SMSes for Friday 01 June 2009

•MARCHING against corruption is fine, but reporting, firing and prosecution of culprits is better!
•FELLOW citizens, I as most other members of public honour and forever will remember the heroic role the founder President (like other freedom fighters) has played. He also served three terms of office and with his restless efforts introduced Vision 2030. We applaud him for that.

•FELLOW citizens, I as most other members of public honour and forever will remember the heroic role the founder President (like other freedom fighters) has played. He also served three terms of office and with his restless efforts introduced Vision 2030. We applaud him for that. History remains! The truth is also that, him being titled Father of the Nation, shows the paramount respect we have for him. But is he God? He is human and made errors and mistakes too! And as anyone else more of these errors and blunders are most likely as he grows older. He deserves a restful retirement from active politics. We are living in a global village era in which foreigners and white nationals are an integral part of our productive nation.
Food For Thought
•NBC TV must introduce a channel which should solely cover the all the local and international news 24/7. It’s boring and senseless to watch outdated news the next day. – Mekupi
• I’M really sad to see live chickens up for market but they are placed in the sun at the Wanaheda bus stop. They are still alive and they can also feel. What if they were human? Oh please.
• I AND many other peace-loving and crime-fearing Namibians demand the reinstatement of the Special Field Force on the streets. When they were in charge we at least slept in peace. Just educate them to respect human rights and put them back on the street.
Politics
• IN response to the SMS in The Namibian of May 27 on why the Father of the Nation still comments on the party as well as Government programmes. (Founding President Sam) Nujoma is a father and mother of the Namibian Government and its people and he hasn’t committed any crime. He handed over the power in peace therefore he has the right to comment on both sides. Whether you like it or not, because he retired doesn’t mean not contributing anything to the Namibian people. – Soviet
• OUR Founding President is surely still frustrated by the events of colonialism. Old age is catching him that he only singled out Angola among many other foreign countries which assisted Namibia to freedom. Uncle, you are doing more harm to your good reputation, please just retire for good.
• FOUNDING PRESIDENT (Sam Nujoma) has put me to shame. Nobody is going to kill for you, sir. Foreigners are helping us, the poor, in terms of education, medical matters and to grow our economy.
•I’M a confused young Namibian youth, confused because it seems that there are two Presidents running the country. One current and the other trying to come back. One chasing foreigners out of the country at a rally at Helao Nafidi, just to dine with the same foreigners a week after and receive money through his foundation at an occasion for Chinese at Unam a week after. What double standards, while our current President met with Mr Maurice Tempelsman, who is also a foreigner, at State House for business purposes. Who is the President of our beloved country? They even boycotted the ACC march. I never heard of any Presidents marching against corruption, instead of taking action right away. – Concerned youth
•SWAPO must tell the nation whether the statements by the Founding President at the Swapo rally at Ohangwena attacking the new churches and telling parents not to teach the Bible to the children at home are from the Swapo election manifesto or not. The nation has the right to know. – Wetu
•THE name ‘Founding Father’ is proving to be very confusing to some of us. We know who the father of Namibian politics is. We also know who coined the name Swapo, and we also know that all the Namibian people founded the Namibian nation. But we do not know what the Founding Father found. Did he find Namibia as a country or what? – Nambaisita.
•IT’S so pathetic to see and hear Mr Sam Nujoma saying bad things to foreigners and ironically using their money and all other facilities.- Matutjiua
Bouquets And Brickbats
•ON your Political Perspective of Friday May 29, Ms Gwen Lister leave our Founding Father alone. He doesn’t need your advice. Leave him alone! He has the same rights as yours and he has the right to use it whenever he feels like it. You are one of those puppets of the Westerners and you are only here in our country to criticise our Government. You came in with the colonisers from RSA and you are only here because of that small newspaper business otherwise you will leave for your next country, which I think is Australia. That’s why you don’t own any property here in Namibia, except that small house where you are operating from in John Meinert Street. We know everything but you forgot already. Shame on you. I know you won’t print my SMS but I’ll continue telling it as it is as you do! – Jomo – For the record, Ms Lister has no connections to Australia. – News Editor
• THE Development Bank and David Nuyoma are professional enough to put our tax money into projects that work. And projects that work and create jobs! Not rip-offs where people just buy fancy 4x4s with the money!
• MY eight-year-old daughter heard, with joy, of the changes that were announced on NBC-TV for 01/06/09, but, regrettably, ‘Show Me the Funny’ programme was not increased.
• NBC! You lack strategies. Why can’t you just have the news bulletin once at 20h00? Now you want to broadcast the Parliamentary Report at midnight. Who will watch it? Do you want the people to watch it or just want to broadcast as long you did it? Please plan again.
Going Loco
• ENOUGH is enough! Heads must roll in the TransNamib Chinese locomotives saga. ACC should also investigate if bribes were involved in this scandal!
General
• GRN why not convert the wasteland called Ramatex into prison cells? It would create better (humane) living as guaranteed by our Constitution.
• AIR Namibia is just a huge loss with increasing debt every year. Government sell all planes, all equipment. Use money to recover losses. Staff can be placed at TransNamib and other government offices.
• IT’S one thing for the Government to have signed the Pelindaba Treaty, but has it ratified the Treaty for it to become operational? Namibia’s commitment to nuclear non-proliferation and a nuclear weapon free Africa will be measured by its ratification of Pelindaba. Then we can take the moral high ground with condemnatory public statements.
• CORRUPTION is what the ruling class speaks about as illegal enrichment. We will probably not win the fight against illegal enrichment without also tackling the type of enrichment that is formally legal, but still blatantly unjust.
Health Matters
• I AM a nurse at Katutura Hospital, since last week we haven’t had oxygen. The nurses are always blamed Please, Ministry of Health do something. Not even the theatre has oxygen.
Sporting
• I WISH to agree with the SMS sent on May 27. I think the NRU are fooling themselves. Please give our guys the exposure, I think they deserve it.
In And From the Regions
•TO the Karasburg Town Council how many shebeens are operating illegally and without inspection from the health inspector. And how many street vendors are operating without hawkers’ licences. Councillors you must pull up your socks for a positive contribution. 2010 is around the corner
•PLEASE Hon Minister of Health talk to Opuwo State Hospital. People are dying here.
• WHY does the Walvis Bay community library have to sell us GRN forms for job applications while we are supposed to receive this service free? Our N$3 is too much to waste on a free service we given by the Government! – Jan
•IT’S now 19 years after Independence and little has been done. Most small towns are still using the bucket toilet system, no electricity in most small towns and no tarred roads. Yet people from those areas are voting. Your vote empowers the already luxurious living officials to cruise around in expense Volvos without looking after you.
• CELL One we are very hungry for you at Bethanie
•IT seems Comrade President (Hifikepunye Pohamba) does not know this. I am talking about the Oshakati – Omungwelume Road which is being spoiled by those entrusted with tarring it. It has now taken almost three years without completion. A distance of just 35 km. Cde President, please look into this urgently.
•THE matrons of Oshakati hospital want the nursing staff to respect the uniform, thanks! They must also start realising that putting a scarf around their necks on top of the respected uniform is equally disturbing. They must improve!
•DROUGHT relief food is not for human consumption in the Omaheke Region, Epukiro. Just open the yellow maize bag you will run away as the insects chase after you because no maize is left inside. Please councillor do something about this. – Disappointed Granny
Education
•MINISTER of Education, please intervene. In the Khomas Regional Office many senior people are always sick. A lot of doctors’ appointments notes are left on their doors. Who is monitoring who? Let us all work!
•WHAT is happening at Mweshipandeka High School? The learners are failing, there is no improvement. They are introducing a lot of new rules, but no change! No braids for girls, no cellphones, baby cuts for boys and still no improvement. The changes that they have introduced are not giving our kids good points instead they are failing. Please parents let’s discuss this matter further!
Responses From TransNamib, Cell One
•Mr Kavekotora of TransNamib, can you answer me about the shares of the company you sold to FNB for 48 million. What happened to this money?
TransNamib is continually reviewing its financial position and propose new interventions to strengthen its bottom line. In fact, the shares sold amounted to N$80 million.
The above transaction is one of many interventions endorsed by the Board and line Ministry. The funds are designated for various strategic projects, one of them being the refurbishing of the 18 locomotives over a period of 2 years. – Ritha Nghiitwikwa, Public Relations Officer, TransNamib
