Singapore keen on Walvis harbour and salt refinery

DURING his stopover in Namibia, Singapore’s President Sellaphan Rama Nathan and a Singaporean business delegation visited Walvis Bay and showed a keen interest in NamPort and the local salt refinery.

NamPort Marketing Manager Jerome Mouton said although business prospects with Singapore relating to shipping were in the pipeline, no particulars were given. “Besides discussing co-operation between us and the Singaporean ports, Nathan was also particularly interested in bunkering services,” Mouton told The Namibian.”At the same time, we also realised how much we will be able to learn from Singapore with regards to trans-shipment and how to enhance our ability to become a hub for the region.”While President Nathan was given a tour of the port, a Singaporean delegation paid a visit to the Walvis Bay Salt Refiners where they were given an overview of the operations, according to Operations Manager Stephan Anderson.”No business in particular was discussed seeing that the delegation was only ßon a fact-finding mission to southern Africa,” he said.”Besides discussing co-operation between us and the Singaporean ports, Nathan was also particularly interested in bunkering services,” Mouton told The Namibian.”At the same time, we also realised how much we will be able to learn from Singapore with regards to trans-shipment and how to enhance our ability to become a hub for the region.”While President Nathan was given a tour of the port, a Singaporean delegation paid a visit to the Walvis Bay Salt Refiners where they were given an overview of the operations, according to Operations Manager Stephan Anderson.”No business in particular was discussed seeing that the delegation was only ßon a fact-finding mission to southern Africa,” he said.
