SMS of the day : Friday

* THE tragedy unfolding in Zimbabwe must be seen as a creation by Africans in general and SADC leadership in particular. If that is the depth of leadership of SADC, our sub-region is heading for collective failure. If Zimbabwe was led by whites, there would have been a huge outcry by Africans en masse. However, when Africans themselves perpetuate injustice against fellow Africans, it is normal. What message do we portray to the rest of the world – simply confirming the stereotype that Africans are incapable of governing themselves.

Whose democracy? * IN terms of our Constitution, ours is a democratic country. Hence it is safe to assume that the rule of law is the pillar of our democratic values. Could the President or anyone explain how the ICC issue which is a judicial matter threatens our peace and stability?* COWARDS everywhere. At Unam, at the ACC, in Swapo. How pathetic. Namibians, our brief era of democracy will soon be over, if we do not start appreciating it.* SHAME on Unam for joining the culture of intolerance. Today it is Makumbe, tomorrow it is your own professors. What a shame!* I SUGGEST that the courts be given more power to call to book politicians who make irresponsible, inflammatory, uncensored statements in the National Assembly and National Council because some individuals abuse their immunity during debates. What goes around comes around! Otherwise the media should remain uncensored too. Even better, let’s just agree to be guardians of our beloved Constitution which after all entrenches all of our freedoms and equalities.* IF the President says that the people have to go out of the country because they are talking about what they feel as we have got freedom of speech, where must they go from their motherland? – Stanley Sabab* PRESIDENT Pohamba, with due respect, please retract your statement of telling people to pack and go. Namibia is not just for the former President and his praise singers. There you have it wrong, Sir. Can’t those who can’t stand criticism perhaps leave the leadership positions and become ordinary citizens.* I WANT to leave. How much is the one-way ticket?* PLEASE let them get one-way tickets to go. We will not sympathise with them. I will contribute if there is a fund for buying tickets for them.* GO pack? Yeah! And the last one to leave, switch off the lights, please.* IF Nujoma is as clean and shiny as Hakaye, the Youth League and others say, then there is nothing the ICC can do to prove otherwise. Thus nothing to be afraid of unless they have so little confidence in Namibia’s democracy and honestly believe that Ya Nangoloh can destroy it.* DEMOCRATIC fellow Namibians, can we watch our words to our leaders. Who are you to tell the President to leave if he can’t stand the criticism?* HONOURABLE Hakaye and those who are in support of the motion you introduced. Shame on. Why do you want the media to be regulated? The Namibian you mentioned by name acted as a Swapo “mouthpiece” before Independence, but today it is regarded as one of the State’s enemies simply because it is telling the way it is. Don’t bring Zimbabwe here. Read the Constitution of Namibia with understanding.* PLEASE Kayone leave our media in peace.* THANK you Misa for condemning the attack on press freedom. The Namibian must continue ‘STILL TELLING IT LIKE IT IS’. We want to be informed and for those who want to conceal, I won’t say pack and go, but SORRY! – Shivela* VICE CHANCELLOR, stifling debate at Unam, now here is something to march for Unam SRC. What does this say about Unam? Another slap in the face to the Constitution.* UNAM ‘chickens out’ on Zim. Papa Nujoma has spoken. Nobody dare criticise Mugabe.* SEEMS Namibia is turning into a little Zimbabwe with all these regulatory laws proposed against the media. Does freedom of speech only apply to certain people? From the regions* THE San cemetery separated from Ovakwanyama is their idea of respecting their ancestors. Please learn their culture before you say a word Namibians!* FAVOURITISM! Recently we heard that Councillor Mwala of Kabbe is sidelining Lusese and its residents. Recently he handpicked casual labourers from his village of Kabbe to remove the tents at Lusese camp. There are many in Lusese who can do this work. He deserves to be reprimanded or removed. He is annoying the voters and he is sowing hatred.* PLEASE, Governor Shanigua, tell us what Councillor Arie has proposed to your office for development at Groot Aub. We also want to know who our community leaders are, cause everyone calls themselves one.* MR Councillor of the Ondangwa Constituency, we need water at Shatimwene Kindergarden at Lilugudhi village. We are in darkness and need electricity at Elago Combined School. We also want a clinic at Omagongati village.* I WOULD like to thank my President comrade Hifikepunye Pohamba for having reshuffled the former PS of Health, who never controlled the NID campaign at Opuuo. I hope the new PS will control Opuuo hospital staff members not to shut the hospital during the NID campaign and go for the campaign themselves. Private cars are used without any additional payment apart from fuel.* IN Iipanda village, Omusati Region, people are travelling a long distance for medical treatment. Can the Government look into this matter urgently. ICC issue* Namibians – let us not be fooled. Why is there reconciliation if no wrongs were done in the past? – L.I.K* LET the Government scrap the policy of national reconciliation so that we can deal with the issues of who did what, because we will also question the past role of Mr Ya Nangoloh.* PHIL ya Nangoloh must withdraw the case of the Father of the Nation at ICC before bad things happen and he must remember the policy of national reconciliation. We as Namibians we like peace. – A Ihula* WHY should President Pohamba and other people be afraid to have the former president investigated? Are they afraid of the outcome? If you know that there is nothing to hide then stop interfering with the investigation .* THE Founding Father should beware of his new friends. Richard Metcalfe was a prosecutor during the apartheid era. In 1988, he demanded 10 years jail for those students who demonstrated against the militarisation of northern Namibia. We have not forgotten!* I HAVE observed that the demonstration that was held in the North this week consisted mostly of children. Actually it is like this at most demonstrations. Is the Swapo majority children and what do they understand about the ICC matter?* YA Nangoloh and his ICC issue should have been ignored. By demonstrating and talking too much about him you make him popular.* EVEN the President whom we’ve grown to respect and cherish is now showing the true colours of how things are done in Swapo. Mr President let the rule of law do its work.Harry Simon* HARRY Simon is serving his prison term now. Why do people complain about HIS single cell, TV, etc. If it were you, what kind of treatment would you have liked to get. Remember one thing in life – today it is Harry but tomorrow might be me or you. One does not ask for accidents to happen. – Kauna* WHY should Harry be treated like a celebrity when he is a criminal. Treat him like the other inmates – it’s a prison not a five-star hotel.* PRISON service is actually giving us the impression that the wealthy can commit crimes and still live at large in jail. Aren’t the laws the same for all Namibians?* THANK you Commissioner Tuhafeni for your response on Harry. Simon put this country on the world map – we must still respect him for this.* YO! I never thought Harry was more unique than Paris Hilton. Paris had no access to such comfort in prison. – Kux* I SERIOUSLY fail to understand why people have to make a big fuss about every step Harry takes. Only ignorant people are deprived of the knowledge that people like Harry deserves to be treated with respect and dignity under his circumstances. Give the Champ a break. – Dumisa LigogeGeneral* SUGGESTION: Please put up maps at the entrances of Maerua Mall and Wernhil Park so that customers can easily locate shops. – Gerald* TELECOM has proven to be of the same calibre as most Government organisations. Mismanaged and incompetent. The proof is in the pudding as Namibia is without international internet access, costing countless businesses time and money. What are you doing Telecom?General* WHY don’t we have a men and child abuse centre? Some men are afraid even to cough in their own houses, that’s abuse. Not only rape or being beaten up are the only abuses, but being quiet in your own house is. I think men should stand up as one to fight for their own rights.* IN 1990, when we first commemorated Heroes Day, some veterans were left out. To date they are not receiving the veterans monthly payout of N$500 and they were not given cattle like others. Now my suggestion to the Ministry of Veteran Affairs is for them to take their register and recall them through the radio and other media before this year’s commemoration because some were declared dead or were cheated.* WOW, thieves stealing from orphans. Dear fellow Namibians, this is a very grave sin. The prophecy says don’t ever touch the needy lest God’s wrath comes upon you. Many Africans are suffering because they chose to live inhumanly so repent.* IT’S tourism time again and like all previous years there are tourists walking around showing off their cameras and ipods by hanging it around their necks advertising it. The criminals must think they are in a candy store – should I take the Nikon with 10x optical zoom or the ipod nano in the purple slipcase. So the tourists should NOT complain when they get robbed. THINK!!! – F Weckelein* CORRUPTION in the issuing of national documents is not only about money. It’s about inconsistency and malfunctioning management of Home Affairs. The management of Home Affairs is the cause of corruption, because it advises its families, relatives, friends to be assist without queuing at counters.* THE Director of Forestry does not have a vision for staff forestry development at all, only foreign trips. Why is there such a high staff turn over in the directorate?* I’M consumed by the thought of why so many young people are unemployed in our country. Some of these youth achieved good grades in matric. Why is the Government neglecting the young people that are said to be the leaders and future of tomorrow? We are dynamic and useful so employ us. – Chris* GAMBLING is an unproductive waste of money! What do we need gambling machines for? Why should a few people get rich at the expense of others? Let the people use their hard-earned coins on food and shoes for their children! Ban ONE-ARMED BANDITS and their human accomplices.* WHY can’t the Police have their own union to represent the Police cause. There is no union which can help them.Education* NO wonder the Namibian society is so confused about what is wrong and what is right. What criteria was used to award Deputy Minister of Education the FNB ETSIP award when the stakeholders have rejected most of ETSIP. This is a sign of lack of consultation with teachers who are suppose to be drivers of it. FNB be realistic with your awards you confusing the society.* MR Nahas Angula are you the author of the book titled “Toward Education for All?” If yes how come learners are still sitting on the floor? No toilet facilities for teachers and learners, lower primary classes are overcrowded with up to 70 learners in a class. What do you mean by EQUITY in your book? I suggest you re-read your book with Nangolo Mbumba and practice what you preach. Its now 17 years after Independence sir!!! – Victim from Omuthiya circuit.* HOW is that Unam has been offering the fisheries and marine science course since 1997 but all of us who studied that course only get to find out in 2007 that the course and our bachelor degree is not accredited by NQA. Can you imagine the resources wasted? Most of us are employed at levels that are way below our qualification and are forced to pay back the loan we got from Government to study. Is that fair? Politics in general* I have travelled to Europe, USA and to other African countries. I have not seen so many birthday wishes from business to politicians. Is there something going on behind closed door? Is corruption manifesting openly? – RCB* SWAPO Party can rule FOREVER, if they treat all ethnic groups the same. Don’t only concentrate on one ETHNIC GROUP.* WE learnt Cassinga stories, let us also learn about Lubango.* NBC should show us old footage about Makakunyas beating people during the colonial era. Some of our people who live in the South do not know what happened in the North of the country. And our children must also know about the truth. We shall forgive, but we shall never forget. – Jamwaale* CAN the NBC director general tell us why the Oshiwambo radio service is airing Swapo political songs every day? Why not on national service and other stations? Don’t think all Oshiwambo speakers belong to the Swapo party because not all of us are politically blind! Please change, it’s very shameful!* POLITICS is the art of preventing people from taking part in the very affairs that concern them.* CONGRATULATIONS Hon. Kaura. It is high time to ‘call a spade a spade!’ And please do not be silenced by Swapo’s hollow strategy. NAMIBIANS can seeeee!!!* THE Ovambanderu traditional community constitutional dispute has been dragging on despite a High Court ruling in favour of the concerned group. Now what started as a constitutional dispute, has spilled over to the community’s annual solemn commemorations. What actually are the real issues and what is the role of Kilus Nguvauva, a Deputy Minister and son of the paramount chief? Surely he is involved both as a Mbanderu, chief’s son but on which side of the conflict is he? Is he fuelling the conflict or a peace maker?* LONG live Chief Munjuku Nguvauva II. We will stand behind you through thick and thin. We pray for you to get better and lead us. Then you can choose your successor for us. Viva Munenee!* THE Swapo Party membership and residents of Steinhausen Constituency’s trust has been betrayed by Councillor Kilus Nguvauva, who is fully embroiled in the Mbanderu internal fights and neglecting us. One cannot serve more than one master at the same time. We thought we gave enough power for the councillor to dedicate his time fully to us, but now the gentleman is busy fighting chiefs. If he is interested in becoming a chief, he should resign from regional politics and join tribal politics as we are all not Mbanderus, therefore we cannot allow Mbanderu squabbles to compromise our future.* THANKS to the Omaheke Regional Police Commander for the way he handled the issue of Ovambanderu at Okeseta commemoration even though the former councillor Hoveka accused him of (alleged) corrupt practices on the Otjiherero radio. Still the people’s newspaper* TO me The Namibian is still the same as in August 1985 – objective – when I started to read it. I always realise this when I’m becoming subjective and unreasonable, which I do at times. Keep it up.* I LOVE The Namibian. Now this is what you call freedom of speech! Thank you* WELL done Otjiwarongo State Hospital nurses working under pressure with only one nurse on night duty in each ward with more than 20 patients to take care. To start with, they they don’t have anything except the news to watch and now that the schools are closed they don’t have holiday specials to keep the children busy.* THANKS Mr Bob Kandetu for telling us the amount of money we paid for the television licence and thanks for showing us English soccer. I just hope the N$22 million does not go missing. Instead, please improve poor picture quality and concentrate on local firms. Thank you sir and keep it up!* NBC management wants to take us for a ride again to pay TV licence and nothing to show for it after. The only subjects we get to watch on NBC are animals, old documentaries and re-runs.* MR Kandetu sure knows how to ask this nation to pay TV licence. Since last year’s campaign which was a huge success, he disappeared not even informing viewers what he did with the money cause there is nothing on NBC to show for it except re-run of old movies and comedies.Lironga* LIRONGA Eparu, can the beneficiaries and members of Lironga use this platform to inform us the public if they have actually benefited from funds.
