* TO all Namibian and African brothers and sisters, the West is not our enemy. Either we don’t have an enemy or we are own enemies.
Food For Thought * I’M PLEADING for a stern law that will have all offenders of drunken driving jailed without the option to pay a fine. This is the sensible way to stop the rich from getting away with murder. To ensure sobriety and safety on Namibian roads, we need not only jail those who can’t afford to pay the fine. – Sandi, RasOur Readers Respond* To the individual asking MTC & Cell One why one cannot send SMSes to South Africa… You can!!! Simply add +27 in front of the cell number you want to send an SMS to and drop the zero, for e.g. +2782…Deal With It Please* What is the future of Namibia? Vision 2030 will never be met! The wealth of Namibia belongs to only the elite politicians! My heart cries when seeing the need amongst our people. Can’t Swapo, our Government, start allocating fishing, mining, etc concessions to communities instead of rich Swapo individuals? Our GRN can feed the whole Namibia with its riches! Who will ever make a difference? Please do something, Tate Pohamba and company.* YOU can’t just imagine! Every time one goes to Otjomuise mobile Police station there are no declaration forms. I went there on Tuesday and again on Saturday but no declaration forms. Is this what they can offer the public? The lady who was on duty on Saturday morning was not polite.* PLEASE Nampost courier personnel in Windhoek, fill in your waybills properly.* CAN the GRN do something about the price rise of houses? We, be it in GRN or private sector, can hardly afford proper housing. Some end up buying sectional titles which have many rates and taxes problems. Can the municipality do something? Amnesty on rates and taxes maybe? Personal accounts and not one group account? Others will rent for the period of their employment and end in the streets because their pension won’t be able to carry them. Please help.Price Pain* IS the Namibian Government becoming like Zim with a 2 000 per cent increase in multi-entry visas? Shocking!* IF the re-entry visa costs N$3 000 why was the renewal not extended to 5 to 10 years, that will make it fair for the price.* NAMIB Mills, Dairies, Meatco etc you are making Namibia’s own products which are supposed to be cheap, but they are competing with South African products. Why? Change your prices and help us.Zimbabwe* PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe, the sooner you resign and accept defeat in the June 27 election run-off, the better your chances of salvaging the remaining respect you may have had. We acknowledge your principled stand on land reform, but it is unfortunate that you were surrounded by greedy ministers and advisers. We just want change now. Pass on the revolution to MDC and Tsvangirai.* TO see Africa standing together to stop the ‘Ship of Shame’ was wonderful. All that is left now is prayers for Zimbabwe and her people. Shame on Congo.* ANGOLA and Congo-Brazzaville should be suspended from SADC for the ‘Ship of Shame’* IS it an irony of circumstance that while the rest of the world has been empathising with the Chinese over the numerous deaths caused by the earthquake, the Chinese persisted in their nebulous scheme by ‘successfully’ delivering its dangerous cargo of arms and ammunition to Mugabe’s government to be potentially used in the destruction of the lives of hundreds or thousands of our African brothers & sisters in Zimbabwe? And the world stands idle for another calamity to unfold before our very eyes? What a shame! – Ohene Awuku, Unam.* I DISAGREE with United States Secretary of State saying Robert Mugabe is the disgrace of Africa. George W Bush is the disgrace of Iraq and Afghanistan. He is embarrassing the world.Consumed About Service* THE banks should start implementing safety measures for their clients. I’ve witnessed, on many occasions, how a client will withdraw money at the counter, the bank clerk will count the client’s money in full view of the other clients in the queue. What if there’s a robber in the queue? Or someone in the queue may tip off a robber. Please do something about this as we’re no longer safe. – WorriedGeneral* WHY is the City of Windhoek so reluctant to restructure strategic positions so that a thorough investigation can be launched, especially into the HR dept?* I THOUGHT it was none of my business when some prominent leaders failed to pay for their water and electricity bills or abused public facilities and resources. I did not tell the Anti-Corruption Commission until I saw a business closing its doors on Friday in Katutura because the owner owes the City of Windhoek some N$35 000 for water and electricity, thus leaving six employees on the streets while the prices of goods are skyrocketing.* THE City Police must please do something to stop those children who are playing soccer in the streets. Let me thank a few policemen who have already started with this good job. We are sick and tired of accidents caused by these children.* I’M so disappointed with Miss Namibia for selecting only those from urban areas, mostly from Windhoek, as if that is the only place where you will find beautiful women with the good bodies, intelligence and experience. We people from the rural areas are very interested too and it’s so sad that you never select us, otherwise change it to Miss Urban Namibia.* I WOULD be appreciative if your popular newspaper could place this small note so I can get an answer from the Police, particularly from the Inspector General and the Police Regional Commander for Oshana Region. My questions are as follows: (1) Since when are people who are attending political rallies, which are not addressed by His Excellency the President, to be searched by the Police? (2) Why is the RDP interim President receiving a red carpet from Oshana Police unlike other opposition leaders? (3) Lastly, a senior Police official is openly partaking in political activities contrary to the Police Act 1990 (19 of 1990). Please Inspector General give us the answers and start giving us equal protection. – Concerned DTA member* THE Public Service Commission, ACC, and OPM must investigate how Ministries conduct their capacity building of employees. It so happens that only top management attend same workshops and training every year. Maybe the whole S and T budget is part of their contract. What will happen if they die or resign? This is an issue that leads to inefficiencies in the Government. Even simple courses meant for juniors they grab.Health Matters* DEAR Hon Deputy PM, please take the three kids that need special surgery on board your humanitarian ship! Theirs are special cases just like San and others. Please!* ‘KAPANA’ means overtime. Please investigate the allocation of kapana at Katutura State Hospital. Night matrons rule us like Robert Mugabe. We are sick and tired of Zanu-PF regime at night. Please act now Nanu.* THE so-called security at Katutura State Hospital gate entrance is highly unprofessional, untrained. They have no training as far as hand signals are concerned and don’t know how to stop a car. Please educate these people.Brickbats and Bouquets* THE Namibian, thank you for still telling it like it is. Thumbs up, if you could also find also a way to get feedback to SMSes with questions like the Education Ministry does.We will appreciate it.* Ministry of YNSSC, well done for establishing National Arts Fund Council for giving financial assistance to run their own projects. Self-employment and sustainable arts are needed in Namibia. Please can the NACN speed up the process giving to artists who submitted their application for financial assistance last November 2007 to start their programmes and projects soon. – P Limbere, Rundu. In And From The Regions* COMRADE Ndilula of Omundudu. Endola bridge, what are your plans! We want a bridge before the next rainy season!Politics in General* SWAPO and RDP are wrong. I don’t see political maturity in them. All have neglected the economical crisis in our country, the so-called Zimbabwe No 2. – NickySport* CAN the National Tennis Association please explain on what criteria they choose the Davis Cup team if the are no senior tournaments. Secondly, is the NTA recognised by the Sports commission? I think we need a new tennis body that is serious about the game and its development.Education* I WOULD like to know why the Ministry of Education has forbidden Unam from giving the loan holders a full refund at the end of the year to settle their accommodation and transport, because the money has to go back to the ministry. Do they still expect the loan holders to pay back in full as they have sign the contract. Ministry of Education please reply!* CAN the Erongo senior education officer, Mr Eiseb tell Swakopmund, especially Mondesa residents, why they have Namcol classes in town at Swakopmund Senior Secondary School rather than at nearby schools. Most students are from Mondesa and our children are not safe after classes and we can’t afford taxi fares everyday.* MR P SHIVUTE PS of the Ministry of Defence. How many times should the NDF students at Unam and IUM knock at your door regarding the student allowance. The academic year 2008 started on January 15, but we haven’t received anything until today.* THE situation at Mariental High School is worrisome as teachers leave the school for greener pastures. Since January no appointment has been made in the following subjects: Geography, history, business management and agriculture. How are these children going to write their examination? Please Mr Principal do something to save this situation. The Ministry of Education and the Hardap Regional Office must investigate. – Concerned parent* THE examination office at the Polytechnic should think out of the box. Not all your distance education students have access to Internet nor are we in towns to go to the ever-slower Internet service providers. Some of us are in remote rural areas and have to travel 120 km to get to the nearest telephone or fax line. It’s nearly a week before the scheduled exam starts (June 2-21) and we don’t have our exam timetable. To travel 120 km, to phone and humbly request the time table to be faxed to you and the response you get is that we are too busy printing all students exam timetables and therefore can’t help you is unprofessional for an institution of higher learning. The timetables, which you are printing now, should have already been in the hands of students.Disconnections* RDP news is broadcast on condition that Swapo Party has responded. The Oshiwambo phone-in programme is prohibiting “politics” to be expressed while English talk shows did not materialise on May 19. Can all basic human rights be respected by NBC?* NBC. Why is the 8 o’clock news aired for only 25 minutes the other five minutes is divided by the sport, weather and the stock exchange? Yet we are not fully informed about news happening inside the country. Can’t the news play for at least an hour so they do not broadcast old news? The Namibian newspaper does not report old news.
