SMS Of The Day : Monday

* The reason why people would go to the extreme to defend their heroes is because the moment their heroes are proved to be villains, they themselves are proved to be fools.

Food for thought * IT is surprising to see that when taxpayers’ money is wasted nobody dares opens his mouth. Money has been lost at Social Security Commission, GIPF, RCC, Khomas Regional Council and NDF but you hear no word from Swapo, NUNW, Swapo Youth League, Hakaye and many others. Yet there are useless attacks and threats on The Namibian newspaper. We will not reach Vision 2030 but Division 2030. Why can’t they deal with these people who are wasting and stealing from the poor?* WERE we not also supposed to inaugurate a shrine for the human remains discovered at Shark Island in the Karas Region as part of Heroes’ Day commemoration?* HEY community, can’t we do something together to help meme Lina Johannes? She is really doing something – we are just talking and discussing our problems. Sad! Big up to Meryl!* Namibians! Does it really matter what tribe Meryl is from? These are the things that are destroying our peace. Say no to TRIBALISM. – NJC* I AM Oshiwambo speaking and find it insulting and ridiculous that Meryl of Big Brother is being labelled loose and immoral. Who says all Oshiwambo-speaking people are dishonest, not open, not straightforward, unsexy, timid and unattractive. We must know that those who display those qualities are simply pretending and being dishonest and they are the very people who are immoral, evil and loose after sunset. Leave Meryl alone to be straightforward, open and honest and sexy. Shame to those who do not have those virtuous qualities.* THERE is absolutely nothing wrong with Meryl and BB has nothing to do with race. Let’s support Meryl to the end. Although young, she is by far the best entertainer!!* NATASHA Uys, is Justice not going back to university? Please update us in your next issue. (Didn’t know anyone cared! – News Editor)Thank you* THANK you, CITY OF WINDHOEK for street lights lately brought to Okahandja Park. Crime is reduced! Additionally, we need bathroom facilities. – Puta General* WHY are the fishing companies, especially those catching horse mackerel, still using cheap labour from the Ukraine while we Namibians are unemployed.* VISION 2030 is only 23 years away. The question on everyone’s lips (especially the youth) should be will we be able to accomplish-achieve this vision without a skilled and strong workforce? Let’s engage ourselves in activities that can uplift the standard of living and contribute to the social and economic growth of our country and become more self-reliant rather than depending on other countries as today. – G-Martin, Karasburg* NAMIBIA and Vision 2030. There was no consultation with the youth of this country when this document was drafted. I wonder for how long the Swapo leadership will depend on Sam Nujoma, he is definitely not the saviour and god of Namibia. – Myles* THE board of directors of RCC has clearly shown that they have no understanding of the business in which they are. They have no insight of business and approved projects and had no clue of the construction industry. Please minister, dismiss them as they have destroyed the RCC. The company is going down and it may go down with you too. We want a new board and CEO, RCC is an important player in the development of this country.* FOR God’s sake, why do people make such a fuss about Katiti and his N$ 2.8 million. Who cares? Take those who stole the N$100 million, the N$30 million to the High Court and leave Mr Katiti alone. He is not stealing from anyone. It was a Council resolution that entitled Mr Katiti to get the bucks. Wake up Namibia and address the real issues.* CIVIL servants in Namibia are among the poorest. Can the GRN allow us to take some of our GIPF pension money to pay off our house bonds, debts and buy new cars, like all the other employees of the parastatals who are allowed to borrow from their pension each year?* WHAT is happening at TransNamib? Over the weekend I travelled to Walvis Bay on board the Starline. The train only left after eleven instead of the stipulated 20h00. One can understand a 30 minute delay but three hours of waiting? I find it ridiculous plus its not the first. Can the management of TransNamib’s Starline start planning properly and stop wasting customers’ time!* PLEASE Namibians, leave Harry alone! The brother is trying to repent. Go Harry go! Show them that your were born a champ and still will be a champ after serving your time. – Tite Shimanda* I GET annoyed by those who speak out against taxis. I’m not a taxi driver neither do I own one. My question is, when you as a pedestrian see five dollars on a pavement do you leave it or take it? So the same with taxi drivers when they see N$6,50 standing on a pavement, they don’t leave it because it’s survival. – Wendy Neema* NAMIBIA needs 2 000 qualified accountants by 2030. Meanwhile black trainee accountants in one of the auditing firms at Walvis Bay are being trained in a harsh and oppressive environment. These include low salary, not recognised for hard work, no promotion and limiting their training exposure based on their colour. ICAN president, are you aware of these unacceptable practices? Will our sons and daughters make it to vision 2030 in this profession?* OSAKA 2007. Are our athletes fit enough for this competition? We could have used the money wasted there for development (why run if you run in the wrong lane?). Never allow people to go on tour in the name of sport. – Concerned TaxpayerICC issue* NUJOMA coming back as president? Please Phil, stop hallucinating and remember Nujoma is not accountable to you! Form a political party, as you don’t deserve to be a human rights campaigner! I think you are trying to destroy Swapo and its leadership! So President Pohamba don’t be distracted! Aluta Continua!* NSHR and its boss don’t give up, we are behind you! President Pohamba must stop the threats made by some of the Swapo Party leaders otherwise if something happens to Mr Ya Nangoloh and his associates, the GRN will be held accountable!* IF what Ya Nangoloh is doing is part of his right, why is he not questioning the former South African government about people that went missing? Why is the human rights organisation only concentrating on what happened in Angola? What about our people who went missing during the South African rule? Tate Phil, I want you to play fair.* PLEASE Ya Nangoloh you are supposed to call Germans and South Africans to the ICC, instead of your Namibian brothers.* NAMIBIANS, stop being hypocrites, as one who was detained by Swapo, I want to ask you to stop saying the ICC case is opening old wounds. Did you give us a platform to address the issue, and did we inform you that our wounds are closed? This is a good chance to repent now. There is no repentance after death, only judgement face to face with God. He is faithful and forgiving. Better go on your knees now and invite God into your heart. Jesus is waiting with open arms to receive us all. To the pastors in Namibia, you failed God, you closed the doors of the church in our faces when we came from exile today you are still quiet.* THOSE who advocate for truth and reconciliation commission are wrong. National reconciliation policy is there. Media and other retrogressive forces leave Dr Nujoma and our Mighty Swapo alone. I’m sure Swapo will rule Namibia for more than 100 years to come. The rest will be history. – Die hard Nujoma ally Please contact me* To HERMAN, the tour guide: We were stuck at Karibib on Sunday, August 26, on the way to Windhoek. You and your brother stopped at the Engen garage to help me and my daughter out. We are looking for you. Please contact Rita at 081 2806222 Uniformed forces* POLICE officers working condition and salaries have been an issue for decades, but nothing is done to resolve the matter. My question is that are these people not doing a great job? Please responsible minister give the answer.* I UNDERSTAND that uniformed forces are not entitled to overtime pay, but why are the City Police getting overtime? Are they not uniformed forces?* I would like to ask NamPol to give more inservice training to some Police officers, in order to improve their skills for better national services. – Bester Lulatelo (Katima)* THE Inspector General of NamPol must rotate all Police officers around the country to prevent corruption and they must improve their salaries.Herero Mall* DEAR Editor, please grant me space to express my views on an article written by Alfredo Tjiurimo Hengari saying LET US TEAR DOWN THE HERERO MALL. I’m a Herero by birth and 18 years old. I’m very proud to know that the Hereros have created a place where the youth can come together and talk about their tradition. That place is the mall of my people. It’s not a racist organisation but a traditional one. If other ethnic groups want their own mall let them do so.* YES, Mr Hengari, the majority of our youth face being unemployed, uneducated, disrespectful and drunkards. Is this not due to Government scholarships, nepotism in the granting of bursaries and parents, especially fathers, not giving proper support to to their children? They say respect starts at home and I add the man or woman worth being called either is the one who takes care of his or her responsibilities no matter the circumstances.Beam us up!* BIG Brother Africa. NBC must note that Namibia is represented in the Big Brother house. Please show us what our ambassador is doing there. That’s why l have paid my TV licence already for 2007-2008. – QX, Opuwo* ONE Africa TV may be good but, they make too many mistakes. Like repeating last week’s programme the next week instead of a new episode, poor sound quality, bad movies and replace everything with old soccer or Channel O! And they don’t seem to notice. We are getting bored, if all is rectified they’ll be GREAT.* I’M a resident of Kalkrand in the Hardap Region, and l would like to know why we are paying for our TV licence if at Kalkrand our TVs are showing black and white colour. We are not having enough NBC coverage. Please NBC Director General Bob Kandetu must do something! – Fr* THE NBC and the NFA must get around the table on how best they can promote football and serve the nation. The president must call Rukoro to order – he thinks he knows it all . We are still waiting for promises he made before and after election.* NBC! NBC! Bob Kandetu, do you ever listen to the Chat Show? Mwala is completely biased, redundant and thinks the programme belongs to him. Tebbs on the other hand is over-cautious to the extent that one would think he’s scared of the microphone. Fire them both and interview a competent person for this programme please.Traditional issues* IS the leadership of Ovambanderu still functioning? If yes, can somebody tell what they are doing at present. We registered as a Traditional Authority but not as the Nguvauva Royal House as some misguided Mbanderus think. It’s high time we need capable leaders to lead us unlike those who are currently leading.* WHY does the Government not pay traditional leaders? The headmen travel long distances and use their own money for Government’s work. Please, the GRN must consider the important role of traditional leaders especially in crime prevention. Why are only senior headmen considered? What about ordinary headman who is very involved in his community’s work.Politics in general* SWAPO Party government will never develop into a national character and content because it is made up of die hard party loyalist who never will place national interest above party goals. We need a government of national unification now!* DOES our main opposition political party really deserve its title as a country’s main official opposition? What will happen if it gets the chance to rule in 2009? Will our country not just become a 2nd Zimbabwe? – JC From the regions* I’M not against people making ends meet by operating unlicensed gambling machines. On the contrary, I lament the fact that apart from Windhoek and the northern regions starting from Oshivelo unlicensed machines are tolerated. Why are unlicensed machines from other regions confiscated and owners imprisoned? Why this inconsistency, don’t we have a uniformed law enforcement? The lucrative market for these machines is no secret, but we deny some and allow others to benefit. What is the logic here? Police Station Commanders must take uniformed decision and accord the same leniency where necessary.* OPUWO Town. Council, we are paying for municipal services, it’s now three weeks since rubbish has been removed. Our bins are full. How can we keep the town clean if you don’t lead by example. – Guluva Education* I’M essentially worried about the changes of syllabus. I’m in grade 10 and I and my fellow learners have a problem with unavailable textbooks for life science. I therefore call on the Ministry of Education to do something as we are facing our final exam. – Miloz* PARENTS who cannot afford the school fees of their children are blackmailed by certain principals by withholding children’s examination results.
