Shiyuka calls it quits at last

FORMER Brave Warriors defender Amos Shiyuka will tomorrow become only the second player in Namibia’s football history to have a testimonial match in his honour, after the legendary Ricardo Mannetti late last year.

The defensive stalwart will run onto the famous Independence Stadium turf for the last time to say farewell to many of his fans, especially the diehard Civics supporters. Kick-off is at 14h00.Shiyuka, who has been going through the national team ranks from the under-17 age level, will hang up his boots at the age of 29, after he has been suffering from nagging knee and ankle injuries. His send-off will be celebrated in style, as Shiyuka will be playing alongside former Namibian football greats such as former Tigers goal-scoring machine Foresta Nikodemus, former sprinting ace Frank Fredericks, while current Warriors assistant coach Brian Isaacks will be the mentor for the day. Also in the Shiyuka Invitational line-up will be former Warriors goal minder Ronnie Kanalelo, who will be stationed between the posts, while former Warriors and Civics goalie Danzyl Bbruwer will deputise him.Warriors midfield genius Lolo Goraseb, former Civics and Warriors defensive hardman Tiger Goagoseb and possibly the most prolific striker for the Warriors in his day, Gerros Witbeen, will also form the core of the team.Mannetti will be the man who will call the shots in the centre of the park, and will be ably assisted by the adventurous former Civics and Warriors midfield general Congo Hindjou. There will be several other prominent players in the Shiyuka side, but they will be required to compete against a formidable opposition led by former Bafana Bafana midfield kingpin Doctor Khumalo.Khumalo, former Leeds United and Bafana Bafana great Lucas Radebe, Linda Buthelezi, David Nyathi, Mark Fish and Jabu Pule will form the opposition. An electrifying music performance by local artists will liven up and conclude the business on the day to mark the departure of one of the most disciplined and committed players in the domestic game.Kick-off is at 14h00.Shiyuka, who has been going through the national team ranks from the under-17 age level, will hang up his boots at the age of 29, after he has been suffering from nagging knee and ankle injuries. An electrifying music performance by local artists will liven up and conclude the business on the day to mark the departure of one of the most disciplined and committed players in the domestic game.
