* MUNICIPALITY makes more money: Note on back of monthly statement reads, ‘the amount due has been rounded to the nearest 5 cents’. My bill of N$385,51 is duly rounded up to N$385,55! Surely the ‘nearest’ 5 cents will be 50 & not 55? If Windhoek Municipality’s making 1 to 4 cents on every account it rounds, how much extra each a month does this add up to?? Who can we complain to?
* IN respect of the Constitution and the people of this country, particularly the taxpayers, could State House inform the nation the amount of money Swapo Party paid for the recent political campaign trail by the President using State resources?
Food For Thought
* PRESIDENT (Hifikepunye) Pohamba and Prime Minister (Nahas) Angula only you and almighty God can help us the poor citizens of Namibia. We can no longer pay for these self-enrichment schemes of the elite like in the case of the X- machines bought for customs. Don’t tell me any longer that we live in a democracy and I can vote. I don’t want to vote I want to buy more food and clothes for my family not luxury cars. This I can only do if you lower taxes and rates but self enrichment and theft does not allow for a lowering of State expenditure. Cut the waste and theft, lower VAT. Please I just want to feed my family better. * I HAVE an excellent solution for global warming. Everybody that lives in a radius of 10 km from work get a mountain bike or jog to work. It keeps emission of gas low and keeps the body in excellent condition (leaders included).- MarioPolitics
* PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba on NBC-TV news last night attacked NSHR as ‘an irresponsible organisation’ that removed refugees from the Osire Refugee Camp and dumped them, including women and children, in an international area between Botswana and Namibia without food and in cold weather. The DRC refugees fled because of death threats by officials, they were given 30 days to leave as there is no reason to flee their country and their political statement ‘constitutes a threat to peace and security in Namibia’. Those refugees have been stranded at an NSHR office for a month. The chief of UNHCR in Namibia knows about it. Mr Pohamba has a letter from the NSHR warning him of refugees wanting to leave, including the urgent fax of June 15, to the UN. Who is fooling who?- Kavulangalo* I THINK it is time Phil ya Nangoloh is called to order! I am referring to reports of refugees taken from Osire by NSHR and are now stranded in no man’s land between Namibia and Botswana apparently because they are not safe in Namibia. Until when should Ya Nangoloh be allowed to tarnish the image of this country.- KondjeniAnd Justice for All
* 120 Million gone! This will test the strength of the money laundering act, Anti-Corruption Commission, the entire justice system because it’s four times the Kandara issue.- Honest taxpayerBouquets And Brickbats
* CAN someone stop the cleaner at Ariamsvlei borderpost immigration departure side shouting at visitors if the floor is wet. My advice to her is that she’s there because of the visitors.
* VERY funny! NBC radio not wanting to mention the names involved in x-ray multi-million dollar scam. Corrupt elements should be exposed.* DEAR editor, allow me to air my view regarding the national TV as a taxpayer, TV license payer and a concerned citizen. The recent reshuffle at the NBC overlooked the Head of Television Programmes who has been feeding us with a lot of bull for quite a long time now. How long is this gonna last? Clearly the person has no idea what good programmes are, cause what is on TV is a personal choice, and for that matter, that choice is at any video shop. Get somebody who keeps up with the trends of life, only then can we start living its vision, to educate, entertain and inform. [Mathew] Gowaseb act now, your success will be seen on the screen, where the others have failed. * THIS is to the Omaheke Regional Council with regard to the organisation of World Population Day, you have done it with flying colours Mr Meroro.- Dankie * VIVA to [WAD] Director Veronica de Klerk. I felt voiceless on the rates hike by the City of Windhoek. I’m a single mother, trying my best to pay my bills, but don’t know now, with the tariff increases.- A concerned mother, WindhoekCity Fathers Please …
* MUNICIPALITY of Windhoek must do something about electricity at Greenwell Matongo. At Eveline Street every Sunday from 18h00 it is just off. We want to deal with our business. It’s where we get bread. – TangiGeneral
* CAN someone please explain the logical reasoning behind bottle stores closing at 14h00 on Saturdays.* AM just concerned about the road markings on some of the routes that Natis Windhoek is using for testing the learners. They have faded away and one can hardly see. I was happy to see people working on the ones that are in town. It will be very helpful if the situation is addressed in the Northern Industrial Area. Thank you very much.* WHY do people complain about the hikes in the municipal tariffs but not about petrol hikes? Do we really expect the rates to remain the same year after year?- People generally complain about all hikes, whether its petrol, municipal rates or food prices. And I imagine that they tend to become even more vocal if they are unhappy with the socalled priorities of those meant to serve them. – News Editor* MR Phil ya Nangoloh, we are behind you all the way. Continue to dig the truth out concerning the mass graves and all outstanding issues.- Democrat from Otjiwarongo Education
* EDUCATION Officers were excluded from the recent re-grading. Result: principals are now above EOs in rank! Questions: How do EOs supervise principals in curriculum implementation? Is this discrepancy an oversight, deliberate or out of ignorance? Why are Nantu, MoE, PSC and OPM all silent? Should the EOs down tools, like the college lecturers did, before their plight can be taken seriously? What injustice! Most are Nantu members, what double standards by the union! * I DID my Advanced Certificate in Education through open learning and it was evaluated this June. Please to those who are worried about the course not being credited, please stop your worries. I have a proof of it. In And From The Regions
* CAN the media please come to Tsumeb and visit Soweto. This location is a total mess and a good breeding place for diseases.- Fed-up resident* SURELY there is something wrong with the town council of Katima Mulilo. A new shopping complex has just been built and guess who are the first to enter? Yes, there are already 25 Chinese shops. What new merchandise are they bringing which is not yet here. – Agnes* MUNICIPALITY of Outjo, please use skilled workers to reconstruct the streets. One thing, why don’t you set up a drainage system under those streets? Don’t forget the rain.* ALL political parties should clearly spell out how they would improve life in the villages. * HALELUJAH to the companies building affordable and good quality homes in Swakopmund for us the homeless for decades. NHE, you can keep your empty promises. At least there are people out there who heard our cries and came to our rescue.* KAVANGO Regional Council, we need answers as to why the money for projects is being sent back? * THE status of financial statements of Oshana, Omusati and Hardap regional councils, reported in the Observer, is very serious. I am sure that someone should be accountable for this mess. Someone has this responsibility assigned to them in their job descriptions. This shows you that the person in such a position is not competent enough for the task. What will the appointing authority do? Such people should be fired or assigned different responsibilities before they cause even more damage. Is this corruption or simply poor management? This is just too shameful. These are the kind of matters for which citizens should put politics aside. * I WONDER, in our small town Outjo, if someone is ever going to open a coffee shop or a small gathering place for our community members who don’t drink alcohol. Every second shop opening is just for alcohol and crime is getting higher as well as sex
and disease. How do we employ job seekers in this case. Please those who have funds try a different thing rather than bars and shebeens.* ON June 24 2009, I was arrested by Ongwediva Police officers as a housebreaking suspect. They detained me for almost 42 hours (more than a day and a half) without eating anything. I only tasted a cold katete from maybe Oshakati cells on Friday, June 26, at around 10h00 when they released me saying there was no evidence, go home!* TO the author of the letter titled ‘Caprivi Is The Poorest Region In Namibia’. His text implies we are the most neglected. First, the region is rich in (renewable) natural resources and second a lot has happened for the region to appreciate (not blindly) the Swapo Government. Sorry for him we are not all as prejudiced. To mention a few developments, the college campus, two new schools and two clinics in town only, a beautiful open market place, plus the EPZ. There are more important things we need here but denying what has been done is outrageous. Service Please
* WHY can’t Ongwediva Shoprite cut their bread and put it on the shelves? Now the customers must do it themselves. It’s very frustrating.* MTC you say we get free minutes on the Connect contracts yet we pay far more then the contract amount every month, while we still have free minutes left. How does your system work? Should the free minutes not be consumed first? * ‘YOUR account balance is N$3,76, 92 free SMSes’. This was my credit status yet I could not call nor send an SMS. Would MTC tell me why not?* POOR service at Hi-Fi Corporation. Please change!ACC Alert
* WELL done to Ali Akan and the boss of Ramblers Football Club for calling a spade a spade. Hope the ACC will come to the NFA offices and investigate.Health Matters
* CAN the Minister of Health clarify the issue of HIV in the Caprivi Region. We hear it’s 80 per cent positive and we don’t have a clinic at Malengalenga village. * ALL people in the meningitis outbreak areas should be immunised. [Health Minister] Dr [Richard] Kamwi please help Ohangwena region. The first suspected case was reported on the May 23 2009 but nobody said anything, only now that it has claimed the lives of our two innocent children. Please, do something before we lose more lives.Service Please
* WATCH out for KFC Katutura. I bought eight pieces, only to find out at home that they put in only six pieces. Just open your pack before you drive out at the drive-through area. It happened on Sunday afternoon (July 12).
