Six suspects have been arrested following a mob attack that resulted in the death of an unidentified man in the Oshakati West constituency of the Oshana region.
According to police reports, the incident occurred along a gravel road leading to the municipal graveyard near Othingo village on Friday night at around 23h00.
It is alleged that a group of villagers attacked the victim using fresh palm branches, camel thorn branches, as well as their fists and open hands.
“During the assault, the victim’s clothes were reportedly torn off, leaving him completely naked,” the police say.
The police say the mob is believed to have acted on suspicions that the deceased had been involved in housebreaking incidents in the area.
The police add that a second victim, a man (28), was also assaulted during the incident after being mistakenly identified as a suspect.
He too was stripped during the attack.
The police say the man had at the time been visiting his girlfriend nearby and was not connected to the alleged crimes.
The second victim was rushed to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, where he remains admitted in a stable condition.
The deceased has not yet been identified, as police are still in the process of locating his next of kin.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
