NAMIBIA, get the message behind Europe trying to tap into Sahara sun for electricity. We have the Namib and the Kalahari. We have roughly nine months a year with hardly any clouds. Try to forge alliances with European and American donors and make Namibia a ‘solar power’ and energy independent.

Food for Thought* IT’S a shame! Whenever there is a debate in parliament about domestic violence, (some) male parliamentarians are always joking and laughing. It is very painful to us victims.Bouquets and Brickbats* I ADMIRE the logic of investigation I read about in The Namibian, dated July 15, regarding the multi-million dollars scam. Looking on the affidavit of ACC Chief Investigator, Nelius Becker, as outlined in The Namibian, it really shows dignity and professionalism. Keep up the good work.- Alex* IT’S time that we should give credit were it’s due. Mr Norman Tjombe of LAC in my opinion you deserve 100 per cent credit man. I have never seen you being biased. You are always tackling issues. You do not mix issues with politics. Viva Norman long live your wisdom. If you want to know why I compliment him visit any library and read all the statements issued to the media by the LAC.- Williward ‘Innocent’ Narib, Swakopmund* NBC National Radio, your feedback in the New Era is good, but we want to see most of the questions asked by the producers, not just long responses. We want to see how these people got to those answers they are giving. Keep it up, aluta Open Line and Feedback. – Joe Obama* THUMBS up to Norman Tjombe and McHenry Venaani. Were have they been? These are people that will and are in the process of bringing change to this country. – Rehabeam* THE current debate on bank charges must also include rate and taxes on land by municipalities. It does not make sense at all! We salute that move. – LutherHappy Birthday* HAPPY birthday Kuku Pupkewitz on your 94 birthday anniversary, may God bless you Kuku, give you strength and many many years ahead to direct us into positive and constructive directions.Scanners* WHICH bank was used to facilitate the transactions of Teko to this magnitude? Did it perhaps not contravene the law in terms of the Financial Intelligence Act?- HorstGeneral* I JUST want to tell clothing store owners to instruct their security guards to check every lady who comes out of a shop with a jacket over her arm because on July 15, I saw a smartly-dressed lady in Edgars stealing a jacket and walking past two security guards with the jacket over her arm at the eastern entrance. (Salon and Style side).
* ISSUE of the 41 refugees. They left the camp to hide in Windhoek for almost a month and the Minister of Home Affairs was unaware! In other words the Commissioner for Refugees, the camp administrator and the Minister herself did not do their job. * ARE we now a colony of China? The Chinese are getting all the tenders, they don’t adhere to the Labour Law, they sell trains who do not fit our tracks, not to mention that these trains were and still are mechanically dysfunctional. Oh and the cherry on the cake, let’s give them 120 million pasella for scanners that are most likely not going to work. Namibians please wake up! Our government is selling our country at a cost that is only benefiting a few. There will be nothing left for our children and their children.* I KNOW how women feel about the dumping of innocent babies by their mothers after giving birth. It’s known to all that sex without protection is dangerous. We need to educate the girls not to jump in bed with every man. Doesn’t make sense to go around the problem and not tackle the root cause of the problem.- Charlie* THE cost of bringing fuel to Namibia is high because we don’t produce it here. But the GRN manages to drop the price sometimes and yet we received more rain water the price should be fair. Namwater and the municipality should consider bringing down price of water when there is abundant rainfall. Just like oil, they are all God given natural resources. Please Help!* ON Saturday there was a break-in at my house, the robbers stole, amongst others, the quilt (big hand made blanket) my mother made for me when I was born, on it is my name embroidered: Daleen. It means the world to me. I reported the case to the police, but the officer laughed at me when I asked whether there is a chance that I will find my quilt. So I am asking the people of Windhoek to help me find my quilt. If anyone sees it, phone me please, 081-418-4908, a reward is offered. Health Matters* OH gosh, Ministry of Health must be serious here. I brought my child who was sick and vomiting from the school and went there where I was told to wait for an hour because nurses are on lunch. A big state hospital like Rundu. Authority concerned please look into this issue urgently.* HE said it is his right as a human to go to town and nobody can stop him. At weekends you find some of these patients under the influence of alcohol. Cleaners who clean the Kondja ward bring empty alcohol bottles out of the ward. These MDR patients had a free passport to town, to go and infect other innocent people. On weekends taxis pick them up at the back of the gate, after the sister has gone home.City Fathers Please…* IT’S amazing how the City of Windhoek board can approve such a budget. Automatically pushing the unjustifiable spending of millions on to us residents. Where is the government in this matter? -Rehabeam* THE City of Windhoek would rather demolish shacks than my neighbour’s illegal structure which I brought to their attention two months ago.* WHY are we complaining about the municipality’s rates and taxes. By now we should know that irrespective of our concerns that they will anyway implement their decisions. Let’s campaign and do away with the party list system so that we can elect capable leaders that are accountable to the people and not to their egos and parties.Election Fever* PLEASE publish a more detailed story about the Electoral Amendment Bill. I think many of us are confused about its actual content and possible impact.Could we have some please* TO the Omuthiya Town Council, we really appreciate the services, but build public toilets, please! – Ndatega, Windhoek* WHO has the right to ignore a patient in ambulance if he or she is referred by a doctor to another hospital like Windhoek or Keetmanshoop? Please Mariental State Hospital, improve your attitude.* TO the government, we need a political answer on the issue of Caprivi, not a judicial answer. Is there anything wrong with a political divorce?- Hans* PLEASE the management of OK Otavi remove the picture of the boy. We know you caught him stealing, but you don’t have the right to put his picture on the door.* DO the educational regions consider different aspects when rating schools in terms of (pass/fail) performances? If you happen to visit some schools, especially in the rural areas, you will feel pity, and find yourself asking: ‘Does this school expect to produce? Most of the school is sheds. Think of them during the rain, wind and cold seasons.’ Coming to secondary schools admission, some schools select the best learners compared with a school admitting every learner regardless of passing the test, interview or symbols. It is discouraging principals and teachers who are trying using few or no materials/facilities, when educational officers praising those schools without considering those aspects. It’s good schools are categorised based on boarding, environment, facilities, learner’s distances, constructions and criteria of admission, in which the praised schools are benefiting. Ministry of Education analyse this motion.- A concerned teacher, Omusati region. * I WAS astonished when I travelled to Ongenga last weekend via the Omungwelume road. That gravel road has been renovated for years without being completed, side ways space not suitable for sedans and finished parts with lots of potholes. Ministry of Work please investigate.- Concerned citizenEducation* ENGLISH is the official language. With that one would expect English to qualify as a First Language choice at all high schools. To my surprise, at Jan Mohr Secondary School, English is only offered as a Second Language. Afrikaans and Otjiherero are the only languages available as 1st languages. With that arrangement many kids are excluded from enrolling at the school. Ministry of Education, please reply * WE are Grade 10 learners at JA Nel Senior Secondary School (Keetmanshoop). We are at risk of failing geography if we don’t get help now. Please help us, we need a geography teacher!Labour Issues* ROSSING Pension Fund and Mr Groenewald, can you update us on the status of our pension surplus. We need our money while still alive.* WHY is the RCC promoting those who are not performing?* ORGANISATIONS that are using volunteers are taking advantage of them, because those people are working hard but they are never given anything. The officers have high salaries while those who are suffering in the breeze and working through the hot sun are not given anything but instead they are just kept quiet.Service Please* THE bank (FNB) is quick to deduct charges but too slow to work in your favour. We gave instructions to deduct the full amount as payment for our home loan and they deducted the amount the following day. They promised to give the title of our collateral after a month. Today it has been already four months and still have not given me back the title. Their excuse is that the title is with their lawyers. * PLEASE memes who are selling kapana at the Wanaheda bus stop, don’t just rush for money. Please let’s keep our food clean! Suggestions Box*WITH the freezing cold, more and more people are chopping down trees around Windhoek to keep warm and cook. Can’t we put buying the N$600 million Government jet on hold for a few years and spend that money ensuring that every poor household has a fuel efficient stove and a solar (cardboard box) oven. This will help to protect the environment and surely create some jobs?Road Hogs* THE taxi driver of N80013W: road rage kills innocent people. Hope the person responsible for you reads this SMS.* TO the driver of Isuzu KB200 N68986W with a dent on the passenger door, please note that four way stops are there for a reason and they are part of the traffic rules. Please learn to stop. It won’t kill you but it might when you ignore them like you did on the morning of July 16 in Dorado Park and again between Windhoek West and Windhoek north.- A concerned road user and driver.Sporting* TO the chairman and owner Mr. Johnny Johnson Doeseb ( JJD) and executive committee members of Eleven Arrows Football Club. We are still waiting for answers to what happened with the Bantam Bakkie draw and 20 other prizes that was supposed to take place on August 16 2008?. – Mrs Worried
