Small Moments – Part 2

Not all time is the same.

There is normal time measured with watches, clocks and calendars.

This is called chronos time. But there is also time measured by opportunities and moments, which is called kairos time. When you are actively putting in effort to attain something, then you should make use of chronos time to be ready for that kairos moment because therein lies opportunities of great advancement.

The point of this tip is to stress one clear point: it is highly detrimental to yourself to rely on chronos time to produce a kairos moment. What do I mean by this? I am referring to those who wait for a significant calendar event or date to produce these moments.

You cannot wait for New Year’s Day or a birthday to initiate or implement critical steps towards the things you want to do. Not only is this lazy, but it is also highly impractical. Understanding kairos will tell you two things. Firstly, that some actions are ripe for a particular point in time only. This is important to know. You should not miss the window that occurs when you get a certain urge to do something, no matter how small it seems.

We are to respect the uniqueness of that moment and respond to it because doing the same thing at another time that is more convenient to you may not yield the same outcome. Secondly, understanding kairos will teach you that any given point in time has huge potential in itself. A random date and time such as 3 June is as packed with potential as any huge milestone dates such as 1 January or your birthday. Let us respect and respond to kairos moments when you get the privilege to recognise one.
