Food For Thought•WHY is Nabta so quiet while the nation is held hostage by taxi drivers who are involved in robberies, housebreaking, etc. Taxi owners please dismiss these criminals, they are tarnishing your image.
Politics• NAMIBIANS, heed the reality. I am always shocked by some individuals, through the SMS column, criticising ‘the Founding Father’ for no contingent reasons. I would advise that whoever did or plans to do so, must take into account that s/he does so because of Dr Sam Nujoma and others who liberated Namibia and guaranteed freedom of speech. I fully agree nobody, neither those who openly deplored this fact, want to employ lazy people. So, if you are one of the lazy/unproductive civil servants in Namibia please retire before you derail the socio-economic progress in our Land of the Brave. – Stephen Gervasius, Outapi
•TELLING people to tell our Founding Father to retire from politics for telling the 1960s story is a ‘disrespect’. I think we all have grandparents at home, in the communities. Can we tell them to keep quiet when they tell us about politics? We are proud to hear the history from our parents.- AKA B Shikesho•PEOPLE, Dr Nujoma retired almost five years ago. He has the right to express himself as a citizen. It’s time we start making peace with ourselves as individuals! •I AM disappointed with (Elijah) Ngurare’s comments. How can he criticise an event that is being supported by the incumbent and founding Presidents? This shows a total disrespect and disregard to the people in authority. (President Hifikepunye) Pohamba you must act. As a youth I have no interest in future of Swapo being led by people who have no manners. – P****d Off.•MR Ngurare wake up. You are saying taxpayers’ money is used to criticise the Swapo-led government. It is right that my money, as a taxpayer, is used to point out the mistakes the government is making. Not all taxpayers are Swapo members.Youth•IT is not urgent to have compulsory National Youth Service in Namibia. What is very important is to make Grade 10 and 12 compulsory. This will add value to the money spent on education. – Twabushalila•I AM very upset to hear how leaders attack each other. I would like to tell (Elijah) Ngurare, that the compulsory youth service is a great idea, and if it was already put forward, why was it never done. I would like to congratulate Ms (Veronica) de Klerk, for helping the youth, we are behind you, all the way! •MR Ngurare leave Mrs De Klerk alone. Stop making personal attacks and deal with the issues. If SPYL failed to get the youth service message across maybe it’s because the SPYL leadership is not capable. Look at the struggle kids and see if your leadership is capable of finding a solution that will please the struggle kids and the whole nation at large.- Lalengwa Bouquets And Brickbats•WINDHOEK City Police. Please use other techniques. Seems you are trigger happy. More than 10 bullets for a handbag. Lives lost. Thought cowboy days were over. •THIS is always what I wanted to see in this paper. The fixtures and the football results like they appear now. Thank you Corry (Ihuhua). You got me now.•WHY is it that The Namibian newspaper is so quick at publishing the spelling errors around Windhoek when they ignore their own mistakes? According to Friday’s newspaper Chelsea lost 1 – 0 to Barcelona. It doesn’t mean that if you hate the mighty Chelsea then you have to give wrong results. It was a 1-all draw, dearests. – Arsenal fan* Oops. Sorry. The score line in the caption was incorrect. The story was correct. Yes, it was a 1-1 draw. Of course, on the away-goal advantage Barcelona won by a goal. We don’t ignore our own mistakes and we don’t hate Chelsea! – Sportsdesk•THANK you MTC once again. You really value your customers. But don’t you think the next beneficiaries for the 3G broadband must be teachers? •MS Mara Baumgarten’s Salt and Pepper programme is good but the co-presenter is blasphemous. He calls himself Tate Kalunga which means God, the Father. He should be sensitive to religion and respect our language.- Steven H General•CAN I please have the Legal Assistance Centre number and the Ombudsman’s number. * The Legal Assistance Centre is Windhoek (061) 223356 and the Office of the Ombudsman (061) 2073111. – Newsdesk•TO the Ministry of Home Affairs, banks, insurance companies and other corporates: can you please print our telephone numbers on our membership cards. •THE Government should stop its double standards. One day we are told that there is no ancestral land in Namibia. The next day we are told that Nyae-Nyae was declared an ancestral area for the San people. All Namibians should be treated equally. •WHEN will the next registration for elections be? Most people attending this kind of course are individuals. We cannot afford cash at once.•IF corporal punishment is legal then child abuse is also legal. Why is the Government ignoring this? We children feel as if apartheid exists in schools. – Diego Gonzaléz Rodriguez

Labour Issues•ALLOW me to have a space in the newspaper. The City of Windhoek is still using the colonial regime’s constitution whereby employees are forced to work from 04h00 to 20h00. If you complain, they say you must resign if you are not happy with your work. Injuries on duty are not considered. Salaries do not increase. Solid waste management in the City does not comply with national laws. WE all do the same jobs. No difference between casual and permanents. We casuals also work on holidays but the money stays the same. No increase. Please help us. We want to become permanents! We have been used enough.•PLEASE Minister of Labour protect us from poverty. We are working at a fast-food store. Three of us have been there for three years as casuals and two of us for eight months. Are we not supposed to become permanent after three months?
