Skorpion sends Mun a stinging reply

THE management of Skorpion Zinc Mine has rejected a statement by the Mineworkers Union of Namibia’s local branch as “childish and unfounded”.

In a statement last week, the union expressed concern over an allegedly increasing number of foreigners, and appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs to investigate the issuing of work permits. Hitting back, Skorpion’s Communications Manager, Usi //Hoebeb, accused the union of engaging the media to “falsely inflame emotion amongst its membership”.He said the union had done this deliberately instead of using the channels agreed upon in its recognition agreement with the mine.//Hoebeb appealed to the union to start displaying the maturity required of union leaders representing the interests of members.”The Branch Executive Committee of the MUN’s continued disregard for the rules and regulations remains an issue of concern and indeed an embarrassment to both Skorpion Zinc and the Namibian nation,” //Hoebeb said.Hitting back, Skorpion’s Communications Manager, Usi //Hoebeb, accused the union of engaging the media to “falsely inflame emotion amongst its membership”.He said the union had done this deliberately instead of using the channels agreed upon in its recognition agreement with the mine.//Hoebeb appealed to the union to start displaying the maturity required of union leaders representing the interests of members.”The Branch Executive Committee of the MUN’s continued disregard for the rules and regulations remains an issue of concern and indeed an embarrassment to both Skorpion Zinc and the Namibian nation,” //Hoebeb said.
