* THE bad service delivery in this country comes from the fact that people do not complain about it. We need a forum where we can complain and even boycott those who take us for a ride.
Food For Thought* WHY do fewer than one million voters need two days to vote? Is it not to create room for irregularities?- Very disappointing!* THE kleptocratic elite of our Government together with the Chinese economic colonisation of Namibia (and Africa as such) is a recipe for disaster. Cry the beloved country!ShalliLieutenant General Martin Shalli* I LIKE the way Lieutenant-General Martin Shalli responded to the media that, ‘The case (of the so-called serious irregularities) is being investigated and I don’t want to interfere with the investigations’. That shows that the man is honest, brave, fearless and principled. That is a kind of leader we need unlike those who try to shoot the messenger, insult and go on strikes or protests to block the investigations against them.* GENERAL Martin Shalli we the civilian population believe in your innocence. We know you will stand strong in these testing times. Our prayers will be for you all the time.* IT is a big shock for the Namibian nation and Africa to hear about the suspension of the NDF general, a man who defended Namibia against South African troops and won a highly commended in DRC and Kavango and Caprivi breaking up fighting.- Philip Nkunga* SWAPO, are you guys serious with the GRN? Suspending the Chief of Defence? Are you sure? I hope it won’t take you long to reinstate him as it happened to Matheus Shikongo.* IF the suspended Chief of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), Lieutenant-General Martin Shalli, is ‘only suspected of ‘mere irregularities’, the wrongdoings (compared) to a simple traffic offence’ as per the words quoted from Minister of Presidential Affairs, Albert Kawana, then why was he abruptly given ‘special leave’? I am shocked whether that was genuinely a priority advised by the Security Commission or it is a plot by a bunch of a ‘witch-hunting think tank (members)’. Past mistakes were withdrawn e.g. the Mayor of the City of Windhoek, Matheus Shikongo (and three councillors) and TransNamib CEO, Titus Haimbili, was reinstated. Worse still, the sanction-ridden Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, the ICC ‘wanted’ Omar Hassan Al-Bashir of Sudan and some drug-driven Angolans are all welcome and cannot be ‘touched’ in Namibia. The Shalli matter lacks consistency and risks putting the national security in doubt.- Steven Mvula* GENERAL Shalli suspended? It is either the beginning of the end or the end of the beginning. * COMRADE Shalli is suspended, for whatever reason, why? General don’t give up, we love you, we salute you, respect you forever. The Namibian nation will never forget you. What you have done will never be forgotten.- Kafamba, Windhoek* I DON’T condone any corruption at all. But why the witch-hunt on General Shalli alone?Bouquets And BrickbatsPaulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses* CONGRATS Hitman for retaining your belt. But you did not give us what we expected. – Kandeka* THUMBS up to the Hitman for retaining his title (WBA) and making us proud as a nation. You showed the Japanese Shimada that you are a real champion. Then my advance to Hitman is that he must improve his left hook. In fact his opponents are surviving on that side when they escape the very dangerous right hand punch. Shimada was not a challenger he just took chances. In fact his tactics of pushing and holding Hitman failed him .* THUMBS up to NBC-TV for showing us the Hitman fight live. Thank you and continue like that it has made us happy and we will continue paying our TV licence. Thank you* HAVING now seen the same documentary 6 (six) times in 10 days and a French language opera on NBC TV, I ask with tears in my eyes: who is in charge there?* A BIG thank you to NBC for bringing us the late night broadcast of Aljazeera. Can somebody please tell us what the Arabic word Aljazeera means?* TO KFC Tal Street, I just want to thank Brunhilda for her excellent service, keep it up. Hope your managers see this.- Vernon* I WANT to thank Henties Bay Police constables Hannes Goagoseb, Tjiepo, Veldskoen and Katanka for their quick response on a case reported last weekend. We are proud to have people like you in the force. Keep it up. With you Henties is safe.- Iliana* I APPLAUD the unions for standing up against the City of Windhoek. Can the unions also look at the issue of the recent auctions of erven whereby the people were cheated with those ridiculous prices of erven. Taapopi and Shikongo should go.* NAMDEB laid off about 2 000 jobs. Now it made profits to pay dividends. Whose faces are they buying? * NHE, in the past you efficiently provided us homeowners with account statements. What happened, now we don’t receive any? Please improve!* ON Thursday, July 23, at around 08h00 I visited Woman and Child Protection in Windhoek to my surprise l saw a male officer insulting a female officer as he was confronted for some wrongdoing. He even said ‘he fought for this country and where was the female officer, maybe siding with Boere’. He was very arrogant. If female officers are abused, what about us who came to report gender violence? I was shocked and just went back without reporting my abusive partner. Please investigate.- IG * DEAR Editor, please check page 20 of the Weekender ‘the solution in … July 24 2008! Please let’s progress in 2009 and be professional. This is atrocious in the leading Namibian daily.* GWEN Lister seems to have a good idea that the spy bill is unconstitutional. Madam please challenge it via the court. I wish you a resounding victory. Long live.* ONE Africa TV started off with a bang, sidelining NBC to a mere spectator, but now it has simply become a copy and paste television station. – Nello ThimotheusPolitics* WHILE the Polytechnic of Namibia has one of the Student Regulations, SR. 2. 3, which states that, ‘No political party meetings shall be held on campus’, The Polytechnic’s SRC President, Medusalem Shilongo (0812125767), is circulating an invitation SMS message, that says, ‘There will be a Polytechnic Swapo Party Youth Leaque (SPYL) branch conference on Wednesday the 29 July 2009 at 11h30 in room 210 lecture building. Please come and ensure and witness the change needed. Students are strongly advised to come and participate. Also pass on the message!’. Has the Polytechnic management lapsed the cited SR or is it a strategy that is favouring Swapo Party/SPYL at the expense of others? Who is cheating who?* ARMAS Amukwiyu must be ashamed of himself when he told Swapo supporters not to buy from Onambango store and Holiday Inn, because the owners are [allegedly] not Swapo supporters. Sir what about Shoprite, Pep Stores and others. I think sir you are violating the Constitution and you do not qualify to talk on behalf of someone else. We are tired of cheap politics.* WAS Amukwiyu looking for attention when he made his remarks or not? Just because he is earning money on a monthly basis he now wants to dictate to people where they should and should not buy. He should know that people do not choose a store based on an ethnic background, colour or political affiliation of the owner but by their economic status. Next time you should choose constructive remarks and not those undermining our intelligence. In And From The RegionsExposure at an expo* PLEASE Governor Boois, we also need a trade expo in the south. That’s how development starts. A trade expo at Keetmans or Karasburg is how we will attract new investors to our region and even for the 2010 World Cup. We are nearer to South africa.- Proudly Keetmanshoop * IF our Government is truly pro-poor, please consider erecting orphanages in regions with growing numbers of street kids. Otherwise they either grow up to be merciless criminals or die miserably of natural causes or ritual killers. Come around our taxi ranks, fuelling stations and hospitals in Caprivi and Kavango you will see them begging, in a way exposing themselves to all sorts of danger. I believe their help is affordable.* SHAME on Outapi town which doesn’t have a primary school. Kids are travelling from town to villages for schools.* PLEASE Ministry of Health, pregnant women at Outapi Hospital are living in the open where they cook, taking baths etc. You can imagine. Please do something or anybody who can help please.* SMOKING dagga is on the increase at Usakos. Police please wake up especially during sports events. Older men smoking with young ones during halftime and so on. People have money to buy dagga but some of those do not even have a house or a place to call their own. – Concerned* IS this fair to the nation? During public service hours some civil servants embark with Government cars on shopping adventures, while we as taxpayers demand service from them. ACC please help? We taxpayers from Lüderitz invite you!* DECENTRALISATION is a good idea but my regional governor in the North is illiterate and cannot even type his name on computer. Yet he will manage millions of dollar of taxpayers’ money?- KamatiGravel roads welcome too* CAN’T the Government see the need to construct even gravel roads if not tarred roads to various scattered health centres within the country? Especially those that are deep in rural areas just to make easy access to these centres, especially during rainy season. We need a gravel road to Omuthitugonyama clinic, Omusati Region!* WE are the concerned residents of Outjo (Blikkiesdorp). We would like to know to from the Government are the Government workers allowed to live in the Blikkiesdorp while they have Government house allowances? – Very concernedIn The Bag* WHOEVER said the Policeman should be ashamed for searching the school bag of a young boy, that person must be the one to feel ashamed. Because he doesn’t know the various criteria the Police should use to maintain law and order. Shame on you.Health Matters* I UNDERSTAND boxers undergo tests for hepatitis B and HIV among other tests. However, the test results for hepatitis B are disclosed. What happens to those who test positive for HIV? I wonder whether it is even appropriate to make any of the results public at all! – Joe Sasa* RESPONSES from the MoHSS are appreciated, but they must also respond on concerns raised about the mental hospital in Windhoek. They must not ignore the facts.* WHY is Otjiwarongo not featuring on the weather forecast? Are we not part of the country?- LucasRunning The Show* EVERY GRN project involving millions must pass the ACC scrutiny test before the money is cleared to get into the hands of the project developer.* HELLO Namibian people, can someone tell us who is responsible for buying military equipment? Is it the NDF, Minister of Defence or Permanent Secretary of the Ministry. * IT is not surprising to read in the media that the Government was duped into signing an agreement they do not understand. This is a sign of incompetence on the part of the Government. The minister/s involved in negotiating such an agreement should do the right thing – resign with immediate effect. On the other hand, this could also a tactful agreement – made to rob the state of the funds, send it to China and return it back to Namibia into the pocket/s of (a) person/s responsible. That is more than just mere corruption – that is treason of the highest order.City Fathers Please …Get in line taxis!* CITY Police, please we need order at the Wernhil taxi rank. I am even afraid to get a taxi there because some three guys came close to asking if I wanted to go to Khomasdal and took my phone without me noticing. At least put a traffic officer there to keep the place in order, please.- Liz* EVEN though Government, big business and senior Govt officials are the city’s worst debtors, it’s the small business, poor people, ordinary struggling workers who get water cuts. What a joke!* CAN we please shake hands and officially end our ‘good relations’ with China? The time has come.General* I SAW a beautiful new NDF bus the other day. If bought from the now popular populous country it won’t outlast current municipal buses. The trains did not. Thank you if sponsored.- Boy* WHY are all men fully dressed, but the women half-naked in videos?* ELCRN Church Council, why don’t you transfer some pastors who have spent more than five years in one congregation or parish, as it was the case in the past! Some pastors are now too relaxed and familiar.* WILL some shoe factory out there make size 9 shoes for women? Not all of us can fit in size 8.* THE Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust should be disbanded because no one can afford the fish prices.Lost And Found* MR CY Ketjijere contact 081-379-3247. I found your driving licence and ID card.* THANK you for leaving my keys at the Police at Katutura hospital.- Julia* IF anyone has come across a black bag containing the documents of Schwarz Susanna, please contact me on 081-280-9262* AG Garcia Vargas – Peru National Documents found. Contact 081-285-3660.ACC Alert* ACC, when are you coming to perform your duty at the Department of Prisons, we are suffocating here!* PLEASE ACC, investigate the loaning procedures at IOL, because mostly teachers enrolled are (allegedly) financially milked and not educationally enabled to complete their studies. * TAXIS were painted with colour stripes instructed by the chairperson of Nabta. We paid N$500 for each taxi. Now we want to know where our money goes. We want a refund or they must remove their stripes as Natis does not want them. Mr Paulus Noa help us.
