they are still grabbing opportunities from us? Bouquets And Brickbats* ONCE again Frank Fredericks makes Namibia proud. We must learn from his dedication to athletics and in making the world better. www.namstreetathletics.blogspot.com* THANKS for the lovely SMS page that you introduced. It’s very informative and one can express one’s view. Keep up the good work!- Swakopmund Namibian reader* THANK you to the NBC gentleman who helped the lady in Shoprite from being robbed. So many Namibians will watch crimes but never help! They must know that they are also guilty before God. * THANK you The Namibian. Discrimination against black clients of FNB has been going on for long especially when it comes to credit facilities. But it’s not only FNB but other banks as well.* THE abbreviation, GRN, is only applicable when referring to vehicle registration! Please, Namibians.* BEING a proud client of Standard Bank and dedicated reader of The Namibian, can you please explain why the ad on the last page of October 12 had the colour of a competitor’s bank? Is SBN no longer Blue Blood?- Disappointed True Blue* I WANT to ask the Namibian people to please respect the culture and traditions of others. Like I saw someone wearing a Herero traditional dress made with the material of another culture. And other people making tops and shorts of the same material. I love my culture and if we keep on doing this, Namibian culture and tradition will slowly and surely die. If people won’t stop then the government must bring in a law about this. – Young and worried citizen* SATURDAY morning, Eros. A woman roams the streets in civilian clothes, carrying an AK-47. What is our country coming to? However, congratulations to NamPol and City Police for quick responses and good service! * I AM interested as to what criteria you use when selecting short messages to be published? Last week I forwarded a short text message encouraging coloureds/kleurlinge to vote in the coming elections. Instead you chose to publish a less sensible short message about Namibia getting liberated by the Cold War.- Christy Krohne* I HAVE been watching the fashions on TV. Surely no one takes them seriously? Ridiculous outfits. Strange walks and stances and deadpan faces? I thought models were beautiful and elegant with good deportment. Not any more.* NBC TV, please give us sport on a Saturday afternoon, and not boring news.Politics* SWAPO is our party but the information is not reaching us. Why? Deaf people also need all information like all other Namibians. President (Hifikepunye) Pohamba please tell all candidates to have sign language interpreters at all rallies.- Tega Abner Sheya (deaf)* ALLOW me a space to express my disappointment regarding our high-ranking Government officials. Hate speeches are being made, they grab educational scholarships offered by China for their relatives and victimise people joining political parties of their choice. Where is the democracy they claim? They (leaders) should fight corruption, unemployment and improve poor education and health services.- Karel I Musenge, Kavango* THOSE who propagate hate speech towards anybody need to repent and publicly apologise to the nation. We’re all God’s creation. Love your enemy, the Bible says. – Pastor Ben AraebElection Fever* I DON’T hear ECN officials educating people on how to vote, except in the North. Are they the only ones to vote? Pull up your socks, time is against us. Don’t assume that we all know how and where to put a cross. We got new voters recently who need your assistance.* MOST of us true and genuine Namibians are behind democracy and transparency rather than corruption! Thanks to the ECN for reversing the Namprint tender! Namibia belongs to us all!* WELL done ECN. This is what democracy is all about. Everybody should have a fair chance. – Tobias* CONGRATS to the Electoral Commission of Namibia for making Namibian people happy by not allowing NamPrint to print ballots. Now speak out on the electoral violence.- Ndahafa* SUDDENLY the voters roll dropped by 150 000 voters while new voters increased from 290 000 to 306 842. We are in for a big rig.* FIGHTING the ECN on the printing of the ballot papers. Thanks to a new generation of young leaders in the opposition. Keep it up young men, we don’t have to take this nonsense. R.I.P.* A LEADER of the calibre of Reverend (Hendrik) Witbooi has yet to be born when it comes to his human relations and modesty. We salute you comrade Witbooi. May your soul rest in peace. – Mr N Cooper (Hoachanas)* I WAS fortunate to watch the tribute of the late Rev H Witbooi on NBC on Friday, he was truly a great leader with a sense of humour. Rest in Peace Comrade and Oupa. * JUDGE Ndauendapo and entire family may God bless you during this time. May the beautiful memories of your mother put smiles on your faces through your tears. God be with you all! And Justice For All* I PROPOSE a jail sentence of 40 years to life for drugs offenders. This will discourage the drug lords and kingpins from using Namibia as a easy destination to transport these dangerous substances. Evil practices such as these destroy our future leaders. – Pastor Ben Araeb City Fathers,Please …* CAN the City health inspectors pay a visit to Ombili Woermann please. * CITY of Windhoek investigate this matter please. My water comes to N$4 224 to N$5 000 in a month and my house is in Wanaheda area. It is possible?- You might have a broken underground pipe on your yard. Please have it checked out before you run up huge debts. A leak inside your yard is your liability. – Newdesk* CITY of Windhoek, introduce strict laws concerning noise pollution from neighbours with shebeens. They play their music so loud, it’s hard to live in some parts of Katutura. Please! It’s out of hand!- Very frustrated Katutura residentGeneral* MTC and LEO: You must help to keep the streets clean from your products. How? Let unemployed people collect the used cards and hand them in for a cash amount. Please.Namibia’s new State House* IT costs Government N$1 500 000 000 to build the State House and other monuments. I admit these buildings are stunning but this money could send 10 000 students to qualify professionally and could earn about N$3 trillion over the next 30 years. Maybe then Vision 2030 is possible.* IN response to the SMS in The Namibian of October 15 about Chinese Super Slim capsules. My friend and I have been using it since last year without any side effects.- That may be. But perhaps it would be wise to go online and read the warnings posted there. – Newsdesk* NAMIBIAN Government, why do you ban smoking only? You must also ban the use of alcohol in public places, please. Most crimes in our country are alcohol-related, not cigarette-related! * I’M looking for a charity organisation where I can work for charity. Please The Namibian find out for me.Health Issues* NEVER mind liberation, what about the lifts that don’t work and the cockroaches in Katutura State Hospital? That’s real and that’s now. * I SPENT an hour in the Katutura Hospital on Tuesday. I climbed the stairs together with many other people. It’s good for the Government that Namibians are tolerant. I am sick of hearing ministers talking of progress and development. Do they ever leave their offices and join ordinary people? Do they smell the coffee?Education* PLEASE Mr Principal do something at Omukwiyugwemanya SSS. We need jackets and ties. We want to look good like other schools e.g. Oshigambo High School. If there are no obstacles, why can’t you increase the school fund. No hostels, no halls. There are computers, but few learners use them. We need changes please.- Former learner* SOMEBODY recently wrote an SMS in The Namibian and asked why NTA always makes use of consultants. This is the same scenario in most SOEs of the Ministry of Education. For example NQA has had a full-time consultant for about five years now. And I read in the Observer that NCHE wants to hire one (short term) to look into the Polytechnic being called a University. Please MoE let us start saving resources. We all know there is no law to prevent a person from opening a ‘university’. There is a private university already called ‘International University of Management’, which is accredited by NQA, it was not created by an act. So it’s just a simple decision we don’t need consultants. Of course I am also not a supporter of PoN’s bid (argument) to become university as Polytechnics in such countries as Finland offer recognised PHDs. In most industrialised countries both institutions exist, the difference in being called a university is, it must provide courses/programmes in most if not all academic fields. In fairness to PoN, Unam and IUM are also not on that level yet. Point is we don’t need consultants, please!Service Please* WHAT happened to the classifieds page in The Namibian newspaper. Don’t they advertise animals for sale? Rotweilers, pit bulls for sale? Anyone please?* SERVICE please FNB. All the Bob machines in central were off on Friday at around 10h00. How do you expect people to survive a long queue inside the bank with massive bank charges? In And From The Regions* SOME schools east of Okongo are like the Big Brother show where you go for fun. When exams are going to be the same as for learners in Windhoek, it will be even more fun. As teachers there we don’t have enough books or study aids. No bush allowance, no cellphone network, no radio or TV coverage let alone potable water.* I WAS stunned to see a person actually riding a bicycle and typing a text message at the same time, on one of the busiest roads in Swakop. I just hope it wasn’t for your SMS page.* CAN the Government please allow the Erindi farmer to come and relocate Damaraland desert elephants to his game farm. They will be of good use there. These animals are undermining our struggle to make a living out of farming. They kill our people, damage our agricultural infrastructure etc.- Herman* I DON’T agree with the idea of speed bumps in the small settlement along the main road. SMS dated September refers. I suggest that people not to build close to the road or to build their cuca shops on one side of the road only, or will soon driving 60 km/h from Oshivelo to Oshikango and to Ruacana. Government your opinions please! * GOBABIS Municipality CEO, can you tell the nation why: 1) You don’t allow street vendors? 2) Why you don’t provide basic services to squatters who can afford them? The rate of poverty at Gobabis is so high yet you are doing nothing, what a shame.Sporting* TODAY many will ask what happened to Tigers? I can tell you it is about the coach. If you count new players in the team there are not more than five (5). The first thing that changes is the players’ attitude, the management of team, motivation to the players as well clear instructions and their roles. Well done coach Brian and all the best to the players!- From S’bala coach, PRO Lost And FoundI LOST a medical report and a Nigerian passport number A00059093. If found please contact 081-129-3643.- Femi* I LOST my driving licence three weeks ago in Windhoek. My name is Mathilda Ndjoze. Please call me on 081-407-6300. Thank you.
