SMS Of The Day
Happy Independence Day
HAPPY 21st Independence Anniversary, Namibia. May we ALL put hands together to ensure that Namibia is fully developed for the good of all regardless of colour, race, tribe, ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, sex, status and any other differences. Above all we are all Namibians. Let us show love to one another and have regard for one another. Namibians, let us all work hard and make a difference. We can do it. God bless the Land of the Brave and all its inhabitants.
Food for Thought*LAWMAKERS introduce a law to deport convicted criminals, the ones with permanent permits. One warning then back to the country of origin please!Bouquets and Brickbats*WE have just greatly enjoyed a trip into Namibia from South Africa, mostly in the coastal area from Walvis Bay to Cape Cross, and including trips into the desert and round Walvis harbour and bay, and seeing the German architecture in Swakop, and the museum and doing some fishing. All in all a most worthwhile and enjoyable holiday. However, I would like to say we did not enjoy the litter in some parts of the beach, especially at Mile 30 and in parts of the desert as we approached Swakop. It spoilt what is a most beautiful country, quite apart from damaging the eco-structure.*THE Friday edition of The Namibian is always a treat, providing informative and entertaining reading for the weekend and beyond. A cherry on the cake, Madam and Eve. To the end of 2010, and again last Friday, my favourite cartoon was missing. Come on! And what about the word competition? A Friday Namibian without those is not a Namibian.Note: All the word games and Madam and Eve were in The Weekender last Friday and all the Fridays before that this year. We didn’t have it in the last week of 2010. We just did not have space as we did the Best and Worst of 2010.- Supplements Department*ANDRA Kisting well done for your significant contribution on ‘Good Morning Namibia. It’s a pity we have a few of your calibre.Rest in Peace
*WE are shocked by the sudden death of Mr Laurentius Humphries while in the line of duty. He will be missed by the soccer fraternity. We in Blue Waters extend our sincere heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and to his colleagues. May his soul rest in eternal peace.Happy 21st Anniversary*THE non-Swapo Party residents of Rehoboth who attended Independence in Rehoboth would like to thank the elected Swapo leaders for not wearing their Swapo attire at the Independence celebrations in Rehoboth. You have showed that it is a national event.*CONGRATULATIONS to the nation that at 21 years is at peace. However people like Kilus Nguvauva are playing a dangerous game to erode our reconciliaton. Where was he when Derks took in the San children that had been worked out of Hippo school on racial grounds?*HAPPY 21st Independence celebrations, long live Our Republic. It is a disturbing fact that our Government seems to be in full support of African dictators like Muammar Gaddafi. The fact is that in Namibia, democracy is just a lip service. Let’s pray to God that none of our men or women in uniform will be sent there to bolster that dictator and his cronies. Thanks Nato for the quick response. Gone are the days for the Miloshevics.*WE have achieved much in 21 years. Unfortunately we lost the edge we had with excellent medical service and quality education. Instead of building on those pillars to make it equally available to all, we had to first destroy the foundations. With leaders like Abraham Iyambo we have a chance of gaining success. Thank you to Dr Aune Victor for her insightful article.Suggestions Box*EMPLOYMENT creation in urban areas, diversify the manufacturing sector, schools for older people, create a service delivery programme to match that of South Africa, in private and public sector, buy shares in mining companies, so if profits/dividends get paid out, the Government coffers increase, so they can decrease tax. Therefore allow the spending capacity of people to increase, thus create increased demand for goods and services, thus more employment, thus a rise in income groups, thus a decrease in poverty, thus Vision 2030.Our Changing World*DEAR Mr President, I love and respect you a lot. Unless I missed it, I did not hear you condemning Gaddafi in the strongest words when he said he will show no mercy to his people. He insults his people all day long as rats and under the influence of drugs. His human rights record is amongst the poorest but he gives money to many other African presidents. Now that the so-called imperialists are responding to the call of his unarmed population and the Arab League, you are calling us to condemn that in the strongest words. What morality are you teaching us? That Gaddafi has the right of life and death over his people (more than 600 000 in Benghazi) and that he can massacre them if they challenge his God-given power? Is Gaddafi worth more than 600 000 souls because he is an African president or gives money to other murderers like him? Please clarify for me and for those who like me are wondering. With love and respect.War in the desert.*ON the statement by President Pohamba condemning European forces for striking Muammar Gaddafi forces to stop using heavy weapons against defenceless Libyan people for demonstrating against his 41-year-long dictatorship rule, Pohamba should be ashamed of himself after he and his counterparts of the African Union failed to stop Gaddafi from killing Libyan people. Pohamba and his African counterparts have been supporting the killing of defenceless Libyan people and now that the European forces came to their rescue he is crying crocodile tears. Pohamba must stop fooling us as he is continuing to fool us with his Chinese invasion in Namibia.*WHEN Gaddafi kills, no African leader dare to open his/her mouth but now that our European and Western brothers came to rescue the Libyans from the hands of their bloodthirsty leader, our President condemns these actions. That’s nothing but blatant hypocrisy.*I CANNOT believe Pohamba! First he criticises Namibians for taking a stand against the exploitative Chinese and now he is against the coalition freeing Libya? It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and criticise! What action have they taken to address any of the issues!*WHEN will the US stop getting involved in the affairs of sovereign states? Look what’s happening in Iraq today? The US has lots of internal problems to deal with and should stay put.*THE US military invasion in Libya is uncalled for and disturbing. It is for Libya’s oil. The reasons given for invading the sovereign country do not hold water – utter rubbish!*WHY are African leaders quiet in regarding the development of war in Libya. The western invasion is against the sovereignty, the integrity of Libya, and of Africa in general.*AFRICAN leaders are sick. The AU wants the no-fly zone tactic to stop hours after it started. Yet they said not a single word when Gaddafi killed his own people like flies for weeks.*THANKS Julius Malema, the only African person to first voice his condemnation on this fake or false no fly-zone against Libya. Shame on all African leaders.*THE USA, France and the UK were supposed to think peacefully and take a peaceful action but not military actions. They are not protecting but they are killing, destroying Libya socially and economically.*CAMERON, Obama and their sidekicks in Europe should be dragged before an International Court of Justice to be tried for mass murder and all other crimes against humanity for what they did and still doing in Libya, Afghanistan and all other areas of conflict created by their governments. Africa my Africa for how long?Business as Usual*MR President, the South African companies that are based in Namibia are operating according to the Namibian labour laws but the Chinese are not. They are exploiting us with our degrees but we are paid unbelievable salaries that I am scared to mention. Please investigate those companies – don’t just ignore our complaints. We know what we are complaining about.*WHEN did we exempt the Chinese from Namibian laws? Why should the head of state defend the law disobedient foreigners?*THE Chinese like any other foreign businesses must adhere to the law of the state but if it was not for them where would the 51% jobless Namibian be buying goods if we can’t afford our own Etunda produced food. Pep is more expensive than the Chinese. Indians sell second hand in every town while Portuguese sell pap+vleis lunch packs at various outlets. Why single out only the Chinese?*WHO can help me understand why Namib Mills has total control over the flour and wheat market in Namibia and the management sit on the Agri Board that polices this situation? With world food prices rising all the time, the mill is approx U$300 per metric tonne more expensive than the vessel being shipped to Walvis Bay. I understand employment is being created but at the same time if flour was being imported there would be labour introduced to the companies involved in the redistribution of wealth where the select few make fortunes and the masses are paying for this. I am sure this might make sense if you looked into it.General
*THE tsunami has killed many thousands, the nukes maybe two. And car accidents kill more people each year in Namibia than those killed in all nuke accidents that ever happened.City Fathers Please…*DEAR City Fathers. Many thanks for covering the potholes in Diamant Street. Now the sidewalks. Thanks again.*COULD the Municipality please do something about the security guards at Rocky Crest shebeen close to the park that use the open space next to house 1232 to urinate. Don’t they have toilets? In and From the Regions*THE Ministry of Environment a brick maker and construction company are abusing harvesting sand from the Okavango River. Please do something before it is too late and regulate this practice.*KEETMANSHOOP Town Council members do not even have tertiary qualifications except for 2 councillors. How does one expect for the council to lead Keetmanshoop town?Education*CONGRATULATIONS Dr Abraham Iyambo for the work that you are doing for our Ministry. Keep it up and visit all the schools in the Tsumkwe area also.
*DR Iyambo we the teachers of Erongo are working on time on our tasks in Erongo, even two extra hours after school. We want our salaries on time too! The salary office is not doing their job.*DEAR Dr Iyambo, we the home science graduate teachers are sitting without posts. What are we trained for and why does the Ministry of Education offer this field in the institutions? Please Dr Iyambo introduce home science in schools.*DR Iyambo can you clarify why the Ministry of Education refused to pay for Belvedere and Mutare students to repeat their final academic year which they have failed 2010? Yet it has been paying for the repeaters since the Zimbabwe/Namibia programme came into operation in 2003. Why do you not want to pay for the last group of repeaters? Please Dr Iyambo and Dr Namwandi do something for the students.*DEAR Minister Iyambo of Education, what are the duties of the HoDs especially in lower primary? Are they just administrators or should they not have classes?*MINISTRY of Education, former Ondangwa West region. We are working in the harsh conditions. The premises are full of big holes resulting in water flowing in and no parking at all. Offices are without Internet. Cleaners are not monitored to ensure cleanliness. Dustbins are full for months without being emptied and there is so much bush. How can one work and have peace of mind?*IUM please refund us. We are the June intake third year. Until now we have not received anything. Please we don’t have enough materials and we want to do our assignments too. We are almost at our final exam!*DR Abraham Iyambo come and look at the Ompundja road. We have to drive through deep water in order to go to schools. We end up repairing our vehicles with the little salary we get and hardly remain with something. We really don’t look forward to a new day at school. Hear our cry.Health Matters*DEAR Dr Kamwi you were given enough money to renovate clinics. Please do something about the Masokotwani clinic in the Katima Rural Constituency. The clinic is just one room. There’s no storage for the medicine and only 1 bed for those who are sick to rest.Law and Order*KILUS Nguvauva has to be charged with hate speech! His threats are as empty as his portfolio! Why after 21 years does he still call on the race card when he does not get his way? Childish!*’AS Namibians we should be very careful of what we say in public. Once we start bringing uncertainty amongst commercial farmers, there will be less investment in the agricultural industry,’ Chrispin Matongela, spokesperson at the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement. So their (Ministry of Lands) interest is protecting the insecurities of historically thieving commercial farmers at the expense of the aspirations and needs of the masses and the marginalised members of society? The thinking Namibians are aware that views of spokespersons are those of institutions that pay their salaries. Since we are not told otherwise, the Ministry is of the view as stated by its commentator. Now we are sure that when one gets a farm, as the case with many bureaucrats and politicians, the expropriation of land becomes a non issue. I am not sure if we can fully realise the national democratic revolution with ideologically unemancipated commentators. Who between the San and foreigners? Namibia my motherland, sad!Labour Issues*UNEMPLOYMENT is rising in Namibia, Namibians are being retrenched and the foreign people are still on the job. Namibian board members help your people.*MINISTRY of Finance publish a leaflet showing amounts to be paid as PAYE compared to the salaries like SSC is doing. Your information is hidden, it is not open to employees.NBC*PLEASE NBC stop inviting Dr Ben Mulongeni to ‘The Week That Was’, his comments are not well informed. I doubt his ability in every topic. Please Help*IGSC – what are these people doing opposite Maerua Mall, what are they building and digging for? Why is there security and why are they not sharing with the public? Does our Government know what is going on there, are they involved?*PLEASE, I am fourth year trainee in the field of land design in Mauritius, so I want to feel proud of our Land of the Brave like you people here at home. Where can I get a Namibian flag please. 0813487297.Sporting*MR Brian Isaaks should look to young players like Frans Fannie Matheus who plays for Blue Boys. He is a brilliant player and deserves to be nominated for the national team.Lost and Found*FOUND Namibian passport of Helma Zaamuani born 1 July 1977. Please call 081-219-0933.Response to recent SMS*I AGREE Miss SA should concentrate on her own country. There is more than enough to keep her busy…
